I love matches when you end up pairing with people on a killing spree and you just work off each other. :D

Hilarious last man standing this evening: four or five mechs versus a legged timberwolf, it's usually piece of cake... except no one had ammo and no one had backup weapon
Instead of retreating behind our turrets they tried to ram and/or DFA it. It did not work.

    ROFL!

That's why I make it a rule NEVER to bring a 'Mech without an Energy-Weapon, except a few notable exceptions (like the Catapult-A1) that simply can't bring one. You just never know when running out of ammo could be a deadly game-breaker. ;)

Thoroughly agree. though my CTF-4x might disagree and I've run out of ammo a couple of times then just acted as a distraction/armour/capper.

Actually, I did mean the small laser, whether Clan or IS, as there was discussion about it and it's usefulness.
    And here's the niche application.

But, IMHO, a Med Laser is always a better choice, and no ballisitc Mech should leave home without one.

Small laser would be a compromise if you have the slots to spare, as you'd have to sacrifice only a half ton of ammo.

Yeah usually the problem on clan mechs is space not weight I find though so 1 ton for 1 slot seems infinitely preferable. :D

Well, this isn't my story, but I thought I would share it anyways. Things were looking dire as we lost almost everyone in a huge brawl and when the dust settled we were left with 1 mech to the enemy's 5. I took a screenshot since after seeing we were left with the little mech that could, I felt that something interesting could happen, and I wasn't disappointed.

So Aggressor666 hightailed it out of there in his RVN-3L, and headed back to our base, and surprisingly, they followed. As they slowly came in, he nearly cored the Griffin and Hunchback. The turrets finished off the Hunchy, and slowly stripped away the armor from the remaining 4 enemies, which the Raven methodically carved up with his dual ERLLas while darting from cover to cover.

Actually, come to think of it, I have my own last man standing victory. Pretty similar really, except instead of fighting, I ran away like a pussy and won on points:

Well, not really sure how this happened. The enemy team decided to collectively ignore the mech that was carving up their team til the end. It ended up being a their last 3 vs. me and another guy who quickly died. I did a quick poke around a corner and killed one of them, then retreated a bit. They had a Spider and Orion left. None of us were in good shape at this point. The Spider was harassing me but I clipped his leg while the Orion was trying to core out my back. Heat was an issue for me at this point, so I fired double CLPLs at the Spider hoping it would be enough, and sure enough, he went down. I was probably at 80% heat at this point, I did a quick spin and fired 5xcERMLs at the Orion's CT knowing I was going to overheat, but figured I had maybe a 60-70% chance of coring him out, which turns out to be what happened.

Caustic Valley.... me, I was a Direwhale... which is a pain in the ass because I'm a lightpilot thru and thru. Why takin the Dire for a walk then, u ask? Well because i have 90+ Mechs in my bays and I want them all mastered, that's why.

So there I was... feeling like everything I do is slomo while everything around me was lightyears away and movin'.
Well... you have two options on how to die in a Direwolf.
In most PUG's you get separated form the rest and serve as dinner for enemy lights or generally fast units that spotted you. Or.. you are the instant prime, just because you are a powerful Direwol, thus a major threat.

In my case, lucky me, I had a third option.... overheating. Having 4 ERPPC's is already bad in terms of heat buildup, but mixing them with 2LRM20 and dropping on a hot map w/o a coolshot is even worse.

I stayed out of the man fight, shooting some PPC's when a target appeared but mostly providing firesupport with the LRM's, so I could keep the temperature low until a dogfight was inevitable.
Then my teammates started to fall quickly. We were down to 3 man (a legged Jenner, a slightly damaged Jagermech, and myself, also hurting (one of my side torsos was blinking red), the enemy still had 6 operative Mechs.

