It is really frustrating. One of the maps that used to be my favorite is nearly unplayable for me now. Whenever I have to use Thermals on Frozen city my frame rate drops about 80%. I go from about 90FPS to sometimes below 20FPS. What the hell is the deal? I have tried updating flash and have seen no improvement. It isn't my system. I am running dual 2GB 660Ti in SLI, 16Gigs DDR5 Ram, and an 8 core 3GHz processor slightly over clocked and a Solid State hard drive...

I didn't think MWO even supported SLI right now? If not then you are only running one card. Have you recently updated your nVidia drivers?

    Nice system Ian.
    I am running 6 cores 8gig of ram and 1 560ti.
I can't seem to duplicate your problem.
If updating your nVidia driver doesn't work, I would benchmark your SSD, just to check that you aren't dealing with performance degradation... probably not an issue, especially if the drive is new, but I am dealing with a problem at work with SSD's and your problem seems.... similar.

    Hi

I don't think this is a hardware related issue. I have the same problem, sometimes. Unless you have verbose log files that tell you about a problem, it is virtually impossible to guess what causes this, but the best approach is to open a support ticket with PGI regarding that issue. Looks like an application error.
Even if they claim that they don't know what that is and that you need latest drivers blahblah, they will internally look at this in detail because i'm pretty sure this is a common thing.

I was pretty satisfied with PGI support last time.

What you can try is: Next time you see this issue when switching to heat vision, alt-tab to desktop and back to MWO. For me, this sometimes fixes the problem.

By the way, your hardware is extremely overpowered :)

    I run mwo with a quad i5 and a GTX560ti and i have like 50-70 fps and it doesn't look crappy, that's all I want :p

    btw

SSDs are cool but - if you use them with an incompatible controller (or raid controller) you gonna have a bad time

partition alignment and TRIM command compatibility is key

you should get like 20k iops and ~500mb/sec throughput on sequential reads or so

ok i'm being a smartass now

    stop me pls

No worries brudder I understood it, having several ce certs myself. Every time I talk to PGI about it they say they know there is some frame loss but my case is extreme. I have the latest NVIDIA drivers, my SSD is on a compatible RC and my flash was updated to the latest version. I even make sure that my disk is cleaned up regularly. I think what I may try next, since it used to work fine and now it doesn't is completely uninstall MWO (making sure all hooks are gone from the registry after) then re-install.

    1) what could have caused the change in performance? Was it after a patch, windows update, etc?
    2) Without log files it's sooo hard to get valuable information abut an issue.. it's a general windows thing I guess

the SSD can't cause your problem in that case, my statement was meant for skidog2k3

 sorry, I usually don't just chime in on tech issues like that unless I know beyond a shadow of doubt what I'm talking about. In this case I am remiss :(

I have an ATI Radeon 5850, an Intel Core i7 @ 3.3 GHz (Quad core), 16Gb of RAM.

Testing grounds in Frozen City, standing in the center of B3, facing the awesome in B2:
Vsync is off, but framerate is capped at 60FPS. Checked video card settings, no reason for it there.
Turning thermal vision on drops FPS to 55.
Changing all settings to Very High:
    Framerate with thermal off: 45
    Framerate with thermal on: 42
Changing Effects to low: No change.
Changing Object Detail to low: 46/43
    Changing Particles to low: 47/44
    Changing Post-Processing to low: 48/44
    Changing Shading to low: 51/46
    Changing Shadows to low: 60/55
    Changing Texturing to low: 60/57
    Changing Environment to low: 60/60
    Changing Anti-Aliasing to off: 60/60
Setting all settings to very high again, changing Shadows to low: 55/50
    Changing Texturing to low: 57/52
Changing Environment to low, shadows and texturing to very high: 53/49
    Changing AA to Off: 55/50
    My normal settings:
Object Detail, Texturing, Environment, and AA all Very High, the rest Low. I'd like to figure out why Vsync seems to be on even though it's off everywhere in my settings. I like to min/max my FPS, and reduce settings that contribute to visual clutter. Things like fancy particles and HDR bloom just get in the way.
