So this has been in a couple of days now; what are peoples thoughts on this?

Apparently it is working by design and I do see a valid use for it in that you can now tell what area the dead mech was killed by; cored CT, headshot, RT/LT, Legged, whatever.

    Useful or not?

I personally dislike it - I find I waste a good two seconds and sometimes a good 2 gauss rounds before I realize the mech is dead. It would be neat feature for a module that "when you die your computer keeps transmitting for X seconds" but as for a feature for everyone - I rather dislike it.

I want to say indifferent, but I'm leaning on the no side of things. I've gotten used to it but new players and teammates seem to get thrown off by it every once in awhile.

I hate to say it but I also voted no. I agree, it wastes 2 seconds of time and I find myself Dead Checking regularly "just to make sure".

I understand why it is there and how this might be useful to a newer player but after a couple of matches you get the hang of where you hit a mech and where you want to hit a mech to kill it.

This would be more useful in an after-action report than in-game.

I haven't gotten to play in nearly a week. What exactly is this you're talking about?

When you kill an enemy mech the red target box doesn't disappear for 2 full seconds. Sometimes it gives the appearance that the mech is still alive until you can see that it has fallen over visually or until the target box disappears.

Read this thread while the game was patching and I thought "nahhh, can't be that bad". A few rounds later and I've already wasted heat and ammo on dead mechs. I'd happily see this feature go away.

Ok, I've got an issue (lol, you know me, have to be the Devil's Advocate here).

As Michael stated, "Sometimes it gives the appearance that the 'Mech is still alive until you can see that it has fallen over visually or until the target box disappears." Well now, maybe that's fine for the game in it's present state, but what happens when collisions come back in? Did that 'Mech fall down due to knock down or is he dead? Do I want to hang around for 2 seconds to wait and find out? Ummmm, NO!

I'm HATING this! As a Light Pilot, those 2 seconds count, that's 2 seconds I can get out of an enemies range, get to needed cover, or move toward a team mate that can use assistance. I've caught myself completely stopping (Scout WORST mistake) to wait for that darn red targeting square to disappear to insure an enemy's death.

    Definite NO vote from me.......

    I actually liked this:

PlayerY has killed PlayerX: Destroyed Center Torso/Engine/Ammo Explosion.

Would be a nice feature, imo

It's irritating and I don't like it. I find myself worrying about firing through smoke and dead mech to hit friendlies unnecessarily behind them. It seems like your targeting system has an easier time tracking a destroyed mech than one powering down and up. Think we could throw this back into the bucket and go with what many other shooters did years ago: just say cause of death in the whoever has killed whoever via whatever.

As noted on the official forums:
Too often, mechs die out of your personal line of sight (but still targetable thanks to a teammate who has them in view), or they die standing up, or they take a few moments to topple over. In all of these scenarios now, the HUD targeting indicators given the user every indication the target is still an active threat. This is not only confusing, it is misleading. And it is causing wasted ammo, friendly fire, wasted time that could be spent engaging the next target, and similar types of problems. This needs to be resolved. This is not an acceptable or successful implementation of this "feature". Info on how a mech died belongs in the calm of the post-match report, not in the heat of the battle. The only thing that matters in the heat of the battle is knowing that the target is in fact DEAD, and this change has now impeded that.

At a minimum, the HUD targeting box needs to turn gray/black the moment the mech dies. And knowing how PGI develops, we'll wait two months for them to do even that and we won't see a proper implementation of kill data in a post-match environment until the Fall launch product, if that.

No, this was stated by a Dev as a feature. It was done to allow people to see how and where they killed an enemy mech.

It is most certainly not a bug; sadly.

PGI is redefining the line between bugs and features it would seem. How about we call them bugtures. Bugs so feature like you can spin them as such. Er features so bug like er. Theres just no way to spin this in a positive light.

Yep, I understood that seeing this thread, it was quite a shock :D I'm not the only one, my friends too were surprised when I told them the news.

Anyway, I hate it for reasons already exposed by some of you, I voted NO, and I second Marukeru's alternative suggestions ("X killed by Y (center torso destroyed)").

My only gripe is that the player stays on the radar/map.

Ok so quick example - kill dude right, I have no problem with the staying locked on during their death animation or whatever, or even to see what part of the mech was lost in top right even though that shit is kinda obvious eventually, but heres what I do... after dude dies I glance around screen, if nobody is visually on screen, I look at map and see that stupid guys red triangle still showing. Sometimes right behind me, so I'm like, 'oh god theres a light behind me!' and look back and it's the fucking dead mech.

At least have the triangle go off map, how the hell is a dead mech/dead pilot returning radar........
