There is a reason I left the game. Okay a couple. First was the fact that Match Maker was a joke, if you wanted to have a fun match with your friend chances were you ended up fighting 12 man premades. The new one thats going to make me leave the game AGAIN VERY soon is the new (re-new) LRM spam.
There is no other weapons system that brings an entire matches gameplay to a shuddering halt. When it becomes apparent the other team has a couple LRM boats (nearly every match) the entire friendly team digs in under a rock and sits still until they are slaughtered one by one. It isn't about actually being hit by LRMs, I am pretty good about dodging them, its the fact they completely ruin the match because everyone is too afraid to move.
With the new Clan mechs not only able to mount an insane amount of LRMs they can also mount enough direct firepower to make an Atlas take a step back and go wtf. That has made it not as easy to rush to the back as a light, obliterate the poorly defended catapult then continue your game play. Even IF the light goes for it, which they rarely do, they find a mech that can STILL one shot them even WITHOUT the LRMs.
My problem with LRMs is 3 fold

1.) No other weapons system enables the user to fire without the risk of counter attack (even pop tarts).
2.) No other weapons system drags gameplay to a halt.
3.) By definition, any weapons system that requires MANY steps be taken to prevent death is OP. To counter LRMs requires:

ECM (5 or so mechs get that so discount having it available).
AMS (even that is not good enough considering an AMS is designed to counter a single LRM 5 and NOT the LRM 120 in most matches. Even IF the AMS works well its ammo lasts MAYBE a minute to two minutes under heavy assault.
Hard cover to hide under and behind (operative word being HIDE).
Radar Deprivation - New players or players with new mechs have at most 2 module slots. If I have to give up one of those slots, 15k GXP AND 6million credits just to fit something that MAY give me a chance.....
and finally you need to drive a mobile mech in order to be able to dodge them.

It is easy to fix this problem.

Once lock is lost, its lost. No more of the reacquiring target lock allowing LRMs to do a U-Turn.
Provide more mechs with ECM OR provide a more reliable AMS (why do you waste ammo firing through terrain or buildings when there is no way for the LRMs to hit you?) (Ive gone through a ton of AMS ammo being INSIDE the building on the new map.
Increase the heat dramatically for LRMs, They did it for ERPPC, now do it for LRMs.

    This. So much this.

I saw you online yesterday and, I must admit, I was excited! More IanSane videos incoming? Could it be true??

However, while some vast improvements in-game have been made, there are still so many glaring deficiencies (as you've pointed out) that if a player had called it quits, the improvements will rarely be enough to breathe life back into the game for most players.

Hopefully, you were not completely turned away and with some adjustment, can find a spot in the game again. If not, that's understandable, many, MANY players have left and unless you have a solid group to support you, PUG life is still usually a bitch of a grind.

    Cheers, Ian.

I want 3rd party locks nerfed to hell. If the mech firing the LRMs is not using its own lock, then it suffers a massive penalty on LRM accuracy. Simple. It then makes LRM use actually pilot-skill based.

Nothing says "I'm a cheese-dick with no skill" like LRM boating.

Poor IanSane.. I hope you still try to work it out to get any success with your friends. Just need to communicate even more with the whole team right after the Drop. Teamplay is important as like never before.

But yeah you are absolutely right, now after Clan Mechs Arrival the game is even harder to play for Newbies. Even for Veterans it`s challenging to not get gangraped by a Group of nasty Mad Cats and Dire Cheese.

To counter LRMs well... you need some ECM Mechs and LRM Boats on your own team. If you don`t have any, well, try to take routes with cover.. and pray not to get Caustic Valley. haha

And whenever you have a frustrating MWO day, do it as I do - play some other Games or watch some funny youtube clips. ;)

There are effective counters out there ... my Kitfox with ECM and triple AMS makes short work of even current LRM's and in fact when we've been 5-8 manning we've not lost to date any time the enemy is relying on that weapon system. Its unglamorous and somewhat irritating as no rewards for being a mobile AA platform ... but its effective as long as you can position yourself in between the target and firer.

Pugging is another story of course but then any spotting/LRM combo is also down to the luck of the draw.

Now boosted NARC... bye bye targets.

the problem is not only the lrm imbalance

for my point the common problem with lrm boating is as well the ecm imbalance

if i enter a match and play vs 3-4 lrm boats in 90% of the cases my team has no ecm and the enemy has 2-3 ecm and THATS where you stand no chance of countering the lrm

i myself keep saying the matchmaker should take lrm and ecm into account
its very rare that a non ecm team without lrm wins vs a team with lrm and ecm

    my point

Honestly, posts like Thiak are why I picked up things like the SPD-5D and the KFX models, as well as my trusty CDA-3M. While I love taking out my Nova, Jenner, and Ember, it is definitely easier to survive as a whole when I'm running a ECM mech. At least then I know there will be one ECM on the team...

The issue for Ian is that he came here to escape world of tanks pugs lol. He drug me from tanks to this in the process and actully made me turn on the 6 months prem time I had built up from the founder and clan packagesI bought but never used.

WoT pugs are probably worse.
But really, we always welcome new members.
Try out a few of the tried and true builds, and jump in!
NEVER EVER use 3rd person mode, that is for shitheads that worth a million TK.

Wot Pugs used to be ok but its so bad now that I went from a Top tanker in the clan -G- to barely able to keep my Wn8 rank up. I dont like to platoon. I prefer to hunt solo in games unless its organized team play so when solo Pug becomes so bad i cant even get my damage in before the team dies I rage out.

What is funny is I do better solo Puging here in mechwarrior than I do if I group up with Ian. I normaly do 300 to 500 damage solo vs crap when with him lol. Or I do alot of kill assist and spotting solo even if my damage drops to 200. Its nice to just be able to die and not crap myself because it hurts my standing with my peers when they review my game stats for tournments or clan wars like in wot.

Same here. Whey you team up you will be batched with other team sometimes, and there is a chance you get teamed into the big group queue.

The biggest problem with LRMs is that they are not fun. Sure, 15-or-so LRM tubes to a mech is fine, and helps mic things up a but. And if a fair cross section of the team has a handful of tubes, you can really punish stragglers.

However, I feel like there should be a guidance (accuracy) penalty to firing an LRM storm.
