    Blagg.... Flamers in arms = point at head, blind and nail with AC20 rounds while they try to get their vision clear/handle the heat. Its what I do with SRM boat Adders when I run out of ammo ... or what an irritating JM6 was doing to me two nights ago. Unfortunately for him I'm decently experienced at combatting flamers as I use them, my TBR has very good reduction capability and two people came to my help as I was 3 vs 1 in a lava trench. o_O

    Was in the depth of a battle so no ss but I was delighted to meet a detached K2 with just an ERLL and AMS last night... the pilots name will remain anonymous but it fits with all the new players I'm seeing since the last weekend that seem semi clueless about the game.

    I think that at the ranges the weapons work, the Battlemaster can only fire at the head of enemy mechs, and not to all them :phear:

    Well, technically you can slow-roast another weaponless battlemaster, or maybe a Piggy Head without arms.

    It works even with only one flamer.

    2 days ago we had a league drop. One of our two remaining Mechs was an armless (thus almost weaponless) Adder. The enemy had one crit Raven and a zombified Stalker. Although it took it's time and some overheating (Caustic), the Adder managed to kill the Stalker. Minutes later, the Raven kept avoiding our last members, he fininshed off said enemy... again only using his flamer....

    Flamers are essentially energy versions of the MG. Short range, keep pressed down and increased crit chance. The MG deals more damage and doesn't cost heat or a precious easy-to-fill-with-a-ML-instead Energy hardpoint though. If the flamer had a real impact on enemy heat or did more damage it could be a viable addition but for now it has always been the worst energy weapon.

    Yes but it has a valid tactical use that most people ignore.... just aim it at the enemies head and blind them. I've kept people at the point where they can't fire enough weapons to be meaningful and those they do fire are inaccurate repeatedly. The only reason its less effective than it could be currently is clan double heat sinks and ballistic boating. That said I only use 1...

    Allright, I'm going to try to make a viable flamer build with crits and stuff then, :D Maybe on the BJ-Arrow?

    Lol no as the Arrow as too big a profile imo so its easy to hit even when mostly blinded. Interested to see if you can get it working though. ;)

    Point is I use the flamer in coordination with other players as its one of those weapons that are effective when used in a particular specific - if you notice when I mention them on my quad SRM 6 Adder I always say ... I pair up with a heavy and blind them so that the other party can easily kill them. ;)

    I've made a vindicator in the end.
    6xMG makes the crit aspect of the flamer relatively useless (which is partly the reason I'm warming up to it (pun sorta intended)). 1t just for superclose range vision harass and heating up yourself more then the enemy mech isn't worth it on its own. And I wanted to try out the new mechs in smurfy.

    Photo went a bit wonky as its having trouble taking photo's since the new monitor (moves everything around madly... no idea why) but just look at the speed bar......

    Now if I can just work out why it seems to be trying to take the photo's in a much lower res or screensize???

    I rode with a lovely DDC last night with two LRM15's and an ERPPC. Must have been new because he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with the PPC and he kept firing missles at less than 180m. He also spent about half the time shut down due to heat (Tourmaline). You'd think with that light a weapon loadout he'd have been able to pack a couple of heat sinks for the trip.

    Take enileph's build, single heatsinks, no extra heatsinks, no endosteel, bump it to a std360, add a BAP and you are at 100 tons, ERPPC + 2x LRM15 and overheat in 7 seconds according to smurphy... faster on tourmaline
