The OFFICIAL MW:O site may not allow you to use your custom unit avatars (yet) but MechSpecs will. If you have a unit crest that is well designed and some thought was put in to it I'm willing to work with you to make it an avatar here on MechSpecs so that both you, and your unit mates, can show your pride.

In order to do this you need at least 3 active unit members using MechSpecs. By active I mean they must be actively posting here. If they aren't then they don't count. Ghost uniforms don't count.

Take a look at my avatar to the left and you will see what exactly I mean in regards to custom avatars. You will also notice that some other units have them installed; I can do the same for you.

Truth be told; Aedon is trying to convince me to allow people to upload their OWN avatars in the new design instead of using preformatted ones like we have now. This is under discussion in intense battles where Morgana has had to throw cold water on both of us to prevent either of us going nuclear.

Actually, it IS under discussion LOL but not heated.

 

Having been a teenager who played Half-Life (and mods) with custom spray-tags, I can understand the hesitation.

 

As far as unit tags go I am fine with the system as it is now. If a whole unit becomes active here and supports the forums then allow them to have an avatar. I see a few that do not have their unit avatar but are using their units signature which is equally representative IMO. If you are going to allow anyone to upload their avatars then may I offer a potential happy median in suggesting that anyone can upload any avatar and within 24-72 hours when a moderator has had a chance to review your vile pornography filled avatar and reject it you can enjoy reading the e-mail Mechspecs.com sent you about your inappropriate avatar and how you are invited to try again in the future as the moderator found the porn to be an unacceptable offering. The downside is whether you allow anyone to upload any avatar for review or straight to use you are going to be increasing the work load on moderators in one form or another.

 

This is the only way I would allow something like this to happen and Aedon agrees. While we allow a certain amount of linguistic freedoms on MechSpecs we don't want 5000 penis avatars doing unspeakable things to unmentionable lifeforms. Ya know?
