Hello! I don't know how often it happens to you guys, but I have some odd wins every now and then. (And losses). Just yesterday, my team lost when our last Commando fell off a platform and died from falling damage seconds before we hit 750 resources collected. This thread, however, will be for those odd wins! I'll start with a game we won with zero living teammates. Conquest on Alpine, we started 1 man down (DC, and you probably know where this is going) Almost there! A few seconds later... http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy61/tginouye/Mechwarrior%20Screenshots/cf6b81ef-2dd4-405c-a2b1-ee8bd1925bfb.jpg[/img] May not be the strangest, but it was at least an interesting win. Do you have any untraditional wins to share?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l56VgxvFajY This was a strange win... Also this, we started with 2 discos, then 2 more left because they were heavily discouraged to 'waste their time', and a firestarter's client must've crashed somewhere at the beginning of the game:
... last night I was killed as my Firestarter evidently tripped over a rock... I was nooooooooot happy! I had lost all armor in my legs and went to retreat away from one of the ramps on Terra Therma. Mind you, I was NOT jumping off the side of a ramp, but, rather running straight down the alley. All the sudden my mech FACEPLANTS and both legs were destroyed. No enemies in sight. "Chattahah has killed Chattahah" Dafuq? S7 was there. He'll tell ya. I raged. I know, not an odd win. Just an odd story. And I'm still a bit sore about it.
As far as my Strangest Win? Well, that'd have to be the Murder-Suicide in my VTR-9B. I was running 2x AC/5, 2x LLas, 2x SRM4. I was finishing one hell of a round and already had 6 kills. I was out of Autocannon ammo and was beat to hell. I saw that an enemy was capping our base (before turrets) so I rushed through the buildings of Frozen City back towards my base. I round a corner expecting a light and instead come face-to-face with a Highlander! It took me by surprise, but, I was running full tilt with no cover to escape to, so, I jump-jetted over him and turned around a corner to gain cover. I gave myself some room, hoping that my LLas could find some open components. As he rounded a corner at about 150m, I unleashed everything I had. Dual LLas into his open shoulder and an SRM 8-pack. His PPC cut me down as soon as he could get a bead. Damn. Then it happened... After my death, my SRMs impacted, blowing out his shoulder and sending him back to the hell he came from! Got the kill after my own death! Final enemy - match won. 7 kills, about 800 damage if my memory serves. Good day.
Any time I'm the last 'Mech on our team and pull off the win. ;-) Especially when the remaining two 'Mechs outweigh my by about four times. But I was in a battle once where we were down to the disconnect and had more control points than they... We refused to tell them coordinates on our disconnect until they took our caps. It was really damn close, really close.
Conquest, win by resources, everyone in the team dies except for this afk dude at the corner, enemy team cannot find him despite having 4 left, and does not have time to neutralize all the points.
We killed the last mech at 745 and a hurrah moment.... then the end screen came up. Most flabbergasting loss ever to a mech that wasn't even there.
Losing both arms + one leg but fighting till the bitter end for a Win without getting killed + getting highest score in the round. Video is posted in my video thread..
Having every single complement except for your left arm stripped of armor with a cherry red center, and still managing to win the match. Credits to Aylek for actually winning that one for us
Not a win or loss moment, but the strangest and funniest thing I ever saw was a Mech getting killed by a Disconnect. In the rush to kill the last disconnected mech, a light mech at about 30% ran right into the disconnect and it killed him, even listed the disconnected mech with 0 damage, 1 kill, disconnected.
I had a strange round tonight that totally did not meet my expectations at all. I dropped into a match with some TS friends, only to get called for dinner when we reached the loading screen. So I was like, "Uh, guys, I gotta go for dinner here. So don't follow me, but I'm gonna rush the enemy kamikaze style, just so I can help the team a little before I leave." So that's what I did: I ran straight forward as fast as I could in my Banshee, (going ~56 kph), and fired at any enemy I could lay my eyes on long enough to pull the trigger. I expected to die in less than 60 seconds; instead, I lasted long enough to do ~750 dmg, 4 kills, and multiple assists. The PUGs on my team followed behind me as I ran kamikaze style into the enemy ranks . . . and blew up several of the opposing 'Mechs! So needless to say, I was a bit late for dinner. What started as a kamikaze run turned out to be a pretty darn good match for me. When I finally died, (by overheating, of all things, while killing their 2xGauss Jagger! ), the enemy team was down to 3 'Mechs, and we'd lost only 1 or 2 besides myself. I didn't wait around to see the end result, but with how fast the match went, my guess is I got top score on both teams --- by rushing kamikaze style through the enemy forces!
