I played 4-5 games solo last night in my hunchback and every single last game was close and awesome. So, my initial feedback regarding this new match maker is extremely positive! Have you guys had similar experiences? That was some of the most fun I've had in MWO in quite a while. That being said, I have yet to buddy up with my friends and drop into the scare 12vYOU queue of death and destruction. I'm quite concerned that solo play has been improved but group play is a terrible, soul-rending experience.
So far, I've only dropped into that scary Group Queue, and I gotta say, I am totally impressed. Yeah, it's scary, because you know every time that you're dropping against teams in which every player is grouped and coordinating with a friend, most likely on TS to boot. But while it may seem scary, it's also a whole ton of fun, because every match in that Group Queue is REALLY competitive, which really keeps you on your toes. Which is a good thing.
I'm apparently the outlier, since I've yet to ever group with another player in this game...but every drop I tried today was against a 12-man. Three times in a row made me quit out for a while. Will try again later...
Wait, so you drop solo and you're going against 12 mans? I was led to believe this wasn't possible with this update. Did PGI break this functionality again?
As far as I can tell, you can't drop solo against a 12-man. You can certainly be in a team that is a 2-man paired with a 10-man, though. Did that one already.
solo never gets vs a 12man, although as soon as you group up with at least 1 friend it happens i was in a 2man and dropped into a 10man myself, and they where so bad... i was running my JM-DD and did 800 dmg where the rest of the team got wasted below 300 but fear the well organised 12man, they just overrun you dropping solo i had a slightly better experience than prepatch as well i must say, but the normal day of a good player can still be hard, to be honest i just have to stop watching other ppl play
There might be a possibility it was a 2 and 10 man, but it was the same 12 players on their side each time...and no groups on ours, so I assumed . 3 times in a row told me to come back tomorrow
well... with the new matchmaker solo pugs felt a bit more balanced imho. Also as soon as you group up with at least one other player, you might end facing a 12 man premade roflstomping you. THIS can be really a pain in the ass if it happens too often
The new matchmaker can go fuck itself: Don't know if I have played a game without a guy DC'ing, crashing, tk-ing, or committing suicide right at the start since this pos went live.
I agree, the Connection got worse somehow after the Patch. Yesterday i had 3 times DC myself during a match. It was a pain. Today i played two rounds and then the same happened again. I hate it to lose the connection in the middle of an intense fight. I also agree with the Group Imbalance, when the MM puts bigger Premade Groups against Teams with small Groups. Most times it ends in a total Desaster. Yesterday i played some rounds with DogSoldieR and almost every match we met big groups of Jags, Wolves or Bears. It was a pain to see how uncoordinated teammates got gangbanged one after another. This new MM System drives the Player to either go solo pugging or team up with several mates for a big enough group to avoid being teamrolled. The small 2-4 Groups - haha, only if you are a masochist. Definitely needs some balancing improvements. Some may see it as a good challenge to fight like on competition niveau. But honestly, do you really enjoy fighting against coordinated big Premade Teams (probably using TS3), while you yourself apparently are in a big Disadvantage?? Haha. Sorry, for the moment MWO doesn`t make fun for me. So i will play something else this WE.. like D3 (just bought the Addon Collector`s Edition in a Sales Offer for only 25 Bucks. My Crusader needs some Love now. Yay! )
I've done solo, small group and large group, and so far I think it's awesome. The patch and clan mechs have renewed my interest in the game.
i do like the new matchmaker my wish is just that groups of 12 should be ONLY and ALWAYS matched with other groups with 12
Caveat: I play solo 98% of the time so it's not like my Elo is different or I'm being carried higher/lower than I should be when going from group to solo (and Elo/MM is a joke anyway, but I was consistently playing the same groups of people a lot of the time pre-Wed MM change.) With that said, I've only dropped solo since Wednesday and I have never seen so many beginners and/or morons EVER at one time. It's great for leveling my clan lights but my god, the few times I actually die in a match now, it's PAINFUL to spec. It's like almost every player that was good (or even 'competent') only plays group now and the dregs are left in solo. In one sense, it's kind of nice because 1 decent player can turn around a match, but good lord. It's a treat when I recognize even 3 names out of 23 now.