The Jagermech went over a ridge line, all by himself.... I thought.. "whatever, at least now I have some locks I can fire my remaining missles at. We lost this anyway." So I locked ,fired, and killed one before the Jagermech got another and died himself. We still had 4 to go. The Jenner was hiding behind me, poor little legged bastard, as we were awaiting the final push.... but nothing happened.
I decided to move close to the ridge and launched my UAV. There they were, waiting....
A completely green Raven, a fairly damaged LRM-Battlemaster, an AC20-BJ and half a Cataphract.
As I released my tubes on the Cataphract... and took it's other half with one volley (ammo explosion?), they started to move towards us. Not noticing the UAV I continued firing my LRM's on the BJ. At the time he arrived the ridge he was already missing his AC20.... my PPC's took the rest off him.
The (brave but legged) Jenner tried to keep the Raven busy as she came over the caldera. So I concentrated on the Battlemaster. Seemingly he had no more ammo left, and wanted to finish me off with his 4 meds, relying on hitting my sidetorso... which he didn't. He kept hitting my legs instead. I'm I nice guy... so I teached him how to aim at a side torso by removing his... and blowing him up as well... (gotta love XL-Engines on IS-assaults). There we were... one Raven vs us two. Things were good again. Then the Jenner died... a heroes death by the way... because if he had not egaged the Raven, I wouldn't have a chance at all.
The Raven kept avoiding me by running up and down the caldera ridge... and I was prone to overheating due to my PPC abuse in the last 1-2 minutes, and I had already used my coolshot.
My torso was still blinking red as well as one of my legs.... I was already making deals with my maker.
Than it happened... the Raven strafed again, I decided to fire all PPC's at once and......
took one of her legs before I finally overheated. Maybe the Pilot was shocked, maybe he thought my blowing up was imminent.. I dunno, but he didn't fire at me. (At least he didn't hit me while I was shut down.) We exchanged some shots later... but finally the Raven succumbed to my superior firepower.

So, we turned the game against overwhelming odds, and I had a great one with 5 Kills, 5 Assists and 1300+ Damage. One of my best so far.

Not exactly a last man standing situation since we were on a 2v2, but my teammate was out of ammo (and so was one enemy, so it was kind of 1v1).
Actually I'm posting this more to salute my teammate's performance (the name was Reev) than mine. I was amazed by how combative this pilot was, locking my target, ramming it, soaking damage, in other words being a pain in the ass to my enemy and my eyes on the battlefield while I was trying to be sneaky against a better armed and armored opponent, instead of running away like 95% of out of ammo pilots.
And even after I finally killed the bad guy and relaxed like if it was over, he was moving to intercept the last (weaponless) enemy I had totally forgotten and that was trying to ram me to death.

In video here starting at 9'20".

Got it on video, so definitely check that out if you like. :)
Short story though: most of our team pushed over saddle from the water side, and found them actually camping their base near where Gamma would be. It was a straight up brawl for a few minutes, both sides taking hits. They were better suited for it though, and had a better position, so it ended up being 2v4, myself and Leon against their Atlas, Thunderbolt, Griffin, and Stormcrow. The T-Bolt was cored, so we focused him down first, but immediately after that their SRM Stormcrow killed Leon, leaving me alone against the three of them. I put a few more SRM volleys into that Stormcrow, and he finally went down. Now there was just the Griffin and the Atlas left . . . and the Atlas was fresh except for his RT which I had cored earlier. I ducked behind a building to let my heat cool off (killing the Stormcrow put me very close to overheating) and then doubled back the same way to throw them off. It worked, and I was able to catch the Atlas while his buddy's back was turned. I put an alpha into the cored RT of the Atlas, at least hoping to take something off . . . and to my gleeful amazement, he was running XL! With him out of the picture, I turned quickly and put a volley into the Griffin's LT, before I could even grab targeting info on him. Apparently info is overrated though, 'cause he died instantly from that one volley! :p

Good match, literally had me shaking afterwards from excitement!

    Here's the video, as promised.

Well, not me, but this guy got it for our team tonight. :)

Not much to say actually, 'cause in the end, it was really 2v2; then 1 died from each side at the same time. So he was left alone (and fairly fresh) against a cored Stormcrow, and ended up taking it down in just a couple salvos.

