Saving up for one of the two. Both will be for a different Battlemaster build.

    XL400 would be for this:

Adv. Target Decay would be for this:

    Which?

Which do you think you'll use more ? You know best, and how then should anyone give you better advice ?
However I would probably go for the module. You can use it in more than 1 Mech. The XL400 on the other hand is pretty specialized, and if your Mech doesn't turn out the way you expect you'll have blown out a lot of cash.

If you got an XL400 already (maybe from the Boar's Head?) then definitely go for XL400.Builds!

The big problem I see is that they're trying to accomplish two very different things, so they're hard to compare.

I would be leery of fielding 85 tons of 'mech for 50 LRMs, considering you can pull a build like that off with a CPLT (but less backup weapons and armor, obviously). The catapult would have 100 pts less armor, no defensive weapons, 1 ton less ammo, and 3 fewer DHS. However, it would be 20 tons lighter, have jump capacity, and have a little bit more speed.

Go for the LRM boat. Target Decay is much more useful on any mech.

The XL 400 build doesn't have enough firepower to make up for it's speed. Especially when going against other assault mechs.

What Vergere said. Moreover, not only is the XL400 build posted fairly underpowered, the XL 400 is only usable in a couple mechs, and, in my opinion, the builds which use it lose so much weight they aren't really worth it...

The Target Decay is usable (read; required) in every LRM build and can be quite useful for Streaks when those pesky lil buggers slip behind you too long. In slow assaults with SSRMs, it's quite nice to have 3.5 seconds to keep target lock.

I absolutely agree. I play a lot with SSRM and LRMs - and Advanced Target Decay is definitly worth it.

Generally i agree with Vergere and Chatt about the XL400. I thought, if someone already has the Boar's Head with the XL400 in his Mechbay, he might use that Engine better on the Battlemaster than in the Boar's Head. If you don't own the XL400, you should definitely go for cheaper and more "common" Engine, which you can use in other Mechs as well. E.g. the XL350

With an XL400 you can do very beatiful builds on the BLR-1G:

Personally i like the last one very much. Alphabeam the Triple LLas until your Heatlevel is high, then switch to Chainfire.

I actually powered through a bunch of drops last night and got the Module, I agree that it would be more useful to have in the long-run.

Maybe I'll just get the Boar's Head :S

    Thanks guys!
