Both Dragon Slayer and Heavy Metal are excellent for 2x AC5 + 2x PPC jump sniping action. That's not very sneaky, though. As far as the PPC vs ERLLas argument, I've found that running my 3M with PPCs makes it a lot harder to track down. Lasers may hit immediately without travel time, but you're drawing a literal arrow back to your hiding spot. A quick PPC shot before fading back into cover though? Just be careful of Jenners and Firestarters.
I agree with your warning of Jenners and Firestarters. I seem to have lost my touch in using the PPC (or ERPPCs) in close range. I also agree with your assessment of hiding after firing a PPC, however, I feel like it close between ERLL and PPC for myself because of both a) Close Quarters Combat and B)I feel as if it is sometimes easier to fire the ERLLs because of the zero travel time. I keep switching back and forth on my Spider 5D, and my current build* is 1 Tag, an ERLL, and I think a ML. *Changes all the time. I do, however, use Tag almost all the time when I can fit it to assist any allied Missile boats. And to just screw with enemy ECM mechs.
Right now my Ideal Sneaky Sniper is a Raven 3L w/the 2 ERLLas build. I've also got my Com 2D built with a ERLLas that I snipe with. It actually sucks canal water but it's very fun to play just because it's so wimpy. I do this because I don't like the Steak build for it. I'm thinking about getting into the Cicadas just for the 3M. I think when and if the 3x4 thing happens the Cicadas will be a very valuable addition to a company.
The 3M is great, but it can be TORTURE getting all the efficiencies unlocked, although you can either port over your engine/lasers and use a non-ECM version of the same build, or I had a fair bit of success getting them over and done with by using 2 MLas and a TAG. They won't do MUCH that way, but it's cheap, and the TAG bonus helps a lot, especially with so many ECMs running around lately.
I run a Jenner-F. XL350, ERPPC, 3MLas, 2JJs and everything else into armour. No additional DHS. It runs hot, but its manageable as long as you don't use both sets of weapons at once. It can go toe to toe with other lights if you're good at landing those ERPPC shots once you've exposed their internals. Could probably go 2x ERLL here though. Shave off armour for more DHS if you want. Jenners do lack ECM though and Firestarters are like the new thang now.
A XL350 you say? What kind of steroid version are you running since they can only take up to 300 in size?
Hrm... With an XL250 (255 for performance at same weight) you get 10DHS and appx. 30% heat efficiency (not terrible) However, you have about 3 extra tons and he said he didn't equip any extra heat sinks... My guess is that he meant an XL300. Max speed, long range sniper with a 3xMLas backup. Solid build. http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=4&l=d4175362f92f95c8613e5e2d5e5335584ed1ac28 If he DID mean an XL250 (255) then you would slow down quite a bit, but, also have much better cooling. http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=4&l=1132b72c42cf997ad586719625c0417abe84f682
By Jenner I meant Shadow Ca- uh. But yeah brainfarted, I meant XL300. My 3 other mechs all share an XL350 so its kinda almost habitual to say it. A standard PPC can shave some heat off but I like having close range pin point vs other lights. A risky shot for sure, but well worth it. I tend to spend a lot of time walking the heat off while skulking for exposed rears.
I run my Jenner F with 3 MPL and 3 ML and after 2 Alphas in the back of a standing unfriendly I sneaked up on its Fastest Mouse in all Mexico mode. And praying I don't run into a light for the next 20 seconds. Usually I have the MPL on chain fire and the ML fired grouped.