It certainly felt like carrying on my side though. Ended up leading the push, face-first into the enemy team, brawling it out with my AC5s and MLasers. In the end, I faced off alone against 2 enemy Warhawks, one with a ST already blown off. I focused the remaining ST on that one while both launched salvos at me; my last shot before they killed me took the torso off that Warhawk, so we both died at the same time! :p

This one doesn't technically count since I wasn't the last one alive, but it counts as a "saved the day" moment, so I'm using it. Was piloting my JR7-F on Forest Colony, and though we started out well, the enemy team was being smarter nearer the end, and tied it up. They took the area near the top of the cave, and got up on the hill, and my dumber teammates were trying to fire up at them with no cover, and getting hurt bad. Seeing things go poorly, I made a suicidal decision, and circled away to the tunnel entry, knowing it was likely a bad idea. Actually, it was a horrible idea, since my CT had been turned almost orange by fighting their other mechs earlier in the match, but I'd gotten 2 kills and 3 assists, taking down an ECM Kit Fox and Spider; they had one more Spider-D left, some LRMs, and some nasty brawlers.

Just as I'm getting up to the top of the cave, I see it: white outlines on thermal, as a Battlemaster backs into the cave. He orients his torso toward me, and I let an alpha go, praying that I can blow by him and escape...only to see his mech explode. Got lucky and got his CT, and I'm already out the cave entry before his mech finishes falling. When I get there, I realize I have his entire teams back, so I go about having some fun. Three mechs are clustered together, so I drop an arty on them; while it goes off, I blast one of them in the back with an alpha, and take him down. The arty strips one of them (a Nova), and the other gets legged, so I focus down his other leg, and take a split second to notice that my team apparently has zero fucks to give, they're still sitting down where they were a moment ago. Grr. OK then, I guess we keep doing this!

The stripped mech is no threat, but he's got me targeted, so a volley of LRMs comes in hot and just barely avoids killing me, as my CT is now cherry red. Realizing I'm likely about to die, I see missiles incoming again, but manage to hide against a hillside, so they don't hit...and I decide "why not?" I wait for one more missile launch (hits the hill again) then gun it out from behind my hill, and see the LRM mech, a Catapult with no lasers, but a hell of a lot of tubes. 280 meters away. Oh shit. He has a friend between us, an Atlas, but he's not looking at me...so I charge, and it's obvious I'm not going to make it. 250. 230. Missiles incoming. I do the only thing that I can: I run straight into the Atlas, and watch as my components light up...except for my CT, which somehow was shielded from all those missiles. The Atlas starts turning toward me, so I book it out from under him, and get inside the CPLT's min range, and start shredding his missile tubes off. I know I can't kill him before the Atlas gets me, but maybe I can disarm him. But something's wrong...I'm taking no fire here!

I work around the CPLT so I have him between me and the Atlas, and see it...the silly bastard still doesn't know I'm here. He's playing "duck behind the hill" with my team, abandoning his LRM helper in the process (I imagine he was just screaming in chat). I finish stripping his LRMs and the Catapult stops moving, so I take his back and finish him off. The Nova has trudged down to the Atlas now, but he took some fire on the way...oh look, my team finally moved in! They finished off one guy elsewhere on the map (no idea what he was, didn't get an assist for it), so it's just these two left. I swoop in and drop the Nova with an alpha, and then finally turn to the Atlas...who is looking at the corpse of the Nova next to him. Away from me. Sure, I'll just take that back of yours! He wasn't an expert Atlas pilot, he had no idea how to turn and catch my little skirmisher, so a few alphas later it was over. End result? 9 total kills. And before the spree started, my team was about to lose that damn game...

Wow, Durandal, would love to see that one on video! I always love and respect it when a Light carries his team to the victory, it's so satisfying, especially as that is basically the hardest class to do it in. Good job mate! :)
