I nerver really though about meds. This things are for flanking, circling a slow mech for me. Maybe i still have some stereotypes from WoT. I'll have a look when i'll finish what i'm currently on. I'm on the K2 (double gauss) and i'm going on my jester for Epikt's 6 med pulse. I still wonder what i'll do with the C1. I have lots of fun removing arms/side torsos from assaults with the dual guass, really feels like a precision tool designed to remove the annoying stuff and i like that.
All medium mechs will be an exercise in patience and learning, especially if you are used to Heavy and Assault chassis. Some mediums such as the Shadowhawk, Nova, and Stormcrow are nasty infighters, capable of doing damage. Others, like the Cicada, are better at hit-and-run tactics and ECM usage (specifically the Cicada 3M, the best variant of that chassis utility-wise). The trick is learning what the strong points of each particular chassis is. However, the problem with mediums is that they are in an uncomfortable middle area, and a few models suffer horribly from this - for instance, while they have their fans, you will notice Wolverines and Quickdraws are less common than Cicadas, Shadowhawks, and Griffons, all of which have particular niches in which they excel. That's not to say that the less popular models are bad, more that they tend to be outclassed by other mechs. You're also going to be making a tradeoff: all medium mechs trade away both power and armor, but pick up some speed as a result. While you can make some nasty variants of medium mech, even the strongest one is going to have less armament than most heavies, and will not be able to survive focus fire for very long. Since mediums (with the exception of the Cicada) can't compete with the speed of Inner Sphere lights, that means you have to completely alter your playstyle in order to compensate. Mediums operate best when used in a fire support capacity, though many are also strong Light Mech Hunters as well. The Shadowhawk also can work well as a Poptart mech (the trial Shadowhawk currently playable is outfit in the Poptart build too, 1 PPC and 2 AC5) which can work nicely if you're good at it. The moral of the story, however, is that you must adjust your play style to the mech and weight class. It's very easy to put a powerful loadout on a medium, then get completely torn apart when you take it into a fight because you piloted it like a heavy mech, so be cautious at first, and don't let a few bad games sour you towards a chassis.
I sign this part. I would recomend also the Hunchback family and the Spider-ECM. Both are quite funny to play. Im a big fan of knife-range mechs, sometimes sorta suicidal ones, and so far i can say u this: [size=14pt]BUY ALL SHADOW HAWKs!!! U wont regret it. They are versatile, fast and have an amazing amount of hardpoints placed around the mech. They have basically the fail-proof written in them
I love it, i'm running XL255, dual gauss, dual med, 6 tons of ammo Barely not using the med laz, i'm shooting at around 500- meters and focusing on dangerous targets. But i can shoot lights on the fly and OS them. I'm focusing on CTs/ arms on Direwhales. And i try to act as a finisher or a "cripler" on dangerous stuff. You need to calculate when and where you want to shoot with the gauss, but when you're used to games with slow projectiles and high bullet drop it's not a matter. And i'm barerly not using my adv zoom module. And i have another question, wich atlas variants should i get since i have the Founder (D) one. The boar's head worth or not ? Since this one has almost all his weapons in the arms. I know the D-DC is a no brainer choice, but still wondering on wich is the third one i should pick.
Don't have a Boar's Head, but they seem pretty bad. Just pick up the DDC and anything else to suffer through getting efficiencies unlocked, then sell the other off
The K is borderline useless. Double AMS on an atlas doesn't really do much for you. I would say get the RS, it's very similar to the D, but not much to choose from. The Boar's Head is ok, but it's not considered a serious mech.... now if it had JJs, we would be having a different discussion. The one advantage that the BH has, is that it is more unique compared to the other atlas models...
D is your founder, so keep it and level it. D-DC is obvious, must get. K type is not worth it. You have better choice for 2x AMS, DO NOT BUY. That leave us RS or Piggy Head. Difference is 2 extra Energy Hardpoint at the hand (Piggy) vs ONE extra 6 tube Missile Hardpoint (RS). They are similar really, for Piggy you will probably put a pair of ML in the extra slot anyways, and for RS an extra SRM4/6. RS is cheaper and can be done in cbills! Also you get more body weapon so it is less egg in one basket. The piggy does have better range with all those energy though, and a kick ass paintjob. Oh, RS have TWO mech module while Piggy only have ONE. Extra weapon module of Piggy would not help much really.
I personally hate my Boar's Head. Never play it. The arm energy weapons are mounted so low that you have a hard time hitting anything but dirt. That's generally a problem with atlases though which is why I try and mount the best weapons on the torso. Boar's Head is not worth the money and was tedious to elite. I really only play the D-DC now. I would go with the RS (I got the D when I was eliting mine). If all else fails and you hate the thing you can put two LRM's in the torso, get it through elite, and then sell it.
Can someone tell me if the summoner worth me to upgrade from my nova collection to the direwhale collection ? I'm only convinced that the extra 10 bucks worth me to take this mech with the dire (20$ worth of premium time).
It will be avalible for MCs the next week, and for CBills in September. Balance if its worth for you http://mwomercs.com/news/2014/05/865-clan-mech-release-schedule
Haw gawd, you guys were right with the Shadow Hawk. I run with XL engine 2x AC5 and SRM8, first game saw me kill two guys with 450 damage.
Ditto on the grats. The Shadowhawk is, for many people, one of the most underestimated mechs on the field...either they load in a fast and speedy light and expect to outmaneuver it (I made that mistake plenty of times until I learned better), or in a slow stomping heavy/assault that they expect will dissolve it in one alpha. And perhaps they could, if it was played poorly, but the SHD is a versatile enough mech that a good pilot will create openings. 450 in your first match is a hell of a lot better than I did in my SHD at first too, so good jorb
[member=5002]Exentius[/member] All them are good in approx the same level, cause except a couple builds, related to the weapon hardpoints in head and center torso, most of the other builds can move from one to other variant. I would go like this with it, but u can refine it a lot. http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=112&l=5194b8d35473090b04500391892469f3f70bdc8f Or this http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=112&l=3dbbfd6229f7251818736268300909b0454ccebc And this definitively worth to pay a look http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=112&l=9d36f0395394cefbf3d5ee059ed7f4aa94016add
