with the SRM Buff im trying this build out at the moment as a Skirmisher (Hit & Run).. should be more viable now. Besides you have 3tons of Missile.Ammo. Alternative with BAP: Blagg
I think this is a cool build. I played around with it a bit on testing grounds (It's late and I could just now afford the XL 295.) It can one-shot a commando with a well-placed alpha strike and all the weapons cool down at the same rate. I grouped the arm lasers separate of the one in the torso, providing me with four groupings: 2x MLas (Rt Arm) 1x MLas (Rt Torso) 1x SRM6 & 1x SRM2 (Lt Torso, Lt Arm) Alpha Strike I'll probably edit this post later after I have some experience with it to determine if the three tons of SRM ammo is better than the extra heat sink.
Seems like the new meta to run now. Good build though 300 SRM ammo is too much i think. You can put that ton + a bit of armor removal into BAP or something, so that you have better scouting capabilities and don't have to turn your own ECM off to make other detectable. AMS might be viable as well to shoot down a few streaks or LRMs but generally LRMs won't be locked on to/near you and streaks are a lot worse nowadays.
I run builds similar to this on my Raven 3L. The engine is a bit slower, but the armor is the a bit better while having BAP. The extra 7 KPH doesn't seem to help me much. This mech isn't that great at chasing and killing lights. You need SSRMs and MPLs for that. And we are just talking about 9 armor points between 215 and 224 which isn't that big of a deal when shaved off a few places. With TAG, its very heat efficient and makes lots of c-bills in TAG/Narc bonuses which makes up for the loss of firepower.
I've been getting between 300-600 damage a match with the default build (3ML, SRM6, SRM2). My strategy is to escort heavies with the ECM then once the fighting breaks out scare off the lights and team up on bigger guys. The most important thing is to avoid unneeded damage. If you survive into the second half of the match and have a team equal or stronger than the enemy you can destroy just about anyone in a 1v1, or better yet shoot 8 SRMs into someone's back! Great build, 5 stars.
okay. I know this is going to sound crazy. but I've been putting the srm 6 in the arm. you can drill all six kind of more or less into one spot instead of spreading damage. Not as quick up close, but decent for distance. And you can track well with it... so you don't have to worry so much about half your silo missing, and track so long as they're in range. And it's nice when they are running away and trying to zigzag. I put the srm2 in the torso, for teensy burst, and the spread seems okay. Is this the dumbest thing you've heard?
Well, the DPS decreases very much. you take 2 seconds longer firing every missile one at a time, so the 'cooldown' starts 2 seconds later, and you basically reduce your DPS by 33% = DPS of an SRM2. Also having to face the enemy for several seconds while firing gives them the chance to aim back and easily take out which component they want, which isn't worth it for such a low DPS weapon. This is also why PPCs are more popular than the more heat efficient and lighter lasers. TL;DR, I think it's a really bad idea, even if it seems to be working for you. It's better to run abit closer, fire the SRM6 from a reallyclose range and back off again, twisting your torso.
