From the Lead Designer's mouth: Source: http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/187788-temporary-cooldown-ac2/ Well now, I like this. I always felt that the heat issues with the AC/2 was a bug, not a feature. That said, I'm sad that this is temporary. Anyone going to attempt to abuse this between now and Friday? I might have to run my BJ-1 AC/2 boat and see how that goes.
I just wonder if Macro abuse on DireWhales and Jagers will be enough for PGI to go, "Welp, that was a dumb idea. Turn the heat back on!"
Probably but I am interested to see what happens with a 6 AC2 KIng Crab. That thing would run ice cold if not for ghost heat.
Having run tests.... You can fire 2 AC2s at a time and be heat neutral with a King Crab 000(L) (not moduled) You can fire 3 AC2s at a time and begin to climb the heat scale If you chain fire AC2s on a macro (200ms in between each shot) you will climb exponentially after 2-3 seconds Looks like Ghost Heat still is in effect?
Well THAT sucks LOL I wanted to test things out. So the AC2 normally has a cooldown of .72 seconds? That is 720ms. Divide 720 by 6 and you get 120ms between each shot. Add the master rapid fire skill and some modules... Jesus... I bet you could fire an AC2 round every <100ms. That is a machine gun.
That is the point! If you could carry enough ammo for the thing it is a very long range DPS machine. It might only be 2 damage a round but when there are lets say 324 rounds a minute going down range. It adds up quick.
Nawwwww... PGI has a built in mitigation of this method; their shitty net code. I am finding less than half my shots seem to really do damage.
well if you macro correctly you can fire 6 ac2s without incurring heat penalty, you just need to know the right timing
We've established that the Training Grounds = Heat Penelty but LIVE does not. 120ms on LIVE = no penalty but the hit registration is so bad about 60-70% of my rounds actually do damage. Thats with a 25ms ping.
It's an interesting build but because of how bad hit registration is it tends to mitigate the whole shock and awe affect. I just had a match on Alpine where I killed 4 enemy mechs all in rapid succession and I was down to 125 rounds left... my total damage? 450 points. One of two things happened... I was fucking dead on with my aim and cored 4 mechs out mega quick I was a Mech Porn Star spraying all over like a Jackson Pollock painting and because of PGI netcode around 50-60% reigstered
3 of them were pretty banged up... and what is the macro timing you used. it looked cool and fun to play
The ADHD software with timings and groupings set a specific way. It is fun to play for a few minutes to hear the audio and wonder "how bad must his cockpit be shaking right now" but after the novelty wears off pretty quickly and you realize that all your shots aren't registering.
I missed all the fun. Going to build that new JM6-S I got in the sales into a AC2 platform again due to the 15% cooldown, 10% range and 7.5% velocity if they return it.
