Has anyone else noticed (since the last patch) that FRAPS now crawls?

I'm able to FRAPs a single match with no problems.
I shut off FRAPs before I exit the match so it doesn't crash MWO
I drop into a new match and start up FRAPs again
MWO immediately begins to drop from my locked 30 FPS to around 1-5 FPS until I turn FRAPs off

    WTF?!?!?!

I never did this before. Just since the August 6th patch I think as the last video I recorded easily was the Soy Sauce 2.0 build which was right before the August 6th patch? or August 8th patch? One of them.

Can try tonight, which FRAPS version are you on?

And no, haven't noticed as I use OBS mostly.

I acquired the latest version of FRAPs last night and it was still doing it. At first I thought it was FRAPS and Teamspeak having an issue but today when dropping I didn't even use TeamSpeak and it was still doing it.

I downloaded MSI Afterburner and have video quality set to 85% and seem to have zero problems using Afterburner and MWO.

    Am on route home now.

Could be latest FRAPS has this issue then, since it's the latest change. Will record two games before I get the latest version and try two more.

I am having problem when I fraps too, it just won't get up properly.
Every time I start fraps the game becomes unplayable, with w single digit framerate. This happens both fullscreen and windowed mode.

I was using an older FRAPs last night (from the end of 2012) when I first detected this issue since the latest patch.

I upgraded to the latest version of FRAPs and it is still doing it.

My guess is for my card, and my system, MWO has an issue with FRAPs running.

MSI screams along fine. Not as smooth as FRAPs when locked at 30 FPS (sometimes it goes down to 25 FPS then back up to 30) where FRAPs would remain at a constant 30. Well, that is until these issues started happening.

Yes, E that is the SAME issue I am having.

I recorded a couple of video's on Saturday with no issues but I can't remember if that was done back to back.

I will check this evening when I get home.

I use latest version of fraps, windows 7 with latest release Nvidia Driver on 2 x 4gb 680 GTX.

Fraps settings are the same as yours locked at 30.

    I'm using

    GTX 560 Ti 440 Core
    nVidia 314.22 drivers
    FRAPs 3.5.99 (Build 15618)
Windows 7 (with all the CRITICAL UPDATES but I have 31 optional updates to install?!?!?)

Fraps is horrid michael. I switched over to OBS and just set it to stream to a file instead of twitch or something (in built functionality) allows you to manually set resolution and bit rates and takes up minimal resources doing it, Also the added benefit of much smaller file sizes.

    Best thing its freeware!

I will check into that Villz, thanks for the heads up.

I am playing around with Afterburner right now and when I get home from the station will do a little more testing on it. If that fails I will move over and try OBS.

I recorded 2 video's last night, and did not have any issues. the reason is; I have MWO on a SSD, and FRAPS on a HDD that it saves the recording to.

Now, your issue could be a few of the following. Are you locking the frame rate at 29.7? Are you spliting the movie?(don't split it.) Are your drivers up to date? Do keep in mind that I am using Fraps 3.5.9, not 3.5.99

    nVidia 314.22 drivers

I believe there are newer nVidia drivers out there but these ones are stable and have no issues (or didn't).

I am NOT splitting my videos (I never have)

I lock my FPS at 30 FPS

Like I said, all the MechSpecs videos up to this date have been recorded in FRAPS so this shit works but the last FRAPs I did was the Soy Sauce build and that was what? 2 weeks ago so before the August 6th patch. It is just since then that this has been happening.

Well, then try running a System cleaner and Registry cleaner and see if that helps.

    I recommend http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard

that should help a bit, so, let me know if it works.

Have you restarted? Maybe your HDD is a bad one. Or maybe it needs defragging. These things can't hurt.

I use Afterburner with MWO, I used FRAPS for at least 5 years, it's a great program and all but the files are absolutely massive. Afterburner and OBS I hear great things about, personally for me Afterburner works great. It has particular control over audio stuff that I find nice, and the file sizes aren't too big and you can record what size reso/compression/etc, and it rarely crashes. It can record desktop, direct draw, all types of shit.

    It's free.

I'd just try something else if only for the file sizes that FRAPS spits out.

Hm, no issue with two games played and fraps (3.5.9) recorded. I did notice some pretty heavy spikes when I started the recordings, the software went hickup or something and then ran at a steady 30 fps.

    Updating to latest now.

Hardware wise, we are not even remotely alike Michael so if the issue is on other hardware I can only help eliminate FRAPS as a source of the problem. I run AMD, 2 HD7970 in a crossfire on a hexacore 3930K. I originally ran a third 7970 but that's another story.

FRAPS updated to 3.5.99, starting recordings.

I don't believe this is a hardware issue at all. I've had this same machine for a year now and never had FRAPs issues until the most recent patch(s). Also, Afterburner seems to run fine.

It is a software issue between MWO and FRAPs.

Maybe the latest MWO patch requires the latest nVidia drivers?
Maybe the latest MWO patch has memory leaks (I've run into this before)
Maybe the latest MWO patch and FRAPs conflict in the GPU pipeline?

    Could be anything software related.

FRAPS runs its own codec, so you could perhaps try updating those or something.

A hair off topic, but still useful. After Downloading and using this my videos on youtube and the benefactor videos here dont freeze anymore. Highly recommend.

I just finished. Two matches recorded at 30 FPS, full size, split tick box off. Running 30 FPS both times.

After update, same story, no drops below 30.

Hm, sorry if I was unclear. I actually meant software related to the different hardware. Hardware failure wouldn't appear as a FPS drop when recording (well, maybe if the disc was about to crash but since you have tried with other software and it records fine, that shouldn't be the case).

Here's a link to Process Explorer, it can monitor drivers, leaks etc. I've talked to some of my colleagues (benefits of being on a techforum as SweClockers) and they agree it is likely there's

    1, Driver conflicts
2, Memory handling issue of some kind
    3, Harddrive status

I actually had to do that, and it seems to work. I think I used k-lite to get a better Framerate.
