Well, you still have the base AC bonuses of the chassi. So you can go Gauss for example (or other AC combo) and get that 12,5% bonus on cooldown and range. Sure, the AC20 would get 25% on cooldown and range but I'm ok with that personally. Getting 12,5% is more then it has currently at any rate!
True, but it still seems like its forcing people to go with one option to remain competitive, and that's even assuming that that combination IS competitive.
You are supposed to just use the half bonus from the weapon group. Everyone knows not to use an AC5/UAC5 on a hunchie, you get your hunch ripped too quickly. As for Pig head, maybe AC10(joke) would be ok, if you couple it with close range setup. Though I am thinking of this. Oh, the awesome bonus completely negates PPC ghostheat on a huge basis, you know what that means, right?
There is also the chassi variation to take into account, the 4H Hunchie is for some reason aimed at the AC10 as the "best" pick. Given that many mechs have similar hardpoints I presume we will see some variation in between the chassi and which weapon would be the "best" pick. For example, the Quickdraws are extremly similar. I expect to see some LLAS and PPC quirks matched with SSRM or SRM's. I'll hold off judgement until I've played with them though, whatever the quirk system will do one thing is certainly guarenteed - It will make a lot of changes to some old and not often used mechs!
I suspect that some quirks are there for variation sake, you are expacted to use the lesser bonus. That, and it might not be a good idea to use all the quirks on a build. Trying to get both CN9-AH quirks, for example, would require you to use XL most likely and not even a good maxed out engine/armor combo. You might as well make do with the lesser sub-bonus instead. with the bonus AC5 + 2x MG + 2x SRM4 looks quite good really. QUESTION: Do SRM4 full bonus apply to SRM4+A? If so then there will be some interesting things waiting to happen... hmmm. As for IM, sad they do not focus on the AC5, but for AC10 this might work. Fast enough also.
Actually seeing the chassis with my favorite build ever in Tier 4 (which, from what I can tell, hasn't been hit at all by heat penalties): STK-3H with LRM40, 3xML, TAG, and 2xSSRM2. If this is tier 4 and gets a bonus to LRMs...
Currently I run a very plain and simple AC20/6ML. Hits hard and has mre 8 kill battles for m that any other mech by far (ok 2 more than any other mech I have!). Tempted to just stick with that..... except I haven't used the mech for a while anyway.
AC20 Boat on the AH ... sort of need an XL anyway. I've been ripping mechs up with a AC20/dual SRM4 AH using a 255XL: https://www.mechspecs.com/threads/cn9-ah-bulldog-1x-ac20-2x-srm4-xl255.7391/
Those are some pretty hefty perks for the medium pulses on the Spider-5V. I'll have to take some time to look at it later to see if it is enough to add it back to my collection. Hmmm. Also, I'm assuming that the quirks are a typo for the QKD-4G and they're not actually punishing large lasers. I'll have to see what the quirks are for QKD-4H and may have to sell it to get the -4G instead. Also, those buffs for the HBK-4P are just straight up good. YUM!
I'm really liking those HBK-4P quirks as the 9x MLas build is still my goto configuration, but boy howdy that thing will be running hot with a 15% decrease in cooldown times.
Yep, it is interesting to see that the overall effect of the changes to the -4P make the loadout even hotter in a brawl. It's definitely improved, but you have to be very conscious of what you're doing in the battle instead of just going all in with it.
All the quirks of the world won't change the major conception fail of the SDR-5V: this is a mech built for verticality (it flies like no other, that's properly awesome) but all the weapons are on the torso with a ridiculous 20° pitch. Thus you can't use your mobility on a fight, only to run away. Too bad, the same mech with the hardpoints on the right arm would make a nasty little bug.
This is pretty much it. I think there were a few design issues with the game when I started playing. Requiring you to level multiple variants of each chassis is one of them, as it sort of bloated how much you had to do (often with inferior pieces of equipment). Is it still that way to level stuff? Anyway... I think this is a neutral effort. Not good (like...uh...) or bad (like Ghost Heat). It's at least an effort. The problem is I think that games with simpler solutions are often better, because there's a lot more depth for the given level of complexity. What I mean by that is look at chess. Chess has 6 different types of pieces, and most follow a very simple ruleset. You can explain chess in probably less than 10 steps, and except for castling or some of the more intricate pawn rules, a new player can understand the basic concepts really fast. But chess is famous for the level of strategy it provides. Similarly, I feel like this game has a lot of issues, and they're trying to solve those issues by doing complex solutions that require a lot of development time into the details. In the end, I don't feel like the solutions add depth to the gameplay. I feel this particular option is better than previous fixes (like ghost heat) but it worries me that this game is getting more and more complex.
well the other option would have been another nerf-wave for the clan mechs, and people would have been pissed off again.. at the same time, that quirk approach doesn't only "make IS stronger" but also levels the differences between IS variants and makes them even more specialzed and unique. Come on, leveling in MWO is super easy, just compare it to Tier-based games like World of Tanks where you have to grind through NINE tiers to get your desired top-tank and even worse, you have to grind with newbies and tryhards until you reach a certain tier where things finally get at least a little bit better player-skill wise. In a match-making system without ELO consideration. Also in tier based games you have to grind alone, because usually none of your buddies will play with you because they have to have the same tier vehicle. All i'm saying is that MWO is not perfect but it does certain things so much better than other F2P titles with millions of users. Also MWO is the least "pay to win" imho. I'm usually a skeptic and generally grumpy dude, but this time I'm really very positive and confident about PGI!
I think this the only place where they have taken the lead in the F2P market. However, it means they rely on whales to fund there projects. Or, sales to convince more people besides whales to actually buy stuff in order to fund projects in the game. World of Tanks has Offices in nearly every country, from Russia to the USA and Japan, and they are still expanding. They have movie tie in tanks from Fury, which I had the pleasure of seeing, and liked. They have there game on Ipad, Xbox, and PC. They are the most successful start-up in the "simulator market" even if there game isn't a simulator per se. They have over 100 job openings across the globe right now. They have multiple partners in business, which include Intel, Alienware, Kingston, and Jinx. So, if PGI were to ever get to the point where Wargaming is, they will have to step up there game. They made a first step by dumping IGP as a publisher, and I hope they can make the next step by getting a partner. Perhaps a Canadian Manufacture of PC Hardware?
To an extent, yes. You still have to level 3 variants through the Basic skill level, but if you've previously cleared elite with 3 mechs in the same weight class, you only need to go elite with your main variant, and Master will unlock. Which is nice. That said, especially with new quirks coming in, it will make a lot of the sub-par variants actually have some capability in combat, so it will be less awful to level them. As for the SDR-V, we mentioned in a previous thread, where we suggested quirks that could show up in-game, that the 5V needed only a hardpoint move to the arms to be useful. Which is far from original, since people have been saying that for as long as that variant has existed, and we've been ignored. Thus why I still maintain that it is, without a doubt, the single worst mech in the game. Had I not already leveled Spiders, I would have bought the Anansi just to not have to use the V...
