They should just name it de_factory or some simple shit like that, and drop the mining part of the name. "The Factory" - a simple name.
As always, Soy's logic is infallible. I bow to your proof that other maps are named poorly and this just continues with the trend.
I guess the mining collective is the owner: Makes sense to me. And until I see something aside from missiles and pain raining down in Tourmaline, it is a desert.
Next we should have a grassland map, and call it pony_surprise. Speaking of Desert, would be nice if we get a Desert_night. Easy to make for them PGI, and definitely cold.
I dunno Lokesh, I haven't studied gravel textures in game, usually spent time going pew pew pew. How about you, do you see any? Can you actually say for certain either way? More importantly, shale is 'typical'. There are exceptions... more in the future as well I'm sure when we, you know, explore other fucking planets across the galaxy. However. I can say for certain I don't remember seeing any coyotes or cacti or dunes or pyramids. So. Yeah pedantically speaking it's about precipitation, or lack thereof, right? But that's potentially the case for both types of areas we're talking, so. By the way, they are not mutually exclusive, they can be in same place, so this is basically a stupid tangent (that I initiated for my own amusement, nothing more) about as banal as the 'Mining Collective' one. Anyways... I do know that Badlands is a more apt description than a desert for Tourmaline. At least when it comes to flavor (which is what a map name is, need something snappy and memorable for gamer lingo - see 'Dust' CS, etc). But who fucking cares, Tourmaline Badlands sounds horrible. Get on my literal (literally literal) level, yall.
I was looking for an image that said "just play the game", but this was the best I could find: /closeenough...
Aside from discussing the name - which we can all agree is the most important aspect of the map - did anyone actually get to play it yesterday? I only got in a couple of games and got the usual suspects (River City Night several times - barf). Seems like they should increase the frequency the new map is drawn for a bit so that people get to play it more and experience the new content.
I did. Third map of the evening, lots of brawl and ambushes. SRM splatters galore. LRM boats need not bother really.
Anyone remember when Alpine came out and it was nothing but that map for like, 37 years. I think it was same with Tourmaline actually. Good eyeball-stab-inducing shit. PS - I also remember the last map to come out when I was still playing, I forget which one exactly, but I remember that I got it 2x in a row after logging in to play it, and instantly crashing on it, and then spending 2 hours just trying to get the map to come up in a round again. That was actually a sad experience.
Put in another dozen tries...still haven't seen it Apparently I am forbidden from setting foot there.
Strangely not had it solo but was getting in about 1 in 4 drops last night as a group. :uck of the draw I guess. Edit: Duh most of my solo drops were the 90 mins pre patch........
I've dropped on it about 4 times last night, and let me tell you, the pug train circle is still strong.
I've lost every match bar one on this map but part of that is that its wall to wall clan heavy and assault mechs currently with a handful of D-DC's spider 5D's, jenners and Stormcrows. My locusts weren't doing too well ... particularly after getting team killed twice last night when fighting other lights on that map. Had several matches in the group queue with 5 assaults a side or 5-6 heavies a side. Don't get me wrong we counted the numbers and both side had roughly the same number so I guess it was fair but with lance comms the teams just stayed together with overlapping fire lines and a 20 tonner is of marginal use. My artillery and UAV were appreciated at least....
