Watching the Twitch stream they mentioned two new heroes dropping next Tuesday. One is a Shadowhawk hero, the other a locust with ECM! As I am on my iPod it is difficult to link or paste right now, but I will say it is 4E/2B with slas and ac2 perks, max 190 engine. Awwwww yeah.
I can neither confirm or deny that this is true, but here is the reddit link. http://www.reddit.com/r/mwo/comments/2lxlsv/hero_locust_and_shadowhawk_details_uformer/ Given to us by a user data mining the test server.
AC2 would be too heavy for a LCT. I suggest (4x ML, ECM, XL190) or (4x SL, 2x MG, ECM, XL190) As for the Hawk... (1x AC10, 2x SRM4, 4x ML, 1-3x JJ, XL280-300), or (1x AC5, 2x SRM4, 2x LL, 2x ML, 1x JJ, XL280) AC10 seems nice. Maybe LBX10 is better for this?
The quirks are a joke. Not enough hard points to justify Small Laser quirks. AC2 rank quirk!? Man, if those really are the quirks they need to SERIOUSLY reconsider. Every locust needs to be thought greatly about and they obviously didn't with this one. Should be Medium laser quirks and machine gun range because that will be one of the only effective builds. Medium lasers for enough range to make use of the ECM effectively. AC2s require long exposure and it is pointless on a locust. Absolutely disgusting.
Both pretty sad . . . Locust hardpoints aren't too bad, except that MGs require getting too close for ECM to be worth it, and there's obviously no other viable use for ballistics on a 'Mech that size. Otherwise though, and disregarding the sad quirks (if the announcement was correct on that point), it looks "ok". But nothing more. There are other Locusts with better hardpoints. *shrug* And the Shadowhawk? I really don't know . . . That head-missile is pretty much useless for anything other than an SRM4 (I would never put Streaks or LRM5s on this with only 2 hardpoints anyway). So for missiles, it's going to be maximum 1x4+1x6 (without Artemis due to component locations), or more likely just 2x4. The single ballistic means at least an AC10/LB10, in my opinion, as anything less (a MG, AC2, AC5, or UAC5) always seem out of place and underwhelming alone. So you might run an AC10/LB10 with a pair of SRM4s and 4 MLasers, as Enileph suggests. This would be OK, I think. But the thing is, this 'Mech is specifically designed to be more Energy focused than any other Shadowhawk . . . so it seems wrong (to my mind at least) NOT to make proper use of those Energy hardpoints. Here are some thoughts on how I MIGHT run it, IF I bought it . . . (4xLLaser) Add the 4th LLaser to the Right Arm, and you have a decent Medium Class Laser-boat. One downside with this particular setup though, no JJs. Maybe not necessary for a Laser-boat like this, but it'd still be nice to fit them; sad part is it would mean dropping Engine-Size and DHS. -OR- (2xLLaser, 2xMLaser, 2xSRM4) (Swap the AC10 ammo for 2xMLasers, and the AC5 ammo for the 4th JJ.) Here you have a nice close- to mid-range skirmisher, with LLasers for range, SRMs for extra punch up close, and MLasers just because. Essentially, it's a 2K with arm mounts; sad part is, I think I'd still prefer the 2K's high shoulder-mounts. So yeah, this was a pretty disappointing announcement for me, as they didn't give me at all what I was hoping for in a Shadowhawk Hero. Honestly, I prefer the Griffin "Sparky" to this . . .
Hmmm, maybe switch out the half ton of AC2 ammo for another SLas? You could also go down to an XL145 to save another 0.5 tons, but that would require going back to SHS. Yeap, that AC2 quirk is basically useless.
I laughed oh how I laughed. A quirkless Shadowhawk I have to pay real money for with one of the worst paint jobs they've ever done (wonder why I barely see any SHD's since the quirks....) and a ECM locust with a bad AC2 quirk. Just after they invalidate ECM with the Beagle buff...... Blatantly the only reason they will sell is to completionists and lore junkies.
Wasn't expecting much, but these are just meh. The SHD is probably good enough to invalidate the Flame even more, though, but that's about it. Maybe if there's a 50% sale somewhere in the future. The Locust ist interedting somehow, but the AC2 quirks are painful to see. Like with some of the quirks on other chassis this makes me wonder if they're really thinking about what they're doing. Also, I can only second Rem about his experience regarding SHDs atm. Why should I take one of them instead of a Wolverine or Griffin where I get a nice bonus on my SRMs ( which seem to be the best weapon by far on an agile Medium atm)?
The only thing justifying the AC/2 is that you're tiny, invisible and have a weapon that doesn't give away your position with pinpoint accuracy. Not taking out a mech with a total of 200 dmg potential though.
I think it is meant to use the half bonus as ML, it is a way to nerf it a bit for the ECM without saying. But srsly you get better firepower and heat with 4x ML and DHS than running 4x SL (+MG) with SHS even with the bonus That said, 4xML and ECM is not bad... think of it as a ECM TDK (with 1x MG or AMS).
Problem is the locust already lost a quirk to compensate for the ability to mount ECM. Odd thing is that its considered a tier 4 not 5 mech: AC/2 Range: +20% Ballistic Range: +10% Small Laser Range: +20% Energy Range: +10% Small Laser Cooldown +20% Energy Cooldown: +10% Can't really see how it competes even with the SL quirked Locust. Anyway less complaining ... with 6 tons of payload to play with I'll probably go 4 SL, 2 MG+1.5t ammo and ECM. If the other Locusts weren't massively quirked that wouldn't be too bad.
I was thinking of this a few days ago. I really REALLY hope they did this LOL. Would be fantastic! Hate what he is doing tbh, but it does spark discussions and hype, regardless if it is accurate.
According to Michaels thread (https://www.mechspecs.com/threads/locust-and-shadowhawk-hero-in-the-pipeline.7609/#post-56423) its: Left Torso: 2 Energy, 1 ECM Center Torso: 2 Ballistic Right Torso: 2 Energy, 1 AMS
Considering Michael simply copy/paste from the reddit thread, I must have misread or accidentally looked at the shadow hawk for the energy locations. Honestly, considering these look like the WORST hero mechs to-date in terms of hardpoints and quirks, I'm really beginning to believe what Cattra suggests.
Thanks Cattra, it'd be hilarious if they did that. I never believe anything until it is released (on general principle) since there are so many changes and iterations. Why get worked up about rumors? In all honesty, I hadn't considered it since i just read the thread here but still funny if they did.
