Game is fun to play. Includes bugs associated with a Beta product. Missing much needed UI features, but those are slated for release soon. Lack of end game, but that is also slated for a release. Missing full polish, yes. Is it a bad, flawed or otherwise unenjoyable game? HELL NO, GIANT ROBOT KILLING MACHINES ARE ALWAYS COOL.

If I was a grade school teacher as of right now I'd have to give MWO a solid F.

There's to much missing from the game for me to grade it any other way. It's like PGI is selling a Monopoly game with all the pieces but the board.

The MWO Team Deathmatch is fun but that's all there is to it. Promises of more and better to come don't mean much if you look at PGI's track record of keeping promises. Right now the players/fans of BT are the best part of this game and if it has a heart they are it.

If things change I'll up my grade for PGI's MWO but right now it's just a F.

It's looking like PGI has invented the Vancouver Steamer.

I gave MWO a 70-75% because I see that it has good potential. I would love to see some other maps, game modes and other features but as a start of a F2P game, I think it has a pretty decent start.

Of course, I may well still be in my honeymoon stage of the game. Call me optimistic.

I'd give this game a 50% review score. I've been following all of it's develepment, and even the community that plays it wants it to stay in beta.

I'd give it about a 65. GREAT potential and a ton of fun. However, it is not polished, bugs have not been worked out enough, balance is still being HUGELY modified every week or two making it inconsistent, and there is not enough variety in weaponry and maps to give it a higher rating in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I love the game. But, it's still a work in progress. Moreover, I feel it's improving quite rapidly for the development they are implementing.

65-70. They are nerfing first, removing the cause for the nerf later, I don't have much faith in their ability or willingness to make a fundamental change instead of just patching symptoms. However the podcast on NGNG I listened to sounded like the guys at least know what their game is missing.
Sooo, maybe once it's released and their publisher gets of their backs, they might come around and do more than just frantic patch-nerfing.

75-80. It's fun, the mechs and weapons are different enough that they all have their places, the maps are good, although there are too few of them, mech customisation is really enjoyable and has a real effect on gameplay, graphics are pleasant, there are a few really bad bugs and a few more annoying ones. PGI's customer relations could be better, but it's really no worse than what we're used to from developers of online games.

In my personal opinion, anyone who gives it worse is either a gaming snob or pandering to the complainers.

I love the hell out of this game, and may still have some fanboyism affecting my score, but I'd give it a 70-75.

The game is, very clearly, unfinished. There are still some pretty serious bugs, but the list of bugs (that I experience on a regular basis) is shorter than the list of missing features from the game. The missing features puts this very squarely into beta territory, if not alpha. My understanding of software development, is that Alpha is feature implementation, Beta is debugging and testing, and release is what you do AFTER ALL PLANNED FEATURES HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED.

I will still play this game into the ground, but it definitely still has some growing to do before I would consider today "launch day".

My Heart is giving this Game a 50% because of the very very weak Launch-Day and the recent strange Patch-Changes, but my mind is trying to rate the game as it is compared to other Games at Launch, so i'm not following the shitstorm/-rating, that is running in all the Fan-Communities right now.

    1. Graphix 8/10 - CryEngine 3 looks damn awesome, if you have the Hardware. Could be better with DX11. Some annoying graphical bugs is tempering the delight.

    2. Sound 8/10 - Awesome Surround Sound, excellent Weapon Sound Effects, and earthshaking Explosions. The Missing of Music, and Ambient Sounds is really not acceptable

    3. Balance 7/10 - good balanced Mechs, there are no OP-Mechs, every Chassis has its Pros&Cons, Weapons are unbalanced, some few Weapons are underpowered now after latest Patches

    4. Mechs & Maps Design 8/10 - good Design & Versatility, lacks the Polish for possibly more Tactical Indepth Gameplay

    5. Extent 6/10 - Good Amount of Maps (some recycled), many Mechs/Variants and plenty of Weapons, but too few Game Modes & Events, but still upcoming content over the next months, weak Tutorial = not beginners-friendly

    6. Ambience 8/10 - Authentic Mech-Feeling, good Looks & Feel of the UI & Gameplay, boombastic Battles, it still attracts because of the endless Options of Mech-Builds, exciting Game Modes, motivating Experience Tree, plenty of Skins to config individual Mech-Look, too few Game Modes & Unbalance of Weapons tempers the Delight

    7. Controls - 9/10 - Very good KB + Mouse Controls, configurable Weapon Grouping, logical HUD, Joystick-Support, but still some Controllers are not supported perfectly

    8. Developer Communication & Support - 6/10 - Mixed Feeling, on the one hand they show effort to update the game continuously, improving the stability & balance in little steps, delivering new Mechs & Extras, some Players Desires are listened to, but others on the other hand are simply neglected, could be much better for such a big-looking Game, weak Promotion/Marketing of the Game for Fans & Press

