This is what I have finally decided on being my Victor. It isn't the 380 I was hoping for, but it still pushes 80KPH. The only thing I really don't like is having to put ammo into a side torso with an XL engine, but with 8 tons of explodeable ammo on the mech something has to give. Basic tactic is to circle and jump over and around other mechs while pounding away with the SRMs and the AC/20. Hit them, maneuver, twist, then hit them again. Use your speed and ability to jump over and around other mechs to conserve armor all the while hitting them with a solid punch.
I can't help but think that the SRM ammo could be moved around for better protection, but that's kind of academic when you have that much AC/20 ammo sitting in the legs. In the heat of the moment, I'd aim for the Right Arm. However, the left torso is the kill zone on this 'mech. I guess the big problem is that there is no crit-padding in the RT. If you packed 2 tons into the RT and one into the CT, the SRM ammo would probably survive any encounter since the SRM launchers would be much more likely to be hit in the LT and you'll likely burn through 100 rounds of SRM ammo before you lose enough of the crit-padded CT for it to matter.
I agree Arcwright. I hate the placement of the ammo, but there is just to much of it to hide well. For the SRM ammo I went with putting it in a place where people are unlikely to shoot. With no weapons in the right torso the left side torso and arm tends to draw huge amounts of fire, that and the CT. I used to have it in the left arm, but it would always get tagged. Even with multiple other options for crit seeking, and I loose the arm, and suddenly have no ammo for the missiles either. There just is no 'good' place to put that much SRM ammo, and once I admit I can't put it all in the CT then I might as well not endanger the CT as well and just put it all in the empty RT. This way a stray shot into my internals in the CT doesn't give me an unlucky ammo crit hit.
I think a lot about how ammo gets used, and I've fired shots into the hills for the sole purpose of emptying an exposed compartment of ammo before it is compromised. Regardless of whether you choose to put AC/20 or SRM ammo in the CT, if you only put 1 ton in the CT means that you'll burn through it in 7 volleys. Whichever one goes through a ton faster, put that type in the CT and the other in the head (You can get away with the AMS ammo in the RT). If you run through AC/20 ammo and SRM ammo at the same rate, then put the SRM ammo in the head because an SRM ammo ton isn't an even multiple of your volley size. As I mull this over more and more, I'd put the AC/20 ammo in the CT. The flexibility of the multiple SRM launchers probably means that you'll use the ammo at a very irregular rate compared to the AC/20. I feel a bit silly linking to smurfy for an ammo reallocation, but here it is:
It's a viable alternative, but frankly there just is no good place to put all the ammo. I'll keep moving it around if nothing else to make people guess where my ammo is as opposed to advertising it.
Too bad you aren't a Benefactor Fuzzy. Your mech makes a cameo in the Victor video released yesterday. You are famous! Remember us when you get rich mkay?
Odd question time. Are your SRMS all coming out at once? or are there a couple chasers? I noticed in my 9S that the highest tube count i could get was 12 and only if i put certain Missiles into the LT in a specific order. anyone else notice that? for example: If i put my SRMS in my mech in a SRM4,6,2 combo( How i actually put them in, in order of first to last), i get only 10 full tubes. BUT, if i put the order in as 6,4,2 i get my full 12 tubes. is this only the victor that has this weird issue? do all other mechs have a set amount of tubes that dont change? on that note though, if its not just me, that last SRM4 could be changed to 2 so they all come out at once. But thats only if it bothers you. I know some people it does.
Yeah you have to go 6, 4, then 2 to fire in one wave. The way I have it currently it fires in a wave of 12 then a wave of 2.
