Remember to fill it out on the oficial forum. That is about the only thing that is useful for the official forum actually. I had the same problem a few patches ago. PGI do fix things like that between patches. For now, try the "repair" option or a reinstall. After the buff Awesome is kinda fun, Was doing 2x ERLL 3x LRM15 and reaps the kills quite quickly so.
I am also really enjoying playing the Awesome atm Made half my kills this weekend with the 8T. Coming week will be all Timber-/direwolf again though.
Boy, am I glad that I kept my trusted old Stalker 3H. We were at a friend's house playing pen & paper rpg and I squeezed in enough rounds to complete the challenge. The other MWO player, our GM, needed like forever with his 2 Griffins. At least twice the rounds. Our two other pen&paper players reacted with mild amusement and nonunderstanding when we abused our host's computer.
I needed 11 games to get it done in the standard CTF-3D Dual Gauss. Definitely saw a lower percentage of clan mechs due to the challenge, but the loadout fared pretty well. I felt like I had a whack of kills stolen, but that's pretty typical for the build due to its good ability to strip armor at range and damage being dealt in chunks sparsely apart. Loved the sale. Loved the freebie... hated the challenge. It changed the way I played from reasonable play to, "MUST!!! GET!!! KILLS!!!" I didn't care for it. I felt that the difficulty of the challenge was an extreme jump from the "Five wins and it is yours!" of the previous freebies. Had it been more time than just a weekend, or if it had been less kills, or if it had been another free mech, *then* I think it would have been reasonable. As it is, I felt it was too much.
I was just annoyed at the variants they left out...if Cicada 3M was included, I'd have gotten it in an hour or two...
I'm pretty sure the C3 is just a typo, and they meant the HBK-4P(C). As for the challenge, I started off great with a bunch of 2 and 3 kill games in a row, then when I hit 15 kills I hit a massive cold streak, where I played just terribly without any kills for what must have been 10 matches. I even had two matches in a row where I got 0 damage (got LRM'd out of existence trying to crossempty ground). Since this made me sick of all my mechs, I reconfigured my SHD-2H to 3xAC2 with a shit-ton of ammo, just because it's fun to play and not really a finisher, but somehow managed to get 5 kills on my first outing to finish off the challenge.
I think the challenge was reasonable and not overly difficult. Of course, I already had a wide selection of mechs and builds to work with. One of my lancemates had just 1 to work with. I got stuck on nr 20 myself, 8-9 games with zero kills then finally in a Hunchback (still not mastered) I got it. Funny as I got about 5 kills with a Kit Fox as I assisted a lancemate with Narcs at the time. The KFX is not generally a killer...
Did forget one game in my CTF-3D on Tourmaline, I kept getting assists, but wasn't doing much...and then I got killed, and dropped a desperation airstrike. Had 0 kills when I died...and 4 at the end of the match. 4 airstrike kills all at once, 2 seconds after I died They were piiiiissed.
I prefer it to be at least this difficulty actually. To me, its supposed to be a challenge and not just a giveaway. It would be even better if they started doing challenges that were both difficult and taught players new dimensions of the game. Some that I can think of: - Get component destruction on 20 legs (or arms or side torsos) - Core 10 opponents in the back (game probably doesn't support this atm) - Get 20 narc/tag bonuses - Deploy 10 UAVs and destroy 5 opponent UAVs - Get 10 C-ECM assists - Play assault and destroy 20 turrets - Play at least 10 matches and finish the weekend with a KDR above 1.00 - Play at least 10 matches and win more than you lose The first couple would show people different ways to get kills in the game. The middle three are rarely played tactics. The assault challenge would probably lead to base rushing unnecessarily, so maybe restrict turret destructions to only count in games with >6 opponent kills. The last couple are some that I could think of that is not farming/grinding based. They could even do tiered rewards, giving the useful rewards away at the low level and vanity rewards at the higher tiers. Perhaps not new player friendly to achieve some of these, but they would make them better players.
Nice Challenge ideas, would be nice to see some more specific challenges like that, but as you say, not sure how many the game would support right now. I did fall into the same trap, went into a kill kill kill mode, and died a lot as a result..
I liked them all, except that one. More because of the utter stupidity I see in many PUG games Would suck to lose out on a freebie just because I had 11 teammates whose idea of a good time was nibbling on drywall...
Yea I'll admit that one is a bit extreme because it inherently means half of the people who play won't win the prize. So maybe that's a, "play 10 games" for the free mechbay, and then "win more than half" for a free cockpit medallion or something. That way, the useful item everyone gets, and the show-boating item is attached to some status that's a bit more difficult to obtain.
I did better when I let my bloodlust out a little. There are certainly some builds that work better for that than others, but the hunchies were very good at it.
I totally ignored the blood lust and just concentrated on levelling new mecs up... let the kills come as they came. Possibly why it took me 22 battles as I kept having 9-10 assist games. On the good side I earnt a lot of XP and recouped a good amount of c-bills. I always felt the previous challenge was just a live test of the mechanics. e92 as interesting as some of those are you know we'd just end up slightly retooling mechs to add BAP etc.
BAP has became a full need in any mech with SSRMs and/or front-line-duty. Im refitting all my line-fighters with it (basically 2/3 of my mechs  ). Curiously i find them less and less usefull in my LRM boats, i prefer the 270 missiles it weights. U do really need to lock those annoying ECM lights so ur team LRMs know whr to aim, but the range its too short to be usefull in a boat.
