Hail, This is a tweaked version of the HBK-4G, DPS is a bit higher and I can throw out much Dakka (infact Double Dakka). http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=1&l=f595097910e80eec580d3ddfa7046d0c6736ae8f And this is my HBK-4SP that I have been running: http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=22&l=dc90e3ad2886958d63b5e3adacef627fd9f1e2ff Regards,
So I went with the 2PPCs, 2 small lasers and 5 med lasers ....my ability to "contribute" to the fight has more than doubled . I'm still kind of terrible but im having so much more fun! After reading all the responses I'm going to snatch up another Hunchie and start working towards mastery.

Dunno if I can bump this thread but I'm in the same situation and I didnt want to make another "what to get?" thread. Sorry if that's wrong ! Well, I'm grinding Elite variants on my Jennerceptor so maybe I'm not that new but I kinda suck and make noobish moves from time to time so whatever. I played a CTF-4x with 4x AC/2 on a friend's account, didnt like it, and that's it. I don't know if the other lights are worth it, wasting CB on an "under Jenner" (in terms of fun ofc) would be sad. So i looked around some builds on this site and both the Cent and the Cat interested me. But I saw that the former (and other medium mechs) were not so great atm and that LRM boats were outdated (and maybe it's super boring to just throw missiles?). Plus, after so much speed, I'm a little afraid of buying an assault (or even a cat, when some builds run at merely 50 kph...) So i don't really know. What are your advices ? I'm not bad at all with ballistics but circling / duelling lights is a little hard for me atm (especially getting full duration laser on a skinny 150kph running Spider etc). Thanks for your eventual advice and sorry for bumping / grammar errors, it's not my first language and my country is well known for it's bad english
Depends on how you play! Do you play as part or a team? Ravens are nice and you can get them close to the speed of a Jenner. Do you play as a PUGer? Perhaps a Cicada is more your style? Do you just want shits and giggles? Try a Spider! i play both pug and team matches and have worked on a great many chassis. I still enjoy my Jenner, Ravens, Cicada, Centurion mechs it all depends on what role I'm assigned.
9 medium laser hunchback 4P is awefully powerful..... stacking the most dmg to weight efficient weapon in the game ftw
Thanks for your answer Michael. I play exclusively pug because my friend don't like the game at all. The Cicada is better when playing solo ? I guess I'll give it a try. What is the purpose of a Cent ? Escorting an assault, protecting him from lights ? I don't feel like Cent are a threat when I play my Jenner. It would be sad to be both destroyed by a pack of raven. Lots of noob questions ^^
That is too bad. You will find an entirely different level of play, and fun, when playing with a regular group. You should look into it. I run my X5 and my 3M a lot in PUG matches. More my 3M as it has an ERPPC and allows me to fire from a relatively safe distance away where my X5 only has Medium Lasers and SRM4 and works better in a group. Depending on what you are tasked with. The Zombie Hugger CN9-A Centurion is a beast up close. Not as much since the SRM nerf but I still have nothing to fear from lights and they definitely run when I turn to face them. This machine just keeps on going and going and going. I've taken enormous punishment and kept on killing. Any light pack, but a flock of Ravens especially, is the bane of any PUG match right now. A 4 man group working together on TS3 and using lights is exceptionally efficient and makes beating them very difficult, if not impossible (depending on their individual and collective skills).
The X-5 Cicada is a great mech. It plays like a light with its speed and maneuverability, but it's got a little more space for gear as a medium. Plus it can mount more armor than a true light. The hero bonus of 30% C-bills helps finance your next mech too. I just picked up a Centurion CN9-A, it's got a good assortment of weapon hardpoints. The Zombie builds Michael mentioned are pretty awesome, the Centurion can take an impressive amount of damage for a medium, and with the right loadout it can dish it back too. I don't like my Centurion against lights, SRMs are hard to land against a skilled opponent and 2x MLas are hardly threatening compared to an energy Hunchback running 27x MLas or a Cicada that has the speed to keep up. I prefer to support assaults on my Centurion.
I know. I'll try to make them play. I find Medium lasers and srms really good even in PUG (that's what is on my jenner, with ssrms instead of srm but I played the JR7-K with srm4). I saw your 3M build, guess I'll give it a try. 1 ballistics and 4 energy could offer a lot of different builds too. Are the two other cent worth grinding xp too or just this one ? Same question for the Cicada too. Seems like I'll buy one of those two ! I hope BAP wil change this. Raven eat me alive So 4man team can play against full PUG ? Can't really afford the 3'000 MC right now but I'll take note when I'll buy some ! I find that countering lights is the deal right now. Everything can work against those unskilled assaul but even the worst player can do something on a Raven or another strong ssrms lights (If they don't stand still, that's it). Thanks for all those answers btw !
CN9-A is (was?) the only cent of interest on a competitive game, but it doesn't make the others only good to grind and sell (like ravens and spiders for example). I love the centurion, it might be the only mech I still play with all the variants, depending on my mood. There's a lot of variation between the variants, each one is specialised on something particular (ballistics and/or missiles for A, energy weapons for AL, speed or multiple ballistics for D, heavy ballistics for YLW), and the choice between STD or XL engine gives you a radically different gameplay. Diversity = more fun.
Exactly. So I bought a CN9-A, build the Zombie Hugger and it's already fun to play. Thanks for your advices guys !
