So my new worst/most embarassing... I dropped with a fellow UMAD applicant the other night after being away from the game for at least two months. I was playing spotter for him, and he warns me away from a direwolf that just jumped under a team mates ECM. I'm like ok, let me take care of this BJ though, and I round the corner of a building to come face to face with said Dire Wolf. Needless to say I didn't last long. Stupid move Ski. Stupid, stupid move. Personal glory over good tactics rarely wins you more than a face full of PPC
Direwolf is certainly a tough mech to face. Dual PPC + Dual guass seems to be the way to run this thing.
The "Valar Morghulis", "Lightsaber", and "Ghost Walker" builds are also popular, and nasty to go up against in a fight. I actually run the Ritz (2PPC 2 Gauss), Valar, and Alpha builds on my three variants, all of which work well.
Ugh...I knew I was gonna do this. I play one two separate computers, and have exclusively played my DWF-A (with the Ghost Walker setup) on my laptop. But this morning, I loaded it up on my desktop for a couple rounds. Went into battle, and was READY! Of course, I forgot that weapon groups don't save between computers. One alpha with 8 cERLLas and I was a goner We all had a laugh though.
It's a classic but always bring a smile on my face (well, not on the moment, but when I watch it again it's so funny). So I was with my dual gauss Jag on Canyon network, I was climbing the middle ramp and a teammate had spot a Phract on the other ridge. Easy shot: I load the gauss, zoom in, release the trigger... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9eHuhQ8a1A
Never done it that bad but managed to dual gauss a shadowhawk that jumped off a ledge to help me... luckily caught their arm only....
Can I apply for one for every member of my team? Took my Summoner out as an LRM Boat just to run it for the first time ever, and was doing very well with it...so I figured my team wasn't doing that poorly until the end of the game. Then I saw the scores...
In the worst deah ever category : That momment when you see your team fleeing like headless chicken when they see the first ennemy mech before you get in position, or when they want to rush the cap. And you're in a 100 ton giant robot that doesn't go over 50 km/h..... You're just simply abandonned, and killed by 10+ mechs shooting at you and your team will loose 2 minutes later. Just happenned to me.... 3 times in a row. I'm waiting for PGI to implement an IA for these bots Anybody knows a decent coms server to join to play during EU prime time ? I'm tired of this kind of teams.
Tonight I had the opportunity to switch my most embarassing death up to date (in cadet days: walking up to the top of a hill, finding red team, wanting to back of, hitting chat and not knowing how to close chat ...) for a new masterpiece: Out of ammo and hopping along with only one bright red leg left I stayed with my team in my Kitfox thinking to provide ecm cover. Instead I caused a teamkill for one of our stalkers - sorry man for getting under your foot! Yes, I did see him starting to reverse and I tried to change direction. But from a legged perspective even assaults move like squirrels...
Had a doozy of a PUGFail match on Terra Therma earlier. They are rushing mid, so as I autopilot to an entry, I teamchat the usual stuff: Don't stop in the doors, rush hard, etc. I look up at the map a second later, however, and see not one, not two, but all three lances (minus myself, who was in a slower mech) all piled up. Then, however, it begins...I see the first red smoke, and an artillery shot hits all over, followed by... Idiot Teammate: "WTF, you body blocked my artillery and it hit us all!" As I see this, I see a second plume of red smoke, and they all eat another arty. Moments later, a THIRD plume shows up, and these idiots eat a third arty...but something else happens. See, they're so hurt now that 3 or 4 of them die. And the name of their killer...is a teammate. Which means that, while I can't say for sure on Arty #2, that means that the 1st and 3rd arty shots were team damage. Things get worse from there though, as an enemy airstrike hits them (2 more dead), then the same teammate who killed our people with Arty #3 alphas...right into the back of the Dire Whale who's been in front of him the whole time, killing yet another teammate. I just gave up at that point...was lucky to break 300 damage, and by the time the match ended, we had 6 teamkills, and 10 players who didn't break 50 damage. With that, I called it quits for the night.
Okay. Okay. I can't QQ anymore. Because this... this is the worst I have ever heard. I'm sorry, so sorry, that you had to endure that. But I'm still going to laugh my ass off at it.
Another "awful team" game, 2 team kills this time, but I had an entire team of people who refused to fight. They spent the entire round running from the fight. I would've done more damage, but a Jenner found me (with 5 teammates watching) and just ran circles around me until I died. Not a single one fired at him, despite staring at the little bastard. Very aggravating round...9 people under 200 damage.
Hard to understand that artillery insanity. Not even convinced you can do that unintentionally. I will confess to dropping my own arty at my feet the other day after changing all my mouse commands but no one was hurt (including me).
Yesterday was like that for me except people moved in and were just all being headshot and dying without firing a shot by pop tarters so I could hardly fault them for 0-very low damage (how two particular poptarters knew where we were was interesting as we had eyes on them and they had no uav's up....). Lots others were being concentrated down as we had to push through choke points as we were then down numbers so had to attack. Managed 6 battles before quitting in frustration for the evening.
