http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/173345-heavy-mech-poll/ Black Knight vs Grasshopper http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Black_Knight http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Grasshopper Go and vote. ADMIN EDIT: Or you can vote right here.
both seem pretty shitty to me. I almost want to vote Black Knight just to see how they design that fail right arm weapon point. I can't wait till people complain about getting shot in the back by FF because the person is zoomed in. How many more straight-humanoid, low slung weapon mechs must we get...
Blech. The problem for me with either, aside from both basically being energy only boats with no ballistics on ANY variant and very limited missiles on the Grasshopper, is that to really get fun use from either or their potential heroes we need mechanics and equipment that don't exist in game yet (melee, hatchet, TSM, variety in Active Probe and ECM types, Snub Nose PPC). That said, I'm a sucker for the Black Knight.
I want both. And judging from the poll it looks like community agrees. As for the functionality of the two... yeah. I don't expect them to be good mechs. But this is Mechwarrior. Not every mech is good. I just want some damn variety on the battlefield. More mechs. I won't be happy until MWO has 2 or 3 times the mechs it does currently.
I don't know about that. Voting here as well as the OTHER forums shows us the difference between what MechSpecs wants and what the larger MWO community wants. And clearly if the two don't match up that means the larger community is at fault, right? Because all the good players hang out at here. We know what's best for them. Who needs a player council when you have MechSpecs? PGI should just implement everything we say. Starting with Soy.
I get that but removing a link to the official poll just ensures we have no say where it really matters and smacks of censorship. Is that really what this site is about?
You can still click and go to the official site and read the link. Well, we current have only one choice in both 70 ton and 75 ton heavy mech. I am leaning towards Black Knight. A 8 energy hardpoint massive energy boat. Standard engine at 300. Oh and official MEDIUM SHIELD arm. This is what it should look like though, the hero at least. Obviously the Hero should be able to zombie without arms and legs. The Grasshopper does have JJ. This guy have 6 energy hardpoint. The so-called extra missile weapon hardpoint is at the head in case you are wondering, not as useful as you might think. Also, 2 energy seem to be at CT. So it is still an energy boat with JJ with standard engine at 280. Not as useful as one might wish. In the end it is a Quickdraw+5tons with less well-placed hardpoints. Both of them might look wonderful, more so with the Black Knight. Function wise though, not too impressive. But we don't have a 70-75 ton energy boat (last big one is 65 ton thunderbolt 7 energy hardpoints) 70 ton we have Catapract 1x at least.
I wonder.... the Black Knight in MW4 had nothing to do with the original Black Knight from the TRO's. Apart from a much different look (M$-Design), it mounted an Omnipod (or was it two? can't remember) and Jumpjets... and was hated for being a helluva poptart. Which one will make it? Because I'm quite sure most ppl wiull choose the BK over the Grasshopper (which btw never appeered in a BT-Game so far apart from the tabletop-adaption... what'sitsnameagain? Megamek?).
Not sure I understand you - the Grasshopper is in the very original TRO 3025, TRO 3039 etc, the Black Knight was in the TRO 2750, TRO 3025 (Revised), 3039 etc. Both have a lot of TRO entries in fact now I look at my old books.
I meant that the Grasshopper never made it to a VIDEO-game... sorry for the misunderstanding. And regarding the Black Knight.... there's qite a difference between the TRO Black Knight and the MW4 Mercenaries Black Knight. I was just asking myself, which of them will make it, since they're definitively NOT the same Mech.
That's a pretty good point. I was wondering why I hadn't seen anyone comment about the Black Knight being a nightmare poptart yet. But admittedly I pretty much ignore the main site completely other than scanning the first page on that poll they started. For the answer to this we should probably take a look at what mechs they've already released. As I have basically stopped playing MWO I can't answer this but maybe someone here can. Of the mechs we have currently does PGI seem to be drawing more from TRO specs or MW4 specs? I would guess they have been more MW4-centric due to the weirdness that is translating tabletop into arcade shooter. I know MW4 mechs had a lot more armor than the TRO called for (when my unit used it for practice my TRO Jenner was extremely under tonned because I was using the TRO armor values instead) and I think MWO took a play from their book on that one right? Otherwise we'd have a lot more one-shotting going on.
Actually they go for the TRO version. Its just they're using the hard point version from the later PC games. I've noticed a few times they've added extra hard points though that might be my imagination.