A very close one... we massacred ourself in the center.. and last surviving dude with an open CT went slowly to their base, getting hit by all of their turrets, but he did his job
So we were readying up when a 3-man premade decided to drop out o the match, so suddenly we're in 9 vs 12 match: We all figured we had no shot, but Wesxander had the great idea that we should all form up behind the three disco'd mechs, and wait for the enemy to come to us, using the unmanned mechs as shields. It worked surprisingly well: http://s11.postimg.org/i2ojp4srn/Screen_Shot0118.jpg[/img]
My whole team was piloting heavy, slow 'mechs on Alpine Assault. I'd spotted the enemy forces running a search pattern and it dawned on me: The enemy team is out for blood. I typed to my team, "fukkit, baserush!" The team of pugs not only followed me, but helped protect me after getting nearly cored when I charged the base. The enemy team came to fight us, but we used the base assets as cover. We won, losing only a few mechs and annihilating the poor lance that came to defend the base. I only suggested that course of action because I didn't realize how tough it is to charge a base and to organize your team to follow you.
I've posted this before, but it fits well here too. It's seldom something such as this happening in a pug, but the stars must have been aligned that night.
The best one I can remember was speccing at the end of a Skirmish match, waiting for our last guy (a DC, naturally) to get killed. 3 enemies left...but they were all in bad shape, it was a close match. They all find the DC at the same time and get close to kill him, and one of the silly asses drops an artillery. And they all walked in. Artillery gets 1 suicide, 2 TKs...DC is just fine. Win for us. The rage in chat was magnificent.
Conquest. We were figthing but not capping and far behind on resources. At the end, when they had only one or two lights left we capped but were behind with something like 300 550 (from memory, it was a while ago) and having just one or two base(s) capped. We went on capping like madness and we saw the resources go something like: (us) (them) 740 - 745 745 - 747, 749 - 749, and, finally 750 - 749... damn, that was close.... but we won
So I re-purchased the CTF-3D and I have been running it like a bigger BJ-1 with AC20 and 4 Mediums with the same playstyle. Started a game tonight on Caustic where 3 teammates ran single file into the bulk of the enemy, putting us down 3-0 immediately after first contact. Then it was 5-0 and shortly thereafter, 6-0. None of us had LRMs but they sure as hell did. We decided to make a run for it behind one of the big rocks near the base to try to goad them into closing range and having to deal with the turrets as well. It worked, but the enemy team was attacking both sides of our rock and after we got a couple kills and dished out some damage (down 2-8 at this point) I was able to convince those who remained to push one way around the rock together. We had a downright nasty brawl and somehow managed to come out on top, all at critical damage levels: I'm quite happy they didn't use the rest of the map and their range advantage to defeat us, because that was an awesome brawl.
Damn, the three of you really carried that one. Nice job for sure. Just had this one a minute ago in my Ember...in addition to being the best I've done in it so far, it started out very poorly on Crimson. Our team had a really good start, surging in all in one group and getting 2 quick kills...but then something just went wrong. We went from a cohesive blob of death to spread out in the span of about 20 seconds, and the numbers started going bad. 2-1. 2-4. 2-7. 2-8. Finally, we're down to the final push...and something strange happens. It seems I can suddenly do no wrong...I JJ at just the right time to dodge PPCs and ACs. I disengage only to come out behind 3 assaults. And then the weirdest, strangest thing I've ever done: I come out behind the enemies, alpha with my MLas and MGs...and see 4 component destructions at the same time. I was too busy to get a screenshot...but somehow, I tagged and blew up legs on 4 different mechs with one alpha. Ended up with the win, a new record, and a nice story for how it happened. Booya.
