I have around 2,000 matches (all pug) under my belt and I've noticed I've been grouped with absolute shit players lately. The majority of my games the last week are stomps (with me usually being on the losing side).

Do I really suck and I'm put with my own kind? I don't think so considering I'm doing 400-500 dmg with 2 kills EVERY SINGLE game while I'm leveling cicadas and my teammates are mostly lucky to break 200 a piece and get 1 kill between the 7 of them.

It is definitely not fun and I'm sure as shit not growing in skill. It's like when I first started and the name of the game was 'blob or die'.

Edit: Only thing I can think of is that I'm new to the Medium chasis with only 130 games between 3 cents and 3 cicadas so i'm 'new'. Maybe I need to take a few days break and go back to heavies which I've piloted the most and done well in to see if i start seeing quality matches again... but so many of you are pointing this same issue out as well.

It is my understanding that ELO is per weight class so yes if you are new in Mediums, and have lost a few matches, then chances are you are with the dregs. Happens to me too when I step into a new class.

I hope that's it. I do have some fantastic builds to add to the site I've seen. My favorite being a 2-lbx10, 3-flamer Ilya that couldn't even put down my cored cicada while he was completely fresh before I killed him.

You know, that could actually be a decent subforum. If an analysis is included in a "Your movie sucks" review style it could be entertaining to veterans and informative to newbies. Explain why bad builds are bad can be just as educational as showing them good builds.

This is actually something that we are working on and will be providing to Benefactors. Stay tuned :)

I've only been playing for around a week but I thought I'd toss up my perspective for comparison.

I entirely PUG, everyone of my 120 matches thus far has been a solo queue. I have an overall 52/73 k/d (0.71) and a 48/72 W/L (also 0.71). I pilot two medium mechs exclusively, my X-5 and a Yen Lo-Wang.

My teams are terribad. The lack of skill of my teammates is what really seems to bone me. When I run my Cicada I'm a scout/support/flanker (with TAG). When I pilot my Wang I flank and support assaults with my AC20.
    Cicada
    Wang

In either of my mechs I rely on my heavier teammates to hold the line and dish out damage. I'm frequently disappointed. I see far too many Rambos, typically in a trial mech, get gunned down by the enemy firing line. The enemy firing line, that seems to consist of highly optimized ERPPC boats and 1-2 well-piloted ECM lights.

I've seen teammates with medium lasers try to win sniper duels at 800 meters...literally...just...stand there and duke it out with an enemy ERPPC boat that can actually hit them...

Yesterday during an assault match I saw a teammate in a trial Jagermech sneakily plod past the entire enemy team to try for a cap. By the time he reached the base, the enemy team was just starting to fan out and look for him; our entire team had been killed while only managing to down an enemy Cicada. A minute into his cap an enemy Jenner with red CT and orange LT and RT ran up to interrupt his cap. A minute after that the originally-unscratched Jagermech went down, I think he landed maybe 3 laser blasts and no AC hits during the "duel".

In most of my matches, I cannot make a difference in a medium mech. The people playing heavies and assaults are often too bad for me to make a difference during the match. Whatever my ELO is I'm sure it's bad, and so long as I solo queue mediums this will never change. Most of my matches are decided when the matchmaker forms the teams. Since I started recording match make-ups, teams with more assaults win something like 80% of the matches I play. ELO has no meaning at my play level.

Someday I'll hook up with some other players so I can really play the game meaningfully.

Think about doing something where maybe only benefactors can post and everyone else can see. Most of your benefactors are probably good at this game. Seeing why builds are terrible could benefit new/bad players too.

Hehe I think I might have been that jenner....... 1 on 1 lights can even take down atlas' in fact the bigger the easier.

However its not true that mediums can't make a difference, ive only solo dropped in my hunchbacks (and rubbish stock ones at that) and still managed to deal heavy damage and swing games round, if the heavies and lights are all noobs, likely your enemies are not much better organised, you can base camp till the lights come running round. Every mech has its place, and the way you need to play it.

Also don't think of the x5 as a medium, think of it as a heavily armoured heavily gunned light, seriously it gives most light pilots nightmares when an x5 catches us ....

Oh btw my kdr is 0.51 after 220 matches so I count as a way worse pilot that you......

( suspect that my kdr is skewed since my jenner-f stats are replicated as the trial jenner )

It's not that a medium can't make any difference (which is what I said, derp!). It's more that if your team's assaults are inept (or even disconnect on load) than you've got a pretty huge up-hill battle ahead of you.

I'm curious how all the ELO-magic goes on behind the scenes. How do they differentiate (or do they?) between a player like me who solo-queues medium frames like a crap-shoot, and another player who queues mediums in an organized lance? A pug'er could easily be a far better player than a team-player, but the stats will never recognize that. Here's to eventually separating solo and group queues!

Also, I just had the single greatest new-player match ever. Here's the stage, an enemy Spider, already missing an arm with most of his torso armor almost gone. Against him, a Highlander, a Cataphract, and a Stalker; the Cata and Stalker are both pretty heavily damaged from battle. The Highlander player is about the worst shot I've ever seen, and doesn't seem to realize that friendly fire exists, or that if he fires a shot and an ally is between him and his target that he'll hit his teammate.

Highlander rounds a corner, sees the Spider, stops. Takes aim, misses with his Gauss and takes out a leg from his teammate Cata with an 3x SRM-Artemis salvo from 200m out. His next Gauss rifle hits home, hitting the back and setting off an ammunition explosion in his teammate Stalker. His 2nd SRM salvo misses, but his third salvo flies as if guided by angels, into the center torso of the Cata. Finally, all his teammates killed by poorly aimed fire, the Highlander finally manages to land enough medium laser hits to kill the spider.

My team won this match btw.

well, since I bitched earlier, I must say tonight's play has been reasonably good. Not too many stomps, reasonably even w/l... I die when I make a mistake, I do good dmg/kills when I play smart...

maybe during the week, there just aren't enough players and elo is having to grab from too broad a base; this Friday night was pretty solid.

In my experience the mechs which make most of the time some impact are assaults and lights.
The rest of the mechclasses are just fillers.

Where are you from? If you're from Europe, we might be able to do soe drops together during an evening so that we can show you the power of a medium pack.

Personally, I feel you can carry a team the best on heavies and assaults. Even when you team is doing things horrifically wrong (staring at the enemy team while getting poptarted to death) a heavy or assault can make a major difference. Poorly played lights can lose you the game, but they also have a much more difficult time carrying a bad team.

A well played mech of any class can make a difference, but certain mechs just carry better than others.

I'm from the US, I play late, usually around 10pm-3am EST (so around 4am-9am Europe) lol. My name in game is the same as it is here: "YaoYaoYiffy"; best, worst inside-joke name ever. I'm probably up for a game whenever I'm online and I've got TS and Vent.
