I think i narrowed down my selection between a Cicada and a Kintaro. But wanted to ask you guys which one to go with next for some fun. I am finishing up with a Cataphract and want to have something with more speed and oomph. The Centurion is the usual one to go with, so i am considering it for zombie builds. Thoughts?
Kintaro is just a faster CENT-9AL IMHO. If you want something completely different, the Cicada CAN be a good sniper, or a good brawler.
If you like Streaks or LRMs then go for the Kintaro, though you need to load an large XL Engine to make them fast. The Cicadas are much cheaper and the obligatory 3M already includes an XL320, which you can use on all Cicadas. But brawling with Cicadas is a pain because they die too fast.
I can't think of any situation where I would take a Cicada over either a true light mech or a battle worthy medium. The 3M is the only viable Cicada in my opinion because of the ECM. However, with ECM, I'd rather have a smaller mech which is also more visually stealthy. Once again, no reason in my mind to run a Cicada over a faster and smaller light or a more battle worthy medium. Yes, they are faster than other mediums... However, still the same speed as a Jenner with most variants carrying similar load-outs and are a much larger target WITHOUT Jump Jets... Ugh. Give me my Jenners and Spiders for speed and my Cents, Jacks, Taros and Hawks for power.
My suggestion: BJ: I love BJs! Good for ballistics, you can even carry a single AC20. Also energy model that is fast with 8 energy. Cents: For zombie, survival and brawling. REALLY hard to kill. Cicada: 3M is ok for a stealth sniper, rest is just fattened lights that cannot jump. Hunchback: Why? Most things you can do better in a Shadowhawk now. They can zombie though. Kintaro: Streaks, and SRM, 'nuff said. Especially streaks. ShadowHawk: THE new workhorse with JJ. Trebuchet: They are ok. Sort of a jack of all trades. Then again... shadowhawk.
Cicada only with ECM viable BJ with AC20 is fun but can die very fast. Jumpsniper & Laserboating is more practical. Cent-Zombie with Triple SRM6 is superstrong, Rest ok but inferior Hunchback is very powerful firesupporter (AC20 or 9MLas)but loses its firepower too fast in brawls Trebuchet is good for Laserboating & Missiles, 7K can AC20! Kintaro can Penta.Streaks! Shadowhawk is most Sexy, but is somekind an Allrounder, can AC20, can Quad.Streaks, can Zombie, can jump a little, not so good Energy.Hardpoints Upcoming: Griffin can fly and somekind a Quickdraw Wolverine = Cent with Jumpjets!
I am saving up for the Wolverine. I always liked this Mech in TT, and I think it also looks good in MWO.
Are the Phoenix/Sabre mechs even available if you didn't buy the package ? It's rather pointless to make a sales pitch for mechs that can't be bought.
The sabre and phoenix will be available eventually per the release schedule. The pack buyers got a special version of one of them (and early access plus a heap of other things but that's beside the point). Next mech due is the Shadowhawk since the Locust was out last month with the release.
They will be available next months: shadowhawk in November, thunderbolt in December, battlemaster in January and griffin and wolverine in February and march (don't remember which comes first).

[/quote] Two very good summaries. SHDs indeed seem to be taking over a lot of roles Mediums were used to be assigned to. Cents, Hunchies and KTOs are still quite common, but Trebs are rarely seen nowadays, at least that's my gut feeling. Note that the hardpoints on both the GRF's and the WVR's variants can only be a guess at the moment. With the SHD's success a lot of people seem to be thinking about getting the Sabre Package now (me included, although I somehow don't like the Griffin). My Favorite games have been in a double or triple ERLLas Kintaro with the biggest engine I can fit in her. KTO-20 XL360, 2x ERLLas, 1x MLas KTO-19 XL315, 3x ERLLas Fast, fun, annoying as hell for your enemy. Being able to harass from a distance with Adv. Zoom and have the speed to chase down lights makes it a versatile platform, especially when you can also run any of them with Streaks like everyone else does.
What do you have now, what are your favorites and why? That'd probably help us narrow it down. If you like the Hunchback, I recommend getting the Shadowhawk when it drops. I hate to put it this way, but it's basically a Hunchback with JJ and better hitboxes.
Im leaning towards Kintaros now. For two reason, I have seen some nice vids of them being streaker boats, and it looks like fun. I have my spider 5D which still wrecks havoc on others (did around 450 damage and 3 kills over the weekend) and i was hoping the Cicada could give me that level of fun. I know i will go for the jenner, but probably at a later date. (the Jenner is a must chassis) My actual goal is just to try other mechs. I haven't had a single medium mech for now. The centurion is the zombie king here, so that's why i'm thinking about him. I also dont play that much, so im trying not to waist that much money. DHS are nice and all, but any energy build really requires them, where as ammo builds, dont need them as much. That's one reason that im skeptical about BJs, they really need the DHS to make them effective. The costs, to master a Centurion, i would need at least 15Mil (approximately) to master a Kintaro, I would need 13Mil (approximately). 2 Mil is 20 winning games typically. And I feel lucky if I have time to play a few games for the double XP on a daily basis.
I'm considering one of the super mediums, 55 tonners, as my next mech. Right now I'm leaning towards the Kintaro's because gameplay wise they're close to my Catapults. If they jumped it'd seal the deal for me. The Shadowhawks are tempting just because they jump. Got lucky y'all happened to be talking about this right now.
DHS is a must anyways for most of the above options. So you will just have to suck it up and buy the upgrade. Cicada is... well it is a mech you can worry about later. Currently it is not doing well, and with the ghostheat nerf you cannot even do the cheesy triple/quad PPC glasscannon. 3M is good with ECM (and yes you can fire and brimstone this as well, so this one does everything), the rest are just oversized jenners without JJ (5/6 energy slots respectively). The other one has 4x ballistic and 1x energy, but low tonnage means ballistic is of limited use, sort of like a Raven). X5 is really fun, but it is also jenner-like and is a Hero. Centurion... it is great but they have some priceing problem. CN9-A is cheap and WONDERUL zombie. CN9-AL is less of that... It is an ok energy mech I guess, but nothing too attractive about it. CN9-D is FAST but expensive, hence the priceing problem. Although If you want an XL you might be ok with that (you do not want to put XL in a cent usually though). YLW is an acquired taste, so to speak, and it is hero which means MC. With only 3 normal variants and one hero, you will have to either shell out for the YLW in MC, or the huge sum of cbills for CN9-D. Them shadowhawks are available this month soon, and they are worth it. Each model have all three types of hardpoints, although it is true that energy is not their strength... 2D2 can do 2x LLas ok, but that's about it. It is really strong with SRM/Streaks (4x missile hardpoints) and.or Ballistics, while being able to jump and zombie (head and body missile hardpoints). Kintaro is nice over all models, except the Hero that is a bit inferior due to the nerfed engine size. They are GREAT with streaks, esp the KTO-18 which is WONDERFUL with 5x streaks (we are doing min/max here, it is GREAT to have a cheese build). They are also good with LLas and SRM. They are fast and nimble. They do not have any ballistic options however, and no JJ.
