Primary Configuration Essentially this is the Sean Lang CN9-A strapped into the D body. Sadly it's missing one missile rack and you really do notice that extra SRM6 being gone but it's the most efficient build I could find. Even though this mech comes with a 300 XL I took it out and put in a 275 XL. I used the extra room for a little more armor and BAP. If you want more speed see Alternate Configuration A. Alternate Configuration A This one uses the 300 XL that comes with the mech and removes the BAP from the above to crank up the speed a little bit but otherwise it carries the same payload.
This is probably the best D loadout I've ever used. The mech itself is a piece of shit but at least you have found a way to do something with it!
I like this build in theory, if only I could hit something with an AC/2. I don't understand what my issue is with it, I don't have trouble hitting targets with any other ballistic weapon in the game..oh well. In the future I will have to make a serious effort in overcoming this defficiency. This is a great harasser I'm sure. Myth.
Hey I was doing some tinkering in Mechlab before i actually bought all the items I needed and was wondering if I could Take advantage of you cn9-d expertise...this is a variant of your c9-d Grimm, I added an ac/2, dropped the XL engine to a 245 and reduced the armour to fit the extra ac/2
Your link to the mechlab was broken so I took the liberty of doing some modifications to the build based on your specs. You can remove a ton of SRM ammo if you find you aren't using that extra 100 rounds and place it into AC2 ammo or vice versa. Whatever you use most of but with missiles having taken a lot of nerf in the last 48 hours I would shy away from using them as your main closing weapon and switch to something else. A build like this would be extremely easy to manage your weapon systems between three groups; long range (both your AC2), Medium Range (both your MLas) and the Holy Shit I Need More Powah Range (both your SRM6). The problem is that it doesn't specialize in any one particular range/task and so your damage output won't be the max that you could expect. It's more of an all purpose build. 2x AC/2 give you amazing range to plink plink away at the enemy but you don't give you a lot of stopping power. What is your playstyle and I will be able to give you a more defined approach to your weapon systems.
At the moment I tend to harass from range and then if I get into a CQC situation I use the missiles like a shot gun, but I try to stay at range roaming behind the larger mechs
You can always try something like this... You lose your mid range punch though and have to downgrade your SRMs from 6 packs to 4 packs. Personally I would try the jack of all trades one with the dual AC/2 before building something like this to see what works best. This would increase your 2000m punch with 2x AC/2 as well as your 1300m punch with the ER Large but you have NO mid to short range hit with just SRM4s and would essentially fire them only to scare off opponents; however that being said nobody is scared of missiles these days because they are currently locked in "Joke Mode"
CN9-D Ok so this is my version of the same weapon load out. It uses all hardpoints, has max armor and still runs pretty fast with the stock engine. This one also includes the AMS system for a little extra support and chasing safety. This could obviously removed for more ammo if u feel the need but i rarely run out. 225 ammo for the ac/2 is just way overkill imo, especially when the SRM's are your actual best damage output. with this build i can accomplish most anything i want to aside from a straight up brawl. i've tried probably 20 different builds with this guy and in the end this one always wins out with the over-all potential.
I find this mech doesn't do well with the AC2, unless you snipe with it first. it's a better brawler, once the AC2 goes down. 4-5 stars.
ya when this build was started the SRMs werent as powerful as they are now. As much damage was needed imo so hence the a/c 2. NTM, the bonus exp for assists just for tapping people across the map. The CN9-D just isnt that variable in its weapon load out and still keep good dps. Fortunately the SRM buff has increased the utility of this chassis by a little bit...but even then, the CN9-A still beats the hell out of it. Really...it just comes down to making something useful out of an otherwise crap mech.
Gnéééé?? I love all of them but CN9-D is my favourite centurion chassis. And even if some days I'm silly enough to prefer another variant, I'd definitely never call it crap. About AC/2, I have 2 AC/2s on mine and it's imho a great weapon on this mech. Precisely because of its speed: you're always (kind of) in the right position, ready to support your teammates as soon as they engage. Though I'm not a fan of AC/2 and SRMs on the same build.
I never liked the AC/2 SRM combo myself either because of the heat on some maps, but to call the D a "crap mech" is a bit much. Everyone has different play styles when it comes to MWO and if your build isn't working then more than likely you aren't using the mech to its full potential, like putting a tiny engine in the D. If I can get 900+ damage out of a "crap mech" then I'd say theres a serious glitch in the game.
well imo it is crap. everything it does others do better. much better. Dont get me wrong i still like this mech better than others and was my first centurion i ever purchased which led to me mastering all of them. I've just tried every build i can think of on this guy and always like my other mechs better. I want to like the CN9-D but i just dont. Not worth his high c-bills.
LOL guys, this isn't a competitive meta build. I used this specific loadout to get in, touch everything I could, kill what I could, master it and get out. End of story.
Some of you guys need to look at more than just weapon hard points. People say this mech is shit and I just laugh- Well when you look at the obvious I guess I can see that. 2 ballistic hard points in the arm, but you can barely fit 2 AC/2s but then I don't have the room for ammo or I can't use my SRMs in a brawl because of my low cooling efficiency. Only 2 missile hard points while the A has 3 and 2 energy slots in the CT just like the rest of the Cents. So yea why pick the D when the AL and A look better? The D's greatest weapon isn't even a hardpoint, IT IS IT'S ENGINE SIZE. This mech has the potential to go 139 kph with more armor and firepower than any light mech. Even at 112kph you'll be faster than most mechs on the battlefield. Speed is the D's deadliest weapon, because when you can turn faster(even more so with the torso twist buff), run faster, stop faster, and change directions faster, and get behind them faster. You WILL cause a lot of damage even with puny weapons like MG's
After having run a LOT (over 50)of matches with this build, I have changed my mind. It seems the AC2 is, by design, a harassment cannon that can do some good damage. It really rocks the cockpit of their mech, and some can't aim properly while being peppered. It is also fun against lights, if you can track them with the cannon. I have come to like the AC2 on the Centurion, but I will prefer the UAC5 if I couldn't run such a large engine. like the 9A.
