Now after the Jester is released finally we can talk about reasonable Weaponloadouts. Suggestions for every kind of Weaponmixes are made by every creative builder, but let's talk about performance. In my opinion triple (ER)LLas or Double PPC+(ER)LLas and some few secondary MLasers work very well due to Range Versatility, Firepower, Deadliness, Cool Efficiency and remaining Weight for Speed or extra Stuff. Builds with only MLas, MPLas are underpowered or sucks to use because of limited Range. Single/Double LLas concepts can give more Range Firepower at still very decent Speed but doesn't have the Burstdamage of Triple Quad LLas or PPCs. Then there are Ultra.Burst concepts at high costs of Cool Efficiency, Speed or Close Range Fighting Ability.. So what's your opinion?
Depends on the playstyle really. If you like to knife fight go with the MLas or MPLas but if you like to run overwatch on your group then go for the PPC/LLas combo. Optimal is totally subjective sometimes and is in the eye of the pilot.
And also until we have the dropship with several mechbays to select from pre-drop on map, the smartest is probably to run a generalised mech which can handle all ranges at least somewhat. I try to avoid mechs that are overspecialized. Sometimes though... To answer the topic, I'd go dual LLAS with four MLAS as being the most efficient, cool and trusted to deliver damage accurately at all ranges. I did this on the QKD, K2, the BLR and the Bolt. PPC's just aren't delivering the damage potential they should. After using them for several matches and going back to lasers I see hundreds more damage on exactly the same weapon build (swapping the PPC's for regular LLAS).
I'm interested to know your subjective experience with all the possible weaponloadouts.. There is never an everlasting best objective concept but always a tendency to the optimum.
I notice this on my K2, where I switched back to LPLas (w/ 2 UAC5). Yet on my C1, PPCs in the side torsi always deliver.
IMO the best argument against 6x ML is that it's just a slow Jenner. And due to the range the Jenner will be able to apply damage more easily. And disengage better, and overall be just about as hard to kill. So you get an extra module slot and AMS for your trouble. I'd rather have the Jenner.
I am waiting for the sale to get the Jester... I will be getting it, however. That said, the 4ML 2ERLL with the 350XL seems like the perfect compromise in all situations. You have long range punch, short range destructive power and a speed+maneuverability that makes you very tough to keep track of. My only concern with the Jester is that I will run no other builds in it. This is one hell of a sexy mech...
Not only that but it is reasonably cool as well. After finishing my build late last night I was surprised how easy it was to manage my heat.
6x FLAMERS!!!! Well, my choices: 3x LLas (or ERLLas if you can stand the heat), works well so far. 2x PPC, for snipers. 2x ERLLas, for closing in. 2x LPLas, brawler mode.
2x PPCs for sniping and long alpha work, 4x MLas for sustained DPS. http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=121&l=e8aee4b3df89fa5e3d6ca5b90d8f929df17c91a1 Variant A; http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=121&l=05e793d759760dbccd2ad0e056fdeff527d581ca Or, if you like close range hit-and-run; http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=121&l=cb7f9ab6c355196518bf85011f228c679851e7a8
Yup, been there done that. ^^^^ 2X ERLL and enough speed keep you out of danger at range. The ERPPC seems like a better choice for sniping, but I find that heat to be way too much when you have to get closer, which ALWAYS happens.
