Before the Cataphract, there was only void and silence. Then Kerensky said, "let there be poptart" and it was good. Before the 3D, there was only 2D, and it was flat. Then Kerensky said, "you shall alpha in all 3 axis!" and it was good. Then PGI was like "man fuck that"
The last one included a few like the Nova so it's a fair assumption there will be more clan quirks, they haven't specifically said though.
Ah ok fair enough. I'll be greatful if they tone down the Thunderbolts slightly. The MPL one is nasty be reasonably easy to deal with, but CW is full of triple PPC bolts and they seem to rape face. Clan bias ftw!
The mechs that were adjusted in Quirk Pass 1 will more than likely NOT be touched in Pass 2. Thunderbolts were already changed/adjusted in Pass 1. See Here for PDF I hope they tone the 9S down slightly as well... but then again they could alternately increase the effectiveness of other mechs so the 9S doesn't stand so alone.
I dunno, the Ilya has some pretty decent AC/10 and MLas quirks... If you play the Marmot to it's quirks, you have an AC/10 with 15% faster projectiles and MLas that fire 15% faster with 15% shorter beam duration... Not the greatest quirks, but, not bad on a hero.
I wish they would reevaluate their balancing systems of Ghost Heat and Quirks. Ghost Heat should be more overt and quirks shouldn't be weapon specific. I'd prefer a game where there are pros and cons to the weapons and playstyles than "oh yeah this weapon is good because X mech can do it good."
^^^ SO MUCH THIS!!! I like the idea of quirks, it brings certain mechs back the battlefield that otherwise didn't have a current role, however, it also SEVERELY limits the builds... Want to run a DRG-1N? You'd BETTER have two AC/5s, because, if not, you're MILLLLES away from the DPS you should have. What to run a TDR-9S? Better have trip PPCs. Huggin? SRM4 machine gun... It does really hurt the game (in my opinion) that builds for particular mechs are being dictated by the Devs instead of players...
On the other hand without that good quirks clan mechs would be too strong, and to be that strong they need to be weapon specific, a general but inferior quirk would not put them on clan level. High values means you'd still load the highest damage weapon and use the quirk at most, so just AC20 LPLs and PPCs if a mech can hold those vs lower (aka as Solahma said, take the heaviest possible mech).
But then there are massive redundancies and then you drift back to the "Take the heaviest of every weight class" metagame again. I prefer the quirks over that mentality. Any day.
