This is my ugly hybrid. You need just to attack. Shoot with LRM missile in chain and make your opponent shake. Add to this shaking of AC5 and enemy has a problem . If he try to hide the missile will find him. No run, no hide just prepare to die.
AMS can shoot down appx 4 missiles per volley, which is why larger LRM boxes are usually better. However, I love the LRM5. If you have the hard-points, 2x LRM5 are lighter and fire faster than an LRM10. BIG plus! Point being, I run the 4x LRM5 quite often, however, to get past AMS and moreover, shorten overall lock-time needed, it's best to fire all 20 at once. Chain firing only helps to A) Drain AMS or B) shake cockpits if no AMS is present. This is a GREAT build. I love running this weapon config. I have always run with an XL to max out my speed and carry more ammo, but, the STD is a great way to go with a Jager, since their side torsos are so exposed. Personally, I would play this as a long range sniper w/ the AC/5s and support with LRMs - trying to stay as far away from melee as possible. (Habits from an XL - using speed to reposition) All in all, I would love to see one more ton of AC/5 ammo, but, this is a great build. (I always run with an XL295 and 400 points of armor, adding speed and survivability to a vulnerable XL)
Love the concept, but in practice it doesn't have enough of a volley to be that great. AMS just chews it up. You could argue that LRM 5's are lighter and faster and all that, but that doesn't protect it from AMS. I don't know the real stats, but to put it arbitrarily let's say an AMS is able to destroy 10 missiles/volley. You fire an LRM 20 and get in 10 missiles. Fire an LRM 30 and you get in 20 missiles... 30 missiles... Etc. No tag also means ECM is a nightmare. In my experience, LRM mechs need to focus on LRM's and lasers, and direct fire needs to focus on ballistics and lasers. I tried a mech very similar to this, UAC/5 + LRM 30 (2x5, 2x10), and I can't say it was one of the best. Could you upload screenshots of some of your post-game stats?
The stats for AMS are 4 missiles per volley at max. So, multiple LRM5, up to a quantity of 4, becomes lighter and fires faster. They are, however, hotter. Moreover, in the current game-state, mechs do not register more than 20 direct LRM hits at once no matter how many you fire. (meaning an LRM60 boat won't register even w/o AMS/ECM/Target loss) So, 20 missiles delivered at the fastest possible firing rate, regardless of an AMS knocking out 4-5, is still the best combo single target LRM system unless you have an LRM40 in two weapon groups.
I find this hard to believe. Could you source this? And 4 missiles is still 1/5 of your payload... A team with AMS (which most teams have) will shoot down your entire volley. Useless. LRM 30 is basically a minimum.
To avoid starting another thread, here is my build. I use an XL engine for more ammo. Last night was my first night in months that I have been able to play. I took this thing out for 1 match as I still haven't got speed tweak:
