I like reading these quite a bit. Individually we make mistakes and the team does as well, but without persistence and quite a bit of luck we would be a smoking wreck and spectating someone or searching for the next game. It isn't necessarily unique to MWO, as any game with a single round, do-or-die game mode without regenerating health will have the same results as well.

But is something to build upon for us personally and those involved on either side in the match because despite the odds, it can happen. I've watched complete turnarounds happen when I've died early and the someone else be the last man standing quite a few times. There's something about that particular feeling that makes me push aside the frustrations with the game, if only temporarily, lol.

Whenever I read one of these I always feel like this afterwards:

There is simply nothing more appropriate :D

I agree, Business. These are the matches which really stand out as being extremely close and hard to win, while at the same time they are extremely rewarding on a personal level. And yes, like you said, it's not just when it happens to you; seeing someone else carry the day as the last-man-standing is always a pleasure as well --- though maybe less so when it's on the enemy team! :p   ;)

This was a very close one, and one that I thoroughly enjoyed, even though our team lost. (And although, sadly, I wasn't the one carrying the day, I still managed a good performance; so I'm happy. ;))

The match started out like any other match. Our team regrouped at E3-E4, before pushing over D5 (Nascar style). We encountered their Charlie lance still in the process of regrouping from there, and in the quick brawl which ensued over that ridge, we killed their Spider and Orion, and cored out their Stormcrow, who managed to escape to the safety of his friendlies. Our team then continued to push around D5-C5-C4, firing across the Caldera at a couple of their 'Mechs peeking near E3, before running into their heavier forces near C3-D3. After a minute or two, all three of their Direwolfs and one or two other 'Mechs were down, the Stormcrow was legged behind a hill, their still-fresh LRM Warhawk had backed off to the rocks around E3, and our team was just cleaning up their lights, which were peskily jumping around us, spotting for the Warhawk, and finishing off the cored 'Mechs among us. With their losses, as well as ours, both teams were fairly equal at roughly 5-6 deaths a piece.
Anyway, after putting a shot into their Ember's sore leg and taking it clean off, I left him for my friends to kill, and marched off to hunt down their LRM Warhawk, who'd been doing pretty severe damage to our team the entire time. I fired several shots into his RT as I approached, and thankfully he was distracted by my friendly Summoner from Charlie lance, who went down right before I closed within 250 meters of the Warhawk, who backed off as I approached, enabling him to put a few volleys of Missiles into me before I got within 180 meters. I ran out of AC ammo as I engaged him at ~120 meters, and I was already hot from firing my PPCs on the walk over. By the time I had his RT off and his CT cored out, I was too hot to fire another volley of PPCs, so my friendly stole the kill. :)P)
I turned then to find that while I hunted the Warhawk, my team had finished off the lights and the Stormcrow, but had also suffered pretty nasty losses themselves. So at this point in the game, it was just myself and two others facing the two enemy Summoners, who had managed to stay on the edges of the fight most of the match. As I moved to regroup with my friends, one of them went down, leaving one Summoner's CT cored bright red. My only remaining team-mate was a legged Kitfox who had managed to crawl over a ridge to temporary relative safety.
I was able to kill the one cored Summoner with a well-placed blast of my PPCs, after which I turned to face the other, still-mostly-fresh Summoner. With just a pair of regular PPCs remaining, I was hard pressed to keep ahead of him while at the same time keeping a +90 meter distance. After about 20 seconds of chasing each other around the Caldera's edge, I had managed to open up both of his STs, while he hadn't placed a single shot on me yet (though my LT was still cored from fighting the Direwolfs and Warhawk earlier). At 89 kph, he outran my DS easily, and quickly closed the distance when he realized I only had PPCs left; my last shot before he drew within 90 meters took off his Left Torso, leaving him with just 2 c-ERML (he had a Gauss too, but I think it must have been out of ammo, 'cause I never felt or heard it). Anyway, the match was over for me by that time, as I had no way of hitting him at such close range, and was unable to outrun or outmaneuver him so as to be able to put any damage on him. So I tanked, hoping my still-alive, single-legged friendly Kitfox would manage to finish off what little was left of the Summoner's CT and RT. But sadly, I think the Kitfox must have also been out of weapons; for after 70 or 80 seconds of tanking, twisting, and jumping around uselessly in my DS, the Summoner finally finished me off with his Lasers. 4 seconds and 1 shot later he killed the poor Kitfox, ending the match in a worthy victory for his team.

    lol, wtf:

I don't even know how this happened, but I took out a Timberwolf, Direwolf, Raven, Cataphract, Catapult, Awesome and finally the Centurion and I was crit at every component except my cockpit by the end. I don't remember specifics at all, except that we moved across the caldera and back for some reason but dished out some good damage while losing a few guys. It culminated in a nearly LRM-free brawl in the E4/D4 area and I think I got 7 of the last 8 or 9 kills, something completely ridiculous.

Only 2 games I've played today ended up in this thread, lol

He he it's a gooood feeling when you're on fire and everything falls into place.

You're a better man than I am Falconium535 as I always want one of our side to pull off the win but I know what you mean.

I do love ghosting someone who is on fire though but the problem is it sometimes encourages you to try a blatantly bad setup because you saw it work brilliantly.... once.... :whacko:

A close match with everyone taking lots of damage, but there were five enemy mechs left when my whole team was dead. Fortunately, they went for the split up and kill the Highlander one at a time approach. I was able to one-shot a couple of them, but the last light mech, a Firestarter, looked like he was going to take me. I shut down from heat, but my last volley took his leg off. I remember sitting there waiting for the restart and thinking that was it, as he fired two MLs right at my cockpit and hobbled backwards...

Restarted. Hit override. Alpha-ed him. Boom. Game over man, game over.

Achievement unlockedddd! Over two months after I said I'd make this my new goal I finally did it. I leveled and got really good at the RVN-3L to get this done and never did it in the 130 matches I've played it. Came close on a few occasions, but it never happened.

I have absolutely no idea what happened to my teammates as I was very busy brawling the remaining mechs. I was under the impression that we were leading this match by quite a few mechs. Had I known I was the last mech alive, I probably would have ran and hid somewhere safe at some point. My teammates were screaming for the trial spider to run, but I didn't get the clue.

On sigma spawn, I went kappa->water->gamma. Of course, this strategy inevitably will leave stragglers behind in the water and on land as people will miss the instruction or disagree with it.

By the time my little group was done with gamma, I thought we were squarely in the lead so I sniped a bit from D5 into the enemy mechs that were cutting off our remaining mechs in the water. When we took care of those, I saw a pack of two direwolves at C3 and dropped a blind air strike on them. I'm pretty sure it missed completely but it let me get back to land safely. I hopped over the theta hill and went straight at the two direwolves. I lost my left arm and got my left torso crit in the process of just walking toward them. So clearly, brawling was a dumb idea. I went through them, dropped an art, and used my jumpjets to escape the trouble going around the C3 hill. I don't think it did much damage, but thats why I carry strikes. It lets me make positional mistakes and escape them alive.

My brawling at the C3 hill went on for quite a while with the two direwolves and a BJ-1X. I think one by one my teammates showed up and got annihilated, but I'm not really sure since I was so busy. After about 3 minutes I finally got both of the direwolves and it was me and a trial spider vs the BJ-1X and a CDA-3M that came from nowhere. I had already taken tons of shots at the BJ, so a couple of more alphas at his CT took him down.

At this point, I didn't have much of my armor left, but I managed to take off one of his legs jumping around and twisting as much as I could to let the CDA have my back armor. I think he didn't really realize how hurt I was and was generally mortified after he lost his leg, so I got to take some angled shots around the hill at a small part of his side torsos that were exposed.

Last man standing at 29%! Thanks to Cabal668 for the inspiration on the build: Laserwolf, e92 style.

Superb description and grats. I never understand why people give up and shut themselves down as I once killed 2 fresh mechs in my legged light while trying to cap out a location on River City day. Of course we tend to remember the good matches like that not the times we fought legged against someone that instantly volleyed us! ;)

I had an amazing one before I went to bed after work...the screenshot is on my other computer, but it was a great match in my Cicada 3M as I tried to finish up the Marik challenge. PUG dropped on Canyon, and immediately things didn't look good...most of the team rolled left, but was standing in places easy to flank and fire upon, and a couple LRM boats were standing way back away from the team. Lots of strikes flying, and we had problems early: by the time we killed one guy, we were down 4, and things weren't improving. Moments later, we were down 6 as a light flanked our LRM boats (who were dumb enough to stand side by freaking side) so neither of them could fire on him, and he got 2 easy kills - pretty sure their Raven was the culprit here, not sure. I was noting all this on the map while I took pot shots with my 2 ERLLas, so I was just trying to get some kills or assists before the match ended. Suddenly, however, things changed.

I had been getting some good shots on a few mechs, specifically a Kit Fox, an Awesome, and a Raven 3L that was trading fire with me the whole match. I kept relocating and sneaking up on them, dodging PPCs and ACs the whole time, so I managed to core out the Raven and Awesome, and strip the arms off the KFX. Without warning, another Cicada (2A) charged us, and got into cover with a lot of the team not noticing, so I charged out as well, only to find him with his back turned sniping at my teammates. His back must've been paper, since I shredded it and got him to red crit in one shot. He turned, but took some fire as he did so, and another alpha finished off his CT from the front. One kill.

As I returned to the team, a Timberwolf, Jagermech, and Blackjack charged our position...but received absolutely no support from their team, including a DWF and WHK just over the hill. Charging at all 6 of us, they went down quickly in a hail of gunfire, while I got the kills on the JM and TBR by taking their backs as they tried to kill my bigger, more threatening teammates. Once they went down, things started to get hairy again...the DWF, a Warhawk and a Stormcrow started pushing, and they got a few kills. I was still in "do what you can" mode, and I cut away from the team, leaving them under a DDC's ECM while I went to flank and snipe. As I got around the middle/theta spot, I saw it above me: a mech's shadow. I tried to hug the canyon wall, but it was too late, and I took some panic fire that lit up armor on every component of my mech. Knowing it was the beginning of the end, I swung around, fired both lasers...and killed a Stormcrow, which had obviously been cored by a teammate. That's 4 kills.

