How's it going, Mag? Any news? Did you successfully convert her?

My older brother, his wife and I used to play WoW together a lot... A LOT! However, with that game's decline and our Raid Team falling apart, she doesn't have any games (besides Facebook games and Phone Apps) that she really gets into. A little New Vegas here, a little Neverwinter Nights there. She's finally cancelling her WoW account and my brother wants to find a game that the three of us could have fun playing again, so, I think I'm going to create a new account, spam up some cash for her and get a good mech all readied up for her... Just wondering if you'd had any success getting a woman who isn't necessarily a "gamer" into MWO...

Why don't you just go into the training grounds? Teach the basics there (moving, shooting, etc, etc) and go into a match when he/she understands most of the basics. Also get them to study a bit into the weapons and equipment (such as the max range for MLs or what Artemis does). I had watched MWO matches for a while before actually playing, so I knew what was what when I started playing.

    That's what I needed.

    Yet, not satisfying.

Has someone an idea for a solution in game?

    Makro, maybe?

Not satisfying indeed, I'd like them to give us the choice between toggle and press.
So yes, macro, I don't see other solution.

I approve of this variant and build. This is one of my first mech I bought (second after my CN9-A). Although I started an year ago which basically was much before many of the mechs that were released, I still have this mech.

    +symmetrical hard points
+most durable of all the hunchback chassis
    +can brawl with ease
+stock mech comes with best configuration (still need DHS and ES)
+flexible mech due to hard points
+Hunchback chassis have the best torso twist making it a great mech to learn torso twisting

I definitely recommend this mech. My slight variation is that I don't have Artemis and 1ML for head with AMS and AMS ammo.

My alternative variation is 1 TAG, 4 ML, 2 LRM 10. It's my LRM support :p

'Eh she played around a bit but never got totally into the game. She's played a lot of games in the past but MechWarrior is so different from everything else it is just odd to teach. As far as her mechbay goes she has 3 Blackjacks, the Ilya, and the free Centurion. My own playing of the game has waned again. I had previously quit playing for several months and I might end up doing the same again. The new maps and mechs kept me interested for a time but MWO is certainly suffering from the lack of options at the moment.

Out of all the games my wife and I have played together I think WoW has been the most successful. Particularly when we played our Mage/Healer combo... random PUGs doing instances loved us for the heals and burst damage. We rolled through the levels pretty quickly. I still occasionally miss WoW but I've sworn off all subscription games. Free to Play or Buy to Play is the only thing that I'm willing to get into these days.

It isn't out yet but I am hopeful for Everquest Next. I worry the combat system might be too simplistic. But everything else about it looks good so far. In the meantime I highly suggest Loadout if you don't mind a fast paced twitchy shooter. It is hilarious good fun. The game modes are a bit limited right now but they're adding more soon (and with the dev twitch streams I've seen what they're working on so I believe them).

And then of course there are some co-op games on Steam which my wife and I have enjoyed. My wife loves Borderlands 2. And we had a lot of fun with Sanctum 2. Both of those games can support 4 players at a time so while they aren't MMOs they should be enough for the 4 of you. Good luck!

We are trying to teach a friend who is actually trying to get into it.

In the end, it came down to this: "The first 1000 drops will suck. Cry a lot. We all did. Do not spend MC - it is what they want you to do. By about drop 1500, you will start getting it. Until then, get used to sucking and we will be there for you."

The fucking difficulty ramp is so high in this game, most people never get past their first 50 drops. If I did not have buddies playing this game, I never would have stayed.

That whole new user experience? They need to hire out some Star Citizen teams to [size=14pt]build some SINGLE PLAYER Co-OP maps. Want to LEARN? Single player with your buddies, not a bunch of Meta red smoke pop tarts with ridiculous builds you are weeks away from affording.
