Some nerfs are needed. Some buffs are needed. I understand this is the way of gaming, but at the same time the amount of nerfing in MWO compared to the amount of buffing is not evening out. Sure the PPC needed a bit of a nerf. And it feels about right to me right now. The ERPPC? not so much, its a ruined weapon. Machine gun was decent at best and then got nerfed when it didnt need it...cant claim to even be decent anymore. but its ok! cause SRMs got buffed to where they should have been in the first place. Theres more, but the general style has been to maybe fix 1 weapon and to completely ruin another in the process. I truly believe the best way to help balance any of these weapons is to fix the damn maps. Tell me one map that doesnt let you shoot across the whole damn level. These open world maps are just too damn easy for the old ppc/JJ combo. its no wonder the ERPPC and gauss were so popular. People didnt care which weapon it was, but what they NEEDED was a long range weapon to be able to compete even in pubs. You either had long range weaponry or stood behind some buddies hoping they lived long enough to let you get close and be useful. Maybe there was cover to slide around with, but across all maps there just isnt enough terrain suited for the brawlers and mid range fighters. The snipers have the advantage on every level. Thats not our fault, thats the game level design's fault and we just made the best of it. And because development fucked up, we're getting punished for it. Now the UAC is the beast weapon of the meta...think about this. Not too long ago, before the UAC buff, hell even now, the UAC is a controversial weapon at best. It's powerful, but only in the right hands. How many times have we come across in builds, people that just dont like a gun that isnt reliable? and now this sometimes reliable weapon is the best we have? Irony it seems, that the very weapon the new players hate the most, is now the actual power weapon...I actually laugh at this because they have created it. But again, just create some fucking maps that dont cater to long range snipers and the gauss/ppc combo and these weapons lose a lot of its luster. Aside from that, that will help encourage people to NOT use long range weapons. TL;DR The long range weapon in general is the area that needs fixing. Not the specific weapons themselves. The maps forced us to use these weapons and we really didnt have a choice if we actually wanted to compete.
Lol, you're a good guy, but this is where you're wrong. Dead fucking wrong. Check it... The thing is, the strength of a weapon should be based around utility and ease of use, or accessibility. To stymie the prevelence of really strong things, you limit the amount of them around, based on the difficulty of wielding the weapon properly, or by limiting it to the best (or worst players ala handicap). What UAC5 and ballistic spam does at the moment is supercede that difficulty to wield. We're talking about weapons that are macrod. So when you talk about a powerful weapon, that is macrod, there's a problem. Especially when you try and act like it's in "the right hands". It's not even in hand. It's in an automated key-bind. Yes, there are people that can run the firing cadence w/o a macro - good for them - that's how it should be for top players to use weps properly. GG close is just a paper-weighted spacebar away in current meta; for those reasons I troll those types of mechs up close in a COM-2D screen shake inducing chainfiring Streakmando. The current ballistic macro spam meta going around is the worst meta seen in MWO by far. By far. Much more damaging to the maturation (aka collective learning process) of the community at large. In fact, it takes huge shits on it. Sad, really. But w/e, yeah shit'll change. It should be 20% jam, if not that, then made unmacroable [mechanic change]. The melting meta spam currently is a fucking joke. It's a skilless disgrace. It's not hard to stare into a guy full tilt with a spacebar macro turning a corner and watching shit melt off of him. It takes as much skill as LRMs or a Streakcat. If any of you think I'm being overly critical or something, go find another post where I say something needs to be nerfed. You'll be looking for a while, so grab a Snickers. This though, this is an abomination. At this point I dunno what's making me question my faith in PGI more - their lack of a comprehensive approach to game balance, or the fact that they have morons like Helmer as community reps.
I agree 15% jamchance was too much of a buff. Minimum 20% and some new mechanics that wouldnt let Macro.user have a significant advantage. What's the logic of having a jamchance.handicap if you can go around it? It's like having the Alphafire Heat Penalty Rule but you can use some tricks to disable the Penalty by firing Alphas. If that's the case then completely drop these handicaps for all!
eh...nothing you say actually proves im wrong...but it doesnt really matter since you are actually agreeing with me...I'm one of the few that doesnt use macros and actually has the cadence of the UAC down pretty well. But thats the whole point. An overpowered weapon, and still people need a macro to make it useful to them. And thats the best we got right now...pretty fucking sad. People need a 3rd party program in order to properly use the best weapon in the game right now because they dont wanna take the time to get over that learning curve. But we cant really blame them...we weren't left very many options after they skull fucked the ERPPC and Gauss. Personally, Instead of the UAC, ive taken more to the LL as my primary weapon, aside from Mlasers and the occasional PPC. But my main point is that most all of these nerf/buffs could have been avoided if they had better map making skills.
I'm with Soy. The UAC macro boats are more cheese than any PPC/Gauss Sniper, 5x PPC Sniper or AC40 Jager ever was. It's just obnoxious. There are counter-attacks that can be made, but, it is pretty obnoxious to run into 4-mans or even 12-man premades now that are running 6 or more of these obnoxious Chainsaws... They took a a great build that was balanced and made it into the new One-Click-Wonder build. The more I play, the more obnoxious it becomes. This Ilya sale just made it overbearing. But, hey... I'm still having a blast playing either way. I just know that once every four or five games, I'll run into a 4-man of Ilyas and Atlas throwing about 10 AC/5 rounds per second... It happens, won't let it get me down.