Poking my head out, I got kill #5 a second later, spotting the Awesome I had been sniping at earlier, now with a cherry red CT. The first alpha didn't finish him, and he tried to drop into the canyon, but I barely was able to get a shot off and finish him before he vanished into cover again.

Looking at my map, we were now even, 9-9, during all that I had lost another teammate, but it was close now. I also noticed that there was seismic right next to me...had I not engaged the Awesome, it would've already been on me. Rotating around Theta, I caught the Warhawk (thankfully the DWF was elsewhere, fighting and dying to the team), and took a moment to consider my options. My legs were crit and risking being shot out, and my CT wasn't too healthy either. However, his target info showed his back was crit, and I would get at least one easy alpha. I knew my team was engaging the DWF, but I had no idea where the Raven was...but I decided to give it a shot, and engaged the Warhawk. Things went well...I'm rusty in my Cicada, so I underestimated the WHK a bit at first and got caught with some of his lasers, but managed to keep popping in and out of cover on the high ground, making him guess where the next shots would come from. I actually managed to whittle away the CT armor on his front with those shots, and had him almost dead when it happened...I got legged.

    From behind. Oh, hi Raven!

It was over at that point, so I hit my DPI shift to 200, took steady aim, and finished off the WHK with a blast to the CT, kill 6. While doing this, I stepped just into the canyon to try and cover my other leg, and saw the Raven come swooping in hoping for an easy kill. Just as his laser fired, I squeezed off one last alpha to his CT, watched my leg go cherry red...and watched the Raven explode. I had gotten him, somehow. Seven kills.

Elsewhere, my teammates finished off the Dire Wolf, winning 12-10, and while I wasn't quite the last man standing...it sure as hell felt like it. After being down 6-1, I killed seven enemies, held together by nothing more than melted components and a prayer, and we won the day.

    I rule. In a Cicada. ;)

Not exactly last man standing, but my team was down 1-6 within the first four minutes so I dug in and split up a stampede before they could clean up the rest -

It came down to me and three torn-up friendlies against two ER Large Cicadas on Tourmaline Desert. One by one, my teammates were picked off... the Victor and I finally engaged them up close- then he died! D=

I had no armor in my torsos at this point, but I managed to leg and kill one of the cicadas before the other one ran off. After some hit and run in the crystals, we were both red-cored.
I backed up into a corner, and he came around the side...

    We both missed!

    XD

But then I shot him. It was a good game!

Both. Still works fine now, just with 0.5s longer burn time. Overall DPS curve was barely affected by the "nerf"

That's more the combat style though. You stand 1km+ back from the combat mostly. My lights barely use them now as the 2 sec burn time just means everyone has loads of time to triangulate you.

I have had other last man standing matches, but this one was my first, best & in turn my most memorable.
It's a bit dated, but here goes....

We drop into Forest Colony on the north west ridge, me in my Firebrand ST300 2 AC/5 4 ML with full armor... His name is Boom Boom (cryptic Highlander reference) Everyone should be afraid of a little Boom Boom.
The whole match goes bad for us from the start, and before we know it it we are at 2 to 8 odds, me and a jenner pilot I had never dropped with are what's left, against 8..... Gotta love those Jenner pilots, by the way, best asset in the game when they know what they are doing.
So we go to work. The opposition has 8 mechs, but they are somewhat split up hunting us. Strategy?... Jenner dude scouts and draws each enemy mech my way. I unload center torso while Jenner swings around and punches into the back for the kill. One by one the odds quickly drop to 2 to 3 and then things start to go bad.
My Jenner buddy gets legged engaging a FB and a Hunchie 4SP at our base up the ridge when I get the call for help, So I start for the ridge and meet up with a chainsaw Murry.... he must have been cored (I didn't have him targeted), because I Alpha'd into his CT and he dropped.
I get the call that my Jenner partner is down and I am on my own... 1 to 2. Normally I would feel like it was over.... I'm not the greatest pilot, but after the terror that me and our.... scout had wrought I felt like a MechWarrior GOD!
In actuality I got soooo lucky. For some reason the Hunchie came down to meet me while the FB hung back.... I found out later that he was stomping over my fallen teammates mech in victory...... Alpha in the CT, the hunchie falls and I am almost to our base. I go to chain on my AC's hoping to take advantage of the cockpit shake, and start to unload as the FB turns towards me... he got off one Alpha that went into my leg.. and I unloaded all 4 ML's into his CT while my AC's BOOM BOOMED! Done! Congrats from all my team mates & "SkiDog, that was Uber Maximus" from my Jenner buddy. Best match I ever had, but it's really the Jenner pilot that made the difference....

It's amazing what even a bad MechWarrior can do with just a little teamwork
    Just a note:
Looking back at this I am surprized this happened at all. My tactics were not good, and I was flying by the seat of my pants. Normally aiming center torso isn't the best thing to do. The only thing I can say is these guys were hevily damaged before I ever got to them. Still my most memorable match.