Definitely. Anyone else notice a massive uptick in the frequency of people who run off as the last man to avoid getting killed, specifically in skirmish? Damn cowards.
let me be honest if i drop solo, i do not drop into a skirmish nor assault, i only play conquest if i play for myself and for that (at least in my point of view) you can take much more advantage of a good/bad (enemy) team, compared to a simple 12v12 in a 4v4 (conquest) for me 1 player counts much more than in a skirmish/assault which i generally have much more fun other than that, the group (2-4) drop can be awfully painful, the first few hours after the patch where probably the worst. i had a 4 man group and had to fight 12mans about every 3-4 matches, which was to say it lightly...VERY BAD but 2 days later it kind of flattened out and its like 1 out of 10, which is fine with me, even sometimes dropping into a 10 or 8 premade (they usually play worse than me ) all in all i have to say the new matchmaker is still far from its optimum but better than before PS: as a side note, the solodrop pugstomp 12:0 games still happen, but not quite as much as prepatch
Finally had some better drops...but I apparently to have the bad luck of being on Team Gaggle of Mongs every round Had a round where I got 480 damage...and the other 11 people combined got 317. Le sigh. Case in point...I've gotten a lot of these matchups:
Sorry to hear that Blagg as was fun dropping with you. Our unit hasn't really had an increase in DC's - sadly 2 of our regular players have awful connections so we know they DC a lot... and no change so far on that front. Seems to be working as written from my experiences. Solo is much better in that we're back to where a small group of pugs can swing around a match again like with 8 man's. Personal performance is now critical again. Group of 5+ is really nice. I'll eat humble pie as I wasn't a fan but once the solo element was removed from the equation its lovely to just be able to add people coming on comms as they arrive. Only real negative so far is all the 12 man teams. Mainly 12th Donegal and Lords I've met so far. Not much fun going up against 12 mans with unified comms and complimentary builds in 3 mixed groups. Its only happened when we've had a 7-8 man on our side so far so I sort of see it but there's a massive difference between a 12 man tournie team and 3 random groups on different comms levelling up new mechs.
So far I'm pleased with the new system. Like some of you I noticed a lower skill level on solo queue. Were really most of the good players in groups? Anyway, it's not the total noob invasion but there is a lot of cannon fodder. As long as the MM does its job and distribute the good players on both teams (it was OK for the most part) I'm fine with that and overall I found the games more balanced (even though 12-0 still happens, but it's sometime just coordination and communication problems, not something a MM can predict). NB: in solo I exclusively drop in Conquest. Group queue is an improvement too, in my opinion. First, no more fifth player logging on the channel being answered "sorry mate, no room". Second, most of the time I found the games pretty balanced (= even in the case of one team being better, the weaker team still fights and gets some kills) and more importantly less relying on automatic moves (for example, last night we played two Skirmishes on Alpine Peak and none took place on the H10 hill, that was refreshing). I rarely got the "10 mans vs multiple small groups" situation (and never met a full team) but indeed it can be painful. Large groups should meet large groups (I'm not even asking a perfect match, but a 8/9/10 pilots group should not meet 4+4+4). As for full teams, they should face full teams, no exception. Dropping in small group (2 or 3) is kind of playing the lottery. When it's all small groups it's fun (sort of PUGish) and it's fine when completing large groups on both sides (even though you're now really dependent on the quality of the group you're matched with), but when you're facing a large group and your team is all divided, well... but like last point it should be solved by tightening the group matching. (I personally never ended in solo queue, have you?)
I haven't so far. Have to say so far with the changed MM and Clan mechs we have a lot of people back playing in unit so not had to drop solo at all since the MM change.
