Actually I'm more scared of CW than anything. I feel it's going to be one of those to-the-victor-go-the-spoils games which is great for PvE but a terrible, terrible balance mechanic for PvP (and so far, THIS IS ALL PVP!!!!) I think the problem with what they did to poptarting is twofold: 1) It made using JJs at all provide motion sickness and 2) Instead of applying to the whole flight, it just applied to the top arc, so people can still jump jet I wonder if they would do a poll, how did the JJ nerf affect you: 1) I do not poptart because it was made harder 2) I poptart anyway, I just shoot at the right time 3) I do not use JJs at all because I want to keep my lunch
What you need to remember is that under the old Battletech tabletop system, A/Cs had 90-100 damage per ton, and Gauss 120. Machineguns were 400/ton, no heat. It is no wonder that any game derived from that start should have MGs doing far more damage per ton of ammunition. Part of the reason it seems like such an edge is so many close knifefights in MWO. However, MGs are spray and pray much more in MWO than BT.
I think if hits would register we'd see better accuracy with MGs in game. Also if people wouldn't just attach them to their other weapons (I've seen people with LBX+MG builds firing all of them together at targets that are 400m away...and they're holding the button down...) Are these changes supposed to go in on the next patch (I'm assuming tomorrow)? Or are these next month? I'm trying to figure out how to rebuild most of my stalkers, but that's not going to happen until I know how heat penalties will be applied.
