My mech-crush in this game is the dragon as it was back in the IS Pack in MW4. I don't know what it is about the dragon but I've recently bought the 5N back. I sold my Fang and Flame when I quit last year... With current clan mechs and meta the dragon seems more handicapped than ever but I keep coming back to her.... Even during the poptart craze I played it. Anyone else have a serious crush on an unpopular chassis despite handicapping themselves vs Meta Wolves? -dragon fanboi
My first proper heavy embarassingly and my 1N maintains a decent 3.06 KDR despite all its problems. Massive CT, no JJ, very low arms. A crippled mech on current maps like HPG. But .... 257 matches in my Quickdraw 5K... sadly 122 on my AS7-RS and before the stats were redone my Flame had a silly number of matches. Doesn't really fit your thread though as I'm surprised to say I've not used it since they archived the stats for achievements. Sadly my 5K was recently replaced by the Sparky which does the same job and is a medium so gets me into a solo queue match MUCH faster as its not competing with the 5 million Timberwolves, Summoners, Mad Dogs, JM6's etc. Just a fun mech all round that I love using. Oh... I do have a guilty pleasure in the Adder.
There's no particular Mech I would say I prefer over any other. But if I had to choose one from those already in-game it would be the Raven, oh and yes, I also enjoy drving the Adder. Back in MW4 my fav workhorse was the Uziel and Hellspawn before they got badyl nerfed and were then replaced by... you already guessed it: a Raven!
Yes and no, I have a thing for Quickdraws. They are struggling a bit but can perform still. But my main mechcrush was always the T-Wolf. And it is sweet, just wish they hadn't given it jumpjets.
My deep love for the Dragon was for most part due to the AC/2 being awesome and I admit I haven't played it in a while (not the -5N at least, I still play the -1N sometimes). I'm waiting for the quirks and/or the AC/2 cooldown module to bring the awesomeness back. Speaking of Awesomes, I love the AWS-9M. It's too soon to tell if I'll keep playing them a lot, but I were also pretty pleased by the Adder, nice little mech.
Look at my signature <3 my one true love, though i have been away for so long now I'll have to apologize...
If and when I do get a chance to jump on for a drop, I'm usually sporting my K2. Supposedly obsoleted I still do my best runs in it. 2X AC5, 2X LLas, 2XMLas, XL300 Mastered several times over.....
The only subpar mech I tend to run is my CDA-X5...it was one of my first mechs, and I really still love it. That said, the 3M is superior these days, so it gets more play than the X5...
Oh I almost forgot - the Anansi and Huggin.... pure fun to play but not the Spider 5D or good Jenners.
I want to fall in love with Dragons but I prefer not getting my teeth knocked out every time.. I just can#t hanlde anything heavier than 35 tons anymore.. btw do you really think the anansi is subpar? Seriously?
Hunchback has to be one of my favorite mediums in Battletech period and I would still drag one along no matter how many clan mechs I had in mech commander games.... But I've long sold mine back before I started buying mechbays... Shame on you neglecting her. CN-9 as well since I can't help but love the balanced stock load out. My very first match in MWO was in a trial Cent (pre-champion) and I actually managed to kill 2 of last 4 guys before getting worked. Someone commented 'wow a stock centurion that doesn't suck.' I'll never forget you, newb's-spirit-lifter guy. What I think people should do to measure a mech's performance is the damage per hour. Divide a chassis' total damage by the hours played. I think this shows your success piloting a certain chassis much better than KDR or WLR (pugs) since you can get kill steals or stolen. I was surprised. I have several mechs over 2.0 KDR with over a hundred matches but some of their damage per hour was below 3k. My highlanders were just over 3500 and my Cent was barely 3k. Since buying my DRG-5N back it's at a little over 4k damage / hour and a blast.
I love me some blackjacks, especially the BJ-3 with its laser spam. I'm also a huge fan of highlands, especially the HNG-333P, which isn't exactly the best of the chassis. My latest favorite is the catapult, probably my K2 the most. Even if the mechs are not meta, you can still make some pretty good builds that work well in pub matches.
From the Clan Mechs i played so far, i liked playing the Black Hawk very much, even though it is a very vulnerable Chassis and difficult to manage if you decide to load 10+ Energy Weapons. But it showed me how unforgiving this "subpar"/not-competitve Mech can be. And Hey it's always totally impressive to see 16 gunz active in a long list on your HUD. Makes you feel like driving an Assault! Plus i really love the Redesign by PGI. The classic Design is somehow a bad Joke.
6ERML+6ERSL+4MG on the Prime.. Still loving that Build. Imagine i had that Firepower in a Hunchback or a Cent or a Treb.. Design Comparison:
I hope the clan and IS tech doesn't get to the snub nose ppc / plasma cannon crap. As much as I do love clan mechs and the books regarding the clans you could argue they spoiled the true atmosphere of battletech. Scrapped together mechs with limited recovered technology finding lostech on planets and basicly being game of thrones in space. Actually it's a lot like game of thrones... Danger from the north, wildlings.. Periphery.. pirates... Clans? Mad King = Stefan Amaris? Mind blown. Anyway I tend to become fond of mechs primarily from the novels I read and wish I could run around in real life before game stats and such. HATED 7ERL nova cats, had a blast in MW4 Mercs first person league I played at the end of my mw4 days which forced balanced builds and brawlers. RIP undefeated Victor. Not sure why I don't get into victors this game as they and awesomes are my favourite IS assaults.
Because the books and lore made them sound like awesome Juggernauts of death and metal while the actual implementation of these mechs requires balance otherwise you get butthurt players complaining. In the lore and storyline there are always amazing bad ass machines of death but in the real world you need to scrap all that and "make it fair and balanced".
I always had a weak spot for the Commando. Mostly because of Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries. That was my first MechWarrior game.