    9. Community - 8/10 - A lot better than in other games, a lot of friendly and helpful players, little to zero Offense on "Noobs", compared to other games, still few good Fan-Guide/Tutorial-Sites (except Mechspecs), very constructive criticism at PGI, often there are shitstorms about the Patch-Releases, but thats the fault of the Developers

    10. Hardware-Requirements & Game Stability - 7/10 - relatively high System-Requirements for a free2play Online-Game due to CryEngine3, the Developers are trying to lower the Requirements steadily to reach more Players, but still you need at least a good Dual.Core-CPU from the recent generation and a dedicated Middle-Class Graphic-Card from within the last 18 Months to play it at acceptable Framerates + Medium Graphic Details. Still there are some Connection Problems, could be annoying Lags or Freezes. Could be better!

    Overall Result: 75/100

In words: For new Players it (still) looks & feels awesome from first glance, but it (still) lacks the fine polish for the perfect Gameplay Feeling over long-term.

Those concepts were created for retail games that don't receive any new content or continuous support after release. They are really not applicable that way to online games. For most recent big-name online games, release was just a formality and the switch from Closed Beta to Open Beta was the real big milestone.

There has been jack dick in terms of big name online games recently that mattered.

Maybe that's why they should try actually doing a beta as a beta?

Rather than a cash grab on an alpha product?

I like the guys comment earlier when here made the metaphor about MWO is Monopoly w/o the board. Real talk. There is no BT universe. It's fucking Robot Jox.

If I was a reviewer for this game. No, seriously, if I was a reviewer... then the entire crux of my review would center around hedging my bet on whether or not MWO is actually supposed to be an Xbox Arcade casual f2p/p2w game with zero content beyond the initial grind/sink. In other words, if this game is supposed to be on the 360 as a free download with some DLC or money sink for mechs, that'd seem sorta legit. As it stands? Calling this an online BT game for the PC? Is sorta a joke. The premise is great. The initial system mechanics from the source material is unwieldy, but it can work [balance]. The vaporware endgame is the phantom elephant in the room now. It'd only fly if this was a casual game for a casual audience on a casual platform. But it isn't. So wtf???

    5/10

With *any* form of CW, it starts marching up. If the game had legit CW, immersive, unexploited, majestic in scope and size and interaction - then we're talking potentially 8, 9/10?

I find it interesting that it hasn't ever been reviewed by any major online publication. You would think that on launch day PGI/IGP would have lined up at least a few reviews to get word of mouth up.

Lacking in depth past mech-building, but with constant updates and a play-style entirely unique to itself, it'll keep you hooked for months.

    I gave it 70-75.

I was there in Friends and Family when there was pretty much nothing but a map or two and a couple of mechs with a few weapons. I have seen how far they have come when it comes to fleshing out that they have. I do think the launch was pretty weak and that some sort of sale or event or something, should have been given to the players but it is what it is.

My honest appraisal is a 65-70. Boundless potential, highly addictive fun, and I confess a great love for BattleTech and that bias is a factor in my rating. If any of my friends picked it up I think they would rate it more around 40-50 for the lack of polish and sheer confusion status of having a poorly done tutorial and a bitch of a learning curve. At this juncture I'm just going to be patient and wait for all the promised features... MWO can shape up to be so damned wonderful given time...

I am originally a long time member from mektek, so I apologize if I am not up to snuff with everything going on with MWO. I think the game has great potential to bring old guys back like me and new people to the battletech-arena of Mechwarriors, especially some of the Die-Hard guys who still play it on, old pc versions, console games and of course, table-top-based games. Not Crazy on the color schemes of the mech-vehicles, but I am old school! But I do know the reason behind it. I also like that they were able, to Introduce new Mech Chasis's with some of the old Standards. Mech battle is not a battle without the Atlas,Madcat and Orion.
I think the Lore of the game and it's many stories needs to be brought out more. So that new and old players alike know the reasons why the clans are set up the way they are and how the history of the factions provide the basis for battle.
But I like that they were able to bring MW back to the table and launch it with the Pride it deserves.

    I gave 55-60%.

Great game with potential, but missing features which should have been implemented during Beta test period for debugging.

I will wait until the launch event to make any guess. That's when I figure some more meat to be delivered and actual promises to be made concerning the future.

The launch day obviously means something different then what I expected but true enough, PGI didn't promise a thing. Operation 24? Riiiight... :wtf:

Dota 2 doesn't matter? Chivalry: Medieval Warfare doesn't matter? Team Fortress 2 doesn't matter? Warframe doesn't matter?

I don't know what your criteria on "mattering" are, but they have to be significantly different from mine.
