Impressive or not?

Because you asked, I decided to go through my list of old Screenshots . . . these are a couple I found. ;)

Both in an IS Medium (Shadowhawk), both using the same build (3xSRM6+A and 3xMLaser, XL300), and neither of them using strikes or coolshots (after initial Clan release I stopped loading consumables in PUG matches altogether). I realize they are both very close to missing the mark . . . one landed at just 4:58 seconds, and the other I had just 901 damage. But I think it safe to say that Clans do pretty much anything better than IS (except Lights, obviously), so getting 900+ within 5 minutes for a Stormcrow should be slightly easier than in a Shadowhawk. (It runs faster, cooler, with more firepower and better weapon ranges; not to mention being able to lose a ST without dying.) So again, while this Stormcrow pilot did an impressive job that match, I don't find the result to be particularly impossible.

Not meaning to be a jerk, mate, just accepting your challenge. And I'm not saying it isn't hard; just that it's not all that uncommon, especially now with Clan 'Mechs. :)

Well now it's time for full disclosure. How many screenshots did you have to sort through to find this pair of games?

Also, the question wasn't whether it was impossible, but whether it was impressive. I feel like a lot of people don't seem to understand how uncommon these types of games are. ~1,000 damage in a little over 4 and a half minutes? In a medium? I think some of the people here are big time downplaying this.

Well, if it helps... I am impressed by this. Sorry I am not HARD CORE SUPER ELITE enough to get 1500 damage per game in my commando just by powering upand sneezing. Usually takes me about 100-200damage per kill, too.

Remember the Dakka Dakka Shadow? Good times, good times. Ok, it's uncommon but maybe you and I run in different circles. I've played with guys that can make this kinda stuff happen fairly regularly. I mean sure it isn't every game but it certainly isn't anything that I sit up and say "ZOMG" and take notice with. Especially when you add perfect artillery or airstrikes into the mix.

How about a light mech? :phear:

(in conquest to spice up the challenge)

In most brawls the damage is dealt at a rate that would easily qualify to your criteria.
There's not arguing about this requiring a good performance (and probably an heat efficient build with good dps) but in my opinion the most "difficult" part on those games, and what makes it somehow rare and impressive, are the circumstances of the game more than the actual pilot performance: you need an early brawl, no hidden chicken in the mountain you waste 10 minutes to chase, a team that carries on so the fight is over quickly, but not too much because if they really do you won't have the opportunity do deal more than 500dmg, etc...
I'm pretty sure this pilot delivers such performances on a daily basis, only that most of the time the fight won't start before the 5th minute mark, time will be wasted on some light running away, the team will do its part of the job and share the damage output, or on the opposite will fail miserably and will be destroyed no matter if one of them is dealing 400dmg/minute.

There's a big difference between players, some consistently whip out high damage. I swap too many builds and mechs to really train myself in consistent damage dealing in one mech.

If someone has several hundred drops in the same build, he surely knows how to get the max damage. I have about sixty-seventy games on my laserboat Stormcrow (ran most of them alternating the Crow variants) and by the end of that I did 600 damage games easily. Now that I've run Firestarters, Commandos and mixed assaults I likely would not do so well in that mech.

So, thousand points plus games? For me, maybe one in a hundred (I have maybe 7000 drops total by now in 113 different mechs). For someone more trained, a lot lower.

I'm happy if I pass over 600... everything below 200 is embarassing. Although it surely depends on mech, loadout and the assigned role. If I play a spotter with 0 dmg, and my lrm-buddy inflicted a massload of pain and kills, everything's fine.

1589 DMG in a Daishi was my best and only time I got past 1000.

I think Lan has neatly hit on a point. I spend my time pushing to level new mechs as I'm not playing competitively atm and usually rely on doubles a lot - for example last night I used 7 mechs in our group over the evening - 2 HGN, 3 VND, the Sparky and Ananasi. Ok I didn't do that badly (lowest in 4-5 hrs was exactly 250 damage in a 12-0 massacre but ultimately they're generally bad mechs that I just want to get done (ok 2 I really enjoy which are strangely both hero mechs!). When I play competitively or have a 12 man I just force myself to play competitive builds exclusively beforehand for 1-2 days so the instincts come back. Admittedly the plan has always been to master out every mech in game and then switch to competitive builds. Almost there.... though their give away is just a roadbump in my progress!

I'd invite you to go back to the first responses in this thread, where people were downplaying the game I mentioned. Yes, there are a lot of reasons the particular game I mentioned would be difficult to replicate.

*Dead time at the beginning of a match=no damage done til the fighting starts
*Unlike in theory-crafting, during an actual match you generally aren't firing at your mechs paperdoll sustain dps due to repositioning, movement, etc.
*Brawling by nature invites a lot of return fire. Myself, I don't generally deal a lot of damage in a medium size brawler.

So, while many mechs are capable of cranking out that damage in theory, in an actual game it does not happen from start to finish.

Finally, the reason I asked for screenshots was to make some of you sift through your games and realize how rare this actually is. I *do* know that the circumstances make it rare. I found the downplaying of the accomplishment from the first few responses of this thread to have a severe disconnect with reality.

They're not downplaying it but just making the point that a lot of people specifically go for that kind of figure and helpfully saying how they do it. :)

Wait think I'm talking third person here that's weird. o_O

In other news, I was playing a match at a friend's house the other night and saw a Banshee do 1400-1700 (can't remember off the top of my head, I have the screenshot, but no access to it right now) in what I want to say was around 3 and a half minutes.

Now THAT I would like to see. Must have been a really great match for the guy. :)

Again, my guess: cold map, (probably FrozenCity or ForestColonySnow), AC5 (+AC2?) build with MLasers for backup (plus cooldown modules for increased DPS); threw a strike, popped a coolshot; got at least 5 kills with at least 15 component destructions; against an enemy team who had no clue what they were doing and simply lined up for him to shoot at, with a friendly team who really just showed up to take damage, and not to give it. Not impossible, but very much reliant on ideal circumstances (less-than-par players on both other teams being one of the most important ones).

Can't ever say for certain on alot of the points; but at least the screenshot would show what map, how many kills, and how the other players in the match (on both sides) performed in general.

Yeah, I'm gonna call BS on that one or perhaps you are misremembering. 1400-1700 damage in 3.5 minutes? Dude, anything large enough to do that kind of damage requires that amount of time just to get to the fight!

Yeah, that's why I'm guessing small cold map with buddies who didn't shoot anything and enemies who didn't shoot back. :p

Gotta say though, a Direwolf with UAC5s+Cooldown-Module can definitely spit out that DPS, even on a not-so-cool map. And getting to the fight, again, small map can play a huge part, as can an ideal spawn location. 1700 damage is obviously rare, especially for IS 'Mechs. That Banshee must have been spitting fire the whole match at targets who weren't even sparking back, with friendlies who only showed up to watch (didn't steal any damage/components/kills).
