Good question.. hmmm EDIT: clan SL and SPL are different as well... did Smurfy's miss an update or something?
Everything Inner Sphere just got better with the added benefit of new unique builds to make full use of the quirks. As a min/max community, Christmas just came early gentlemen! Lots of new builds and build improvements coming for November. Dare I go so far as to suggest a build archive in the next few days? @Michael
I would actually be in favor of a build archive I think. It seems like a lot of unnecessary reposting but with all these quirk changes the commentary and builds themselves will undergo drastic changes.
Exactly. If it was to be done, I would advise archiving as soon as Smurfy's has a working quirk system to account for the new statistics.
Dragon 1N with the AC5 50% cooldown quirk and lvl 5 cooldown module... These are AC5s firing faster than AC2s. From what I can hear in the BJ-1 video played side-by-side, the AC5s are definitely shooting faster than the AC2s. This thing is going to eat A LOT of ammo
Build Archives would be a SINGLE directory with every build pushed in to it regardless of class/type otherwise the forums would be doubled.
I would be all for an archiving, but at one condition: that the newly opened threads are actually discussing the build they present. It's actually a statement I make about the present state of the site, I hate how people are racing to post untested (or so little) builds, how they post them without any comment of any sort, how they do not keep their tread up-to-date, how they do not edit their OP to give visibility to interesting variants posted by other members or gameplay videos. Well, I must admit I'm not always doing the keeping up-to-date part myself, but at least I try to do something clean and informative at the start. Posting a build should come with responsibilities, and if there is a reset it would be nice to try to promote virtuous behaviour. Not faster, but close. I believe the module and quirk stack additionally, so it actually makes a -62.5% cooldown, giving you 0.64s instead of 1.66s. The AC/2 with the -12.5% cooldown has a rate of fire of one shot per 0.63s. My prevision is it's one of the first quirks that will be nerfed. Seriously, have they even though about it? Way better DPS than its triple AC/2 equivalent on the -5N (15.6 dmg/s vs 9.5), for less tonnage (16 tons vs 18) and less heat (3.1 h/s vs 4.8). WHAT THE FUCK?!!
There would be a loss of up-to-date date and discussion, but at the benefit of EVERYTHING being up-to-date and reflecting the current state of the game. I really don't mind losing that in the Inner Sphere sections considering how greatly these quirks are going to effect all mechs and tactics. People will rush to make their favorite builds, but that's how it's always been when a new mech comes out. I'd rather have it be a gateway to including new members to submit content than as a wall with big letters saying "This has already been made". A build that already exists might be the next-big-thing. It would be a duplicate of something archived, but not redundant because the meta game has changed dramatically. Sure, there will be people who submit a build with no comment on the design, no questions, no strategies, no tactics. But not everyone. If anything, a lot of us will be recreating our favorite builds that have been buffed by the quirks and new modules. I'm fine with that.
These buffs are quite scary. I understand that these chassis were underpowered, but isn't it a bit over the top with 50% AC5 cooldown buffs, and such? Its essentially an 3+AC2 build before the nerfs, with greater dps and heat dispersion. That awesome fired like 12 PPC rounds before it overheated, at ~730 optimal range, with projectile speed somewhere between the old and new.
And that's what I'm afraid of. People rushing to post, resulting of lots of "with the new quirks this build is now the best" for comment, and basta. What's the point of all those builds posted without any perspective, without giving them at least a few days of testing - the time to get the feeling and tweak the original design? Taking the time to test a build and to write about it, even if it's only a pro/con list, is actually a way to improve your build (and sometimes even your manner to pilot it) and I believe a lot of builds who be better if their posters gave it a second thought before rushing to post. Also (but it might be a personal feeling since I'm definitely more schooled at walls of texts than at Twitter), I don't feel invited to a discussion by an OP negligently thrown away at my face. I don't feel respected as a reader and as a potential interlocutor. Though I would have no objection if a quick poster gets back to their build after a week or two and update the OP with structured and informative content nourished by their experience and discussion with other members. But they don't. I agree it could be a gateway for new members and I'm glad about it. But I refuse it to be the open gate to low value content, the site deserves better.
@epikt People are gonna post what they are going to post; hopefully the cream rises to the top with the proper votes and the dregs sink to the bottom by being down voted (assuming you have tested before you vote). I can't police every build that gets posted on here and having the mod team handle that stuff is kinda Nazi of us.
These new quirks are amazing, for sure. I'd be interested to the direct comparison of dps and alpha damage compared to equivalent class of clan mechs. That is what is really important here. I'd be surprised if they didn't turn out to be somewhat similar. They are sure OP by IS standards, but that is kinda the point.
I predict: In the first few matches post patch, Mech's will get killed unexpectedly fast. More matches in the 4-6 minute range with most matches closing in 6-8 minutes. Following that, people will get supercautious which will extend the current early phase (1-4 min into 1-6 min) of a game where people probe and feint for advantage. The current mid and late phase of a game, where wounded mechs eke out their lifespans will shrink significantly (from 5-10 minutes into 6-8 min). Overall shorter lifespan on mechs. Way higher damage scores overall. Much forum activity.
I personally welcome our new IS overlords. I think it's gonna be a bad time to play clan mechs next week...
My only concern is that I don't know which mech to rebuy cause there are so many fine ones. I am actually leaning towards DRG-1N, although 1C and 5N where on a higher priority sympathy-wise before those quirks became public. The 1N might even be the only Dragon I didn't master besides the Fang, so this gives me something to level as well (won't buy any of the Reinforcement Pack). CTF-2X is another strong candidate as are JM6-A, STK-5M and (obv.) the AWS-8Q. This probably sums up to a nasty amount of CBills needed, so I'll wait until the patch notes are released next week.
Someone mentioned Jagermech quirks. I cant seem to locate them on the list. Anyone got them? edit: Nevermind got it
