This is my Marik Campaign HM build. In order to keep with the meta it is more sniper focused and as such the XL has been taken due to not being a big brawling mech - rather - a support mech and as such you will be behind cover a lot. Weapon Groups 1 Gauss Rifle 2 PPC's 3 SRM's The Gauss and PPC's will be your main weapons while the SRM's are there to keep close range still semi-viable. The only negative is that this is running an XL engine - but as stated due to the nature of the mech you usually will get pop'd in the CT before the side torsos and if you use cover then you have not much to fear.
I like the overall feel of this build, though I have heard that currently running w/o Artemis makes it slightly easier to "clip" pesky light 'mechs that try to circle you. It's true, however, that w/o Artemis you wouldn't have as much a focused shot at larger 'mechs that want to dance with you. I give this a 4/5 Reason: It's versatile in that you have SRM to help in close combat, and it holds true to a sniper play style. Jump Jets allow you the mobility you need to "poptart" or simply get to better vantage points. I didn't give a 5/5 due to the skill cap this would likely need for its play style, as well as its low Cool Eff.(which I understand is in part the ER PPCs and also the SRMs which wouldn't be fired at the same time if possible).
As it is with many assaults, I feel like too much was sacrificed in survivability when you switched to an XL engine. Sure, Jem Glam 3.0 has some additional killing power, but I'm not sure that it was worth it.
Playing with this one right now. God you really need the Speed Tweak and TwistX (x2) to make this thing bearable LOL
I prefer to run more cool than this build so I dropped the SRM's for SSRM's so I managed 16 dbl heat sinks
With the coming heat changes I have been playing around with this one now... Use the SRMs + Gauss for close range Use the Gauss + PPC for long range sniping Heat is waaaaaaaaaay better.
4/5 JJs still allow to poptart very well. As I believe that SRM4s don't really benefit that much from Artemis, I removed the guidance system. The spare tonnage was used to install an XL325 for faster repositioning and improved overall movability. The heat efficiency is better as well now. Finally, a fourth ton of Gauss ammo was added as a tribute to 12 vs 12. AMS is a viable option as well, but depends on personal preference and expected opponents.
I like this build, but it tends to run a little hot for my liking. I did some tradeoffs with the SRMs so I can pump out more of that crucial long-range damage with much less downtime.
Updated Cattra's OP with the PPC instead of the ERPPC since that is what most people seem to be running these days (and cause he confirmed that is his current loadout on the Gem Glam Jam)
Using the modified PPC build, I'm even more of a believer. http://imageshack.com/scaled/large/850/ahv3.jpg[/img]
Hey, Props on those 2 scores TYR4ANT, thats insane. I know you say you use the "modified" version of the ppc build. Would you mind posting which build that was exactly? Thanks, BearJOO
He means this one... The original build by Cattra had ERPPCs instead of PPCs. The "modified" version is straight PPCs to reduce heat due to the heat increase on ERPPCs I changed Cattras OP as well as my own.
Exactly what Michael said I also think there is another benefit from the switch that's not readily apparent. Since you're now engaging sub 1000m there's less divergence between your Gauss Rifle and PPC's compared to the ER PPC's at targets beyond 1000m at which point simultaneous fire results in a miss with the Gauss round passing behind the target if they're moving. Yes you will certainly be out sniped by an ER PPC equipped variant beyond 1000m if the enemy pilots aim is true. However, for 1000m in, the modified alternate build with standard PPC's can easily connect with everything else. What I really like about this build is that between 90m and 270m you have better repeat-ability of alpha strikes which were basically non existent with the ER PPC build because of the combined heat from the ER PCC's and the SRM's. With the switch to standard PPC's you can calmly Alpha and don't have to concern your self with heat nearly as much, just your effective ranges.
Yeah I brought my rating down to a 4 star now since the Gauss mechanic changes really hurt this machine
Agreed. No more poptarting in this bad boy. It still makes a pretty good brawler but the idea of jump sniping with this? No.
