    I do remember those.

Another feature that would be useful is that when one member of the team has scanned the target info of an opponent, at least the Mech type is visible for the rest of the game (Either on the Battle Map(B) or the player list (Tab).
Scouts could have one more job to perform.
    But thats a little Off-Topic...

    Just lt everyone talk.
Seriously if you apply restrictions on it and we are forced to hear some 12 year old pieces of shit yelling as lance commander or soemthing I would just perma mute the feature. Allowing everyone to talk then at least we can tell him to stfu (and probably mute him) while we can chill out ant talk with more reasonable folks.

Trying to restrict communitations does not really work too well, since everyone with half a brain knows how to get on ts3 or something. Mind as well let everyone talk, and allow us to mute people on the "tab" or "b" screen.

I'll agree it's a bad idea, but it made me think of the best thing I ever saw in another game, Planetside 2. There was a player, MC Squirrelz, who did nothing in combat: no firing, no killing, nothing. His shtick was to spawn an ATV, turn on his Local Area VOIP, and ride around playing music from his local Mexican radio station. There was nothing, and I mean nothing, more hilarious than being midway through a firefight, and hearing that music come fading in from the distance...getting louder, and louder, before finally fading away.

The other teams tried not to shoot him, ever. He was like an unofficial mascot for the absurd. ;) They eventually banned him for "playing copywritten materials over VOIP" though :(

I see your point. However, public drops are different than 12-mans (of any sort) as well as communicating with any friends you are playing with (most likely a 4-man group). I for one will still be using TS because it has a lot of advantages of what I can choose to do. For in-game voip it is different. A dead player (even one in TS) has the potential to whine and rage when they are killed. These are these people you learn not to play with or to ignore in TS. In-game voip doesn't give you the choice. You might be teamed up with a really good player who communicates well, but when that player dies he will immediately complain, rage, or discuss game balance issues and his opinions instead of concentrate on the game and aid their team. There might be multiple people dead and he starts a conversation with one of the other dead players. You don't want/know to mute him because he was a good player while alive, but as soon as he dies he needs to get muted.

IMO the advantages of being able to speak when your mech is destroyed do not outweigh the potential issues. You can still provide feedback to your team via text chat, or you can use TS with a more disciplined group.

We have to keep in mind that those who frequently use TS are NOT the majority and the majority of players can be assumed to not have the best voip discipline or etiquette. We cannot compare how things work for units or individuals finding groups in TS. We go out of our way to utilize 3rd party voip because we recognize the advantage and have similar interests to do well.

auto-muting dead players could be an setting option maybe? With a default to off? That would allow the player some choice in the matter.

Personally I think the following should be included in a public test, elements can be removed after feedback if they are unnecessary or data shows they are not being utilized: Lance-only channel, Team-only channel, Dead Player Auto Mute on/off.

I'd also like to clarify that I'd much rather see other content being worked on and I would always prefer to use TS and turn of in-game voip. But we have to think of good ways a voip can be added, without bias, for the typical player.

I'm in the same boat as Solahma. My friends on TS are going to be useful. Last thing I need from a random dead PuGgie is him/her screaming in my ear about how I suck and how I'm going to lose the match for us, etc... etc... etc... when I am in a high stress, trying to win the damn game situation.

I would be more than happy to use the advantage of people ghosting behind my other teammates telling me where the enemy is.
    It does help.
As for pilot ejecting when mech is destroyed, this is a joke in MWO cause everyone is sitting on a ton of MAS ammo... Then again it is STUPID not to put it there, you die when you get crit in the HD, ammo or no ammo. Go back to tabletop if you want to roleplay.

Will technically, it is better that you die in a mech than eject... even if you survive you become a dispossessed, basically a useless lowlife that is waste of resources (barring a few heros)

The suggestion isn't even because of role-playing, it's because of all the mad individuals out there that would only whine and qq after they die. The same people who complain in text chat, but now it will be easier to voice your opinion. No one still playing a match wants that forced on them.

Again, dead players helping by spectating and adding input can still be done via text, just not voice. Personally I dislike even reading suggestions from dead team-mates because 75% of the time (at least) it is not useful or BAD information.

As far as voice communication goes, it is most useful while the player is still alive and has the direct ability to influence the game. Commanding from the side-lines can be confusing, useless, and annoying.

That is also true, keep the dead people chat in text, but mute dead VOIP by default. Dead people should be able to talk to the dead though.

Not often I would disagree with you Michael, but in this I strongly do. In my opinion this game should never have been released without working voice chat. At this point it would still make a huge impact in being able to get some co-ordination in a PUG drop, and that alone would be worth it in my opinion.

I play other games that have voice chat built in, and have no problem with it at all. To date in DDO I don't even have anyone squelched, which is an available option. Being in a group and being able to quickly say "I've got that" "I'm heading to X,Y" "X mechs heading in from X,Y" is huge.

Problem is the only time I've ever actively and long term used an in game voip system was in Planetside 2. It worked well and never heard any abuse etc. I've actively avoided it in every other game. Look at my most played game in Eve Online which has an inbuilt voip system.... never use it. EQ2... never use it. o_O

I can run through games and there's a common theme. In every other game I've played, except PS2, it was a literal waste of resources for the maker that could be used elsewhere.

I see why it could be useful but definitely don't think its something that's critical.

Except mysteriously I never lose the 104 mastered mechs I have and always survive.... even when head shot. ;)

But then I've never been tempted to write myself a background and pretend I'm a character in MWO rather than just being a player.

Wow, that would be like writing backgrounds for paranoia characters on a tabletop rpg.
