Hi together, thanks a lot for the comments and answers to my first post "What mech next?" It took me some time from sniping with the raven 3L to the firestarter. But how good is that The firestarter with 8 smal pulse lasers is pure fun. And yes I like lights mechs. Have now 2 firestarters and 2 ravens. Any suggestion to try next? Thanks and have fun Steelbuddy
You need a 3rd firestarter and a 3rd raven. You need to complete 3 mech in a chassis to get into the elite tier of skills.
Yes! Get them elited! It makes a world of difference in their performance even if it can be a pain to have to buy and grind out the basics in a mech you don't see any reason to get otherwise. I'm going to do something stupid and recommend the Locust. Yes, its armor values are dangerously low and half the variants are garbage, but man is it fun to drive around. It accelerates and decelerates like nothing else. Plus, it's cheap if you only buy one xl190. The best thing you can do though to really figure out what you want next is go on smurfys mechlab and see what looks interesting to you.
Yes, getting the "Elite" efficiencies (Speed Tweek mainly) as well as getting your basic efficiencies doubled after you finish elites are vital to light mechs. The difference between 120-130 kph and 150-170 is so huge when your mech lives by mobility. Mastery level will give you an extra module, which is nice if you have modules you could take along. I'd definitely go after a 3rd RVN and FS9, even if you don't keep them, just to be able to unlock elite/mastery on the ones you have and like. For RVNs, I think the 4x, 2x, and 3L are worth keeping. The Huginn RVN hero is okay, but kind of niche. For FS9s, the A, S, and H are your lead contenders. The Ember didnt get any quirk love. If you like lights, Locusts are pretty badass with all the acceleration/deceleration quirks. Mainly the 1E, which has the most and the best hardpoints. In the last 3 months, I've got: The Pirate's Bane is low on hardpoints, but has ECM, so it might do okay too.
Hi everybody, sorry did not give you full information. Of course raven and firestarter are elited. I like raven with ECM and I bought a ember because I wanted to test the machine gun thing So I am ready for a new mech. Commando? Thanks Steelbuddy
I can't really recommend on the Commandos. Still fun to take out, but others long surpassed them. You should look into either Spiders or Locusts if you want to do another light chassis.
I still like the Jenners (F + D)....but they dont have ECM...so Spiders or Locusts are prolly the better choice....
I can easily recommend spiders as they are still great mechs, but try out an Urbanmech, you may just like it.
If you want a very light mech, I recommend (and won't be the only one) the Locust over the Commando. Same speed, more hardpoints, better hardpoint placement, insane acceleration/deceleration quirks, better profile... The only thing I can think of giving the commando an advantage is its arm mobility, which is absolutely amazing and makes tracking a target a piece of cake. But the Locust still wins. LCT-1E and -3M first. For the third... meeeeh... Pirate Bane if you're willing to buy a hero... Niche indeed, but it would provide variety to his garage, since I don't think he has a missile mech yet. And it's much better than "okay"! But it's a hero mech, we can't recommend it like any c-bill variant.
You might also consider Cicada, which is a medium, but it moves like a light and plays similar to the Raven (though with ballistics instead of missiles). I have a soft nostalgia spot for that mech.
Panther for PPCs/ERPPC, new weapon system, new fun, or locust, new super-speed, new fun. The other lights will be a bit more similar to the Firestarters, while being inferior, not recommended at the moment. Yeah the huginn too, that is the only light mech that can really be a full SRM mech with the other hero, the oxide, but that comes for real money, I'd still wait and play for free.
Get commando chassis elited and get The Death Knell, aka TDK. I tis the fastest mech in the game just slipping by the Locust.
I would definitely put bets on a lot of those being group queue, yes...seeing as solo queue tries to balance your W/L as much as possible (to my chagrin)
About the K/D ratio, it depends on your teammates. I'm pretty sure tfun kills much more mechs solo than grouped with SJR. It's the fastest mech just by a 2 kph difference. That's nothing when we're talking about 170kph speeds, and certainly won't make up for all the Locust advantages. That being said, I like the TDK, it's the only commando I kept. But I would certainly pick a LCT-1E over a TDK.
I would say maybe 50/50 solo and pug matches, perhaps more solo than group. Rarely 12, rarely full meta tryhard loser mode. If you go through my post history regarding locusts I think there are some stats based on vast majority solo queue. That said, I am also one of the best light players in the game. My connection/location and gaming rig could be better, but even so.
And he wasn't on the ban list, so we can't even claim he has help at being better than us! *cries* Guess I just have to accept that Tfun's on the list of people who can outplay me in a light
