Since the Star Citizen project isn't operational yet (we are waiting on licensing for XenForo) I thought I would post here...

If you were building an awesome Star Citizen rig what would you use?

    I'm thinking of the following...

    i7 - Something with 8 Cores
16gb + of RAM (clock to be decided)
3x soon to be released Asus G-Sync IPS monitors (http://www.pcgamer.com/acer-unveil-super-quick-144hz-g-sync-ips-monitor/)
2x 980s or a single 980Ti if and when those come out.

Thoughts? I'm looking to start speccing things together for a December purchase and will adjust as new technologies come out or prices come down.

Well not 8 cores if you're overclocking as the power/heat to run those 8 cores is high. Haswell (Devil's Canyon ) probably is the realistic best venue for games still. In fairness if overclocking doesn't interest you then arguably that's still the best processor for games.

If you're desperate for 8 cores on a normal CPU there's not much..... just the Haswell-E 5960X from memory. Thats DDR4 RAM and a new motherboard anyway so things get expensive fast. On the good side the RAM seems to have been properly binned now so at least its a lot better than at launch - reliable and timings much improved.

I being miserly am waiting to see what arrives by the time the TI's are out. ;)

The problem is, I know the Intel-Micron Hybrid Memory Cube production is going to be ramping up thru year, and may be available at the end of this year. I won't provide a source, bc this is still in it's prototype stage, but the companies that can produce this, are already getting the tooling for this.

So if you don't depend on maybe, go with DDR3 with 2000+ rating.
