MechSpecs Moving to a VPS Soon. Want to help out?

I take it we reached the VPS 420 goal, as it no longer appears on the Donations page.

 

We are at 92% of it and since the host was like "Ummm fix this, now" I went ahead and started the process and just put it on my credit card. I will pay myself back from the Paypal to avoid interest charges.

I'm getting all the installs done now so that it will be a seamless move. The site MAY be done for 2-5 hours but I will try and do that at night time before I move the DNS servers over.

 

There we are ... officially over the goal as of now.

...though for some reason I am seeing ads again.

 

It added a secondary Benefactors group tag to your account which then allows you to see ads again. I've since removed it and will close the VPS fund when I get home in a bit.

Thank you to everyone who donated. I've already got the VPS set up just have to move the site over which should happen within the next day or two. It's even scalable with "burst ram" and cool thingies like that. Like adding TSM to your mech!

So we've been running on the new server now for a couple of weeks. How is everyone finding it?

There have been zero interruptions and I believe I have everything installed correctly and the migration went off without a hitch. We were down for maybe an hour (which was in the middle of the night) so ZERO data was lost.

I'm getting better at this kinda stuff!!!! It is weird having more control over a server AND having to reboot it manually if it goes down. I opted to pay a little extra though for a MANAGED VPS so that I don't have to wake up in the middle of the night and reboot the server if it goes down or back things up. It is all handled automatically. I am lazy and didn't want to pass the cost along to you guys so don't worry about it!

Just wanna make sure everything is up and running properly for all involved.

It's working well for me. I hadn't heard anything about it, so I didn't know if we had moved over yet.

 

Oddly enough they target what you have been searching for, or using, on Google. Just sayin

I get SW:TOR, F2P games, web development and hosting sites and things of that nature. Occasionally hooked in with dating sites.

 

Ads have a "historical frequency" rating attached to them. This, I think, means that the marketing department for various games can say "Ok, we are launching our campaign now and we would like the peak to be on launch day" so you have a sliding scale up to launch day and then a sliding scale down after launch date based upon what their advertising budget is.

I was getting MWO banners a LOT over a few days and then they started to subside. Now I am getting all kinds of different banners for games like DEFIANCE and some sexy "hottest game on the web now" type banners (shrugs).

Still, visiting these sponsors helps out the site and helps put a little coin in my pocket for Xmas without actually costing you guys a dime and you get all kinds of good products and information (are my eyes rolling yet?)

 

I used to get MWO a lot, but now it seems all I'm getting is SW:TOR banners with the occasional dating/business add thrown in.

 

I clear my cookies and cache now and then and that fixes the monotony.
