GOLDEN BOY Aside from the LRM builds, the stock setup is pretty much great to run on with a few upgrades and didn't see why you would want to change it too much. Swapped out the 220 XL to a STD 255 for extra speed and survivability, played around with the armor amounts to keep the same cooling power as the stock which gave me 3 DHS mounted. Also changed out the MPL's for reg ML's for cooler weapons. I dropped the leg armor for a reason. I rarely get hit down there. People are pretty good at aiming at the center torso 99% of the time I play.
Great setup - the firepower to tonnage ratio on these things is nuts. I suppose the only mitigating factor for the huge alpha these guys can deliver is the delay in missile firing - probably only relevant for hitting fast-moving lights. Anyhow, great build. Just as a cost-saving suggestion, if you have a 280XL engine laying around your mechbay from cataphract grinding, like I do, you can use that, and drop a heat sink to pick up AMS. You lose a bit of speed and 2% heat efficiency, but its a relatively common engine and you get additional group utility. Awesome build though, this is what I will be running.
To keep the original "maximized" SRM Alphapower i did these tweaks: More Speed, more Cool, more Ammo, more Armor, AMS.Protection
I would wait for the release of a 18 to try the build there. Better mobility. You just have to go with one less MLas, but you can bump up the SRM numbers.
