Be wary man. I've seen more than my fair share of spiders trying to play old school and just dancing through mobs of enemies barely scratched, only to get torn to shreds in less than 10 seconds now.
I still can dance, the problem is that ERPPC causes a shutdown now more frequently. I found myself in the red after 3-4 shots. Even after my heat went down to 80%, firing it was tricky. Remember, I also use JJs to maneuver and the occasional laser shot. I found heat management was very difficult. I was also no longer a viable counter to lights. If before, I could do good damage to lights, then now, i overheat too fast and need back up. For a comparison run, I opted for an ERLL and upgraded the SLaser to MPlaser. Still dodged in and out of enemies and did more damage at the end of the round then i did with the ERPPC. The difference in heat from 13 to 8.5 could easily be felt. I never came close to overheating. I did run the 5D with 3MPLasers a few times for my own comparison (some time ago) I found that this variant did about 10-25% percent less damage than the ERPPC (due to range restrictions). At the onset of a round, i can usually land 5-10 long range hits with the ERPPC, that adds up. The ERLL can't be used for that (you're too easy to see), what it is good for is just lots of constant firing. Will test out with the LPLaser. anyways, those have been my observations and my 2 creds. I was shying away from the 5D all evening, was afraid to get into it since the only mech that I can do more damage in, is the DDC.
I switched out the 2xERPPC on my X5 to 2xLPLas. It seems to be working okay for fighting lights, though you don't get the pinpoint damage. I'm also really missing the ECM disruption I got from the PPCs.
I'm still on the fence about the patch. Parts I like, parts I dislike, then there is the gauss rifles. I have always wielded gauss rifles incorrectly (I snipe on the way into my brawls), that's just who I am. But the delay irks me. I don't know if I like it, or hate it flat-out. When I first read the patch-notes at work before heading home, I was pretty pissed. After a few minutes to think about it, I started to put it in a better light: "Only the worthy will now wield GR's successfully." I don't know how that will actually go over, but I took my 'mets out for a spin when I had the chance. Surprisingly, I found I was actually landing more of my shots, and more accurately. That delay gives me a chance to perfect my aim before releasing. But I also found myself needing to fire a shot, and not having it available when I expected it to be, causing me a match. I'll get used to it, unquestionably. I do think .75s is a little long of a delay, without reducing the cooldown at least a little. But, I was still able to rock the Muromets without feeling like my entire playstyle was nerfed out of the game. It has its ups-and-downs. The PPCs are back to their pre-buff stats, with the ERPPC being beaten with a Louisville slugger until it isn't twitching anymore. I guess PGI was just really tired of hearing people complain about them. I only complained when there were 3 pepsi stalkers on an enemy team one-shotting everyone from 600+ meters out. After they introduced heat penalty, PPCs were fair game, IMO. PGI obviously disagrees with me. Overall, I'm happy with the HSR fix(es). I was actually able to kill 2 lights without having to dump 25% of my ammo into them before it registered a glancing blow or something. I think everyone is happy with HSR fixes though, it has been in pretty high demand. The Orion/Protector looks pretty BA, but it's pricey. Especially after I just spent money on Overlord and Saber. Still haven't played with the new zoom. I guess I'll have to buy the module and test it out.
A lot of that is due to the fact that the Gauss rifle flies across the battlefield at a much faster rate now
