Yeah, on a 4 LPL just go button 1 and 2, wait whole duration for the first 2 (helps aiming) and fire second group, then cover, it's slightly higher then 0,5s so it will avoid heat penalty but still you won't lower the DPS too much as the duration is 0.67s if I remember correctly.

If you landed 44 damage on the same component that is going to hurt any mech in a bad way, better saving the arm after.

Yeah, I play it with all four lasers in two weapon groups which are both on chainfire. The macro starts one chainfire going, then 60ms later starts the other one. It all synchs up with the weapon cooldown such that you have multiple LPLs firing continually for as long as you hold the trigger down.

You do need to watch out for enemies backtracking the beam to you, but I find that not happening too much in CW matches. In the meantime, keeping an enemy's screen flashing red with the 'you're taking damage' warning for a long time seems to scare folks and rattle them, particularly as they're trying to get in position to shoot the gate generators. Instead of opening the gate, they often take cover or try to shoot at me, which is fine - that's more seconds ticking off the clock.

I basically use it like a laser version of those mechs that boat lots of LRM5's to keep opponent's screens constantly shaking. It does decent damage while also making it harder for the pilot to respond as effectively.

Well, the video sold it, it looked stupid fun. I didn't screenshot my first game, which net me over 600 damage on Caustic Valley, but this is my third match, on Terra Therma, no less. Gotta say, I'm falling in love.

It plays like my Dragon in some sense; gotta protect that arm, and with NO backups it's, well...others have already said it. It's really hot, so those times where I'm "brawling", I have my thumb on chain fire and save the 2+2 for sniping and pulling the legs off lights.

Yeah.. the right arm is definitely a weakness. It's interesting how tough these mechs are generally, I have the impression that they can take much more damage than Griffins which feel like glass cannons but WVRs...
now if you are a good pilot, not like me, and you can protect that right arm, damage in the 1100 region is possible with this build, I have seen it

this build convinced me to buy a wolverine... it was worth it. best sniper from cover i have piloted so far. i am a happy camper.
i'm running it with 3DHS XL255 and 4 lpl's (cut away the armor on shield arm and on legs)

edit; adapted my rating to 4 stars, even with chainfire and upgrades it remains running way to hot way to fast. it douse remain a potent sniper/ range build but it sucks at brawling

another interesting variant, don't forget you get half bonus for MLAS too, and the bonus is still huge :)

you can even use the big engine cap for a super-fast medium skirmisher

I swear by the 2LPL 3ML build. Whilst the 3LPL and 4LPL versions can be very dangerous when they catch you unaware, they (and especially the latter) run way too hot to hold out once they get in a brawl.

I lured a 4LPL to attack my AC20 hunchie yesterday: torso protection until enemy overheat then finish the job. I never even broke a sweat. :troll:

he should have gone for the legs tho, this things loves vaporizing them :D

I will probably end up running the mech like this or

The 4 LPL versions look really hot and slow for 1 LPL more, yet having 2 seems a bit of a waste with these quirks.

In practice, countering these is a lot like countering L3mming2's 4xUAC5 King Crab: You have to press them, get close, and force them to heat up. That said, a player who's used to sniper mechs like the RVN-3L will be better about staying out of the brawl and sniping for lots of damage, making them a serious threat. The guy who got lured in to fight the HBK is the perfect example...you get distance if you want to use the 4 LPL version. As you remove each LPL, you can get in closer.

I still want to try the 4 LPL version when I get my 6K (I snipe a lot anyway, and I'm kinda a dick ;) ), but may downgrade it by a laser later just for more heat dissipation.

if u presure my daka crab till it gets heat problems u do have to consider that its generating only 1 heat for 5 damage so its a very good ratio (if u dont count machineguns) i think uac5's (and ac5's) are the most heat vs damage efficient weapons in game.

the worst night mare for my crab is my BJ-1X "The Ridge King" build its a load faster has a high alpha (52) and high weapon hard points. it has a short (around 0.8s) laser burn time and good range. against that the king crab can (if he knew where it would pop out) only get 3 ore 4 hits in (20 damage) and then the bj-1X can doge the rest and relocate and alpha again. there is realy noting a dps mech with less mobillety no big alpha and "slow" moving bullets can do against that..
in short if u pit my crab vs my BJ-1X the bj will almost always win..

The worse thing about 4LPL build after all is the speed. This mech, given the lack of JJs too (the 3 LPL version would be so great with at least 1 JJ), needs to reposition often, the LPL are superior only if you fire around max range.

If I were to run the 4LPL I'd go with @epikt's version.

Welp, the party had to end eventually. Quirks are being changed next week - the pulse laser quirks are being replaced with LL ones. :-(

    3/5,
Re-rating not because the build is bad, but because the quirks that make it possible are being removed soon.
