PRIMARY STD ENGINE CONFIGURATION This mech is stupid deadly. The UAC5 looks very deceptive in terms of its alpha capability but the RoF plays a big role in the total actual output. The four medium lasers also chew up light mechs and really helps punch holes through whatever the UAC5s softened up. Set your weapon groups up like this Group 1: 2x UAC5 (chain fire) Group 2: 4x Medium Lasers (group fire) Group 3: Alpha Strike Everything The key to this is to single click your mouse button 1 (group 1) as it helps reduce the jam rate of the UAC5 significantly. You can still achieve exceptional damage output with single clicks so don't worry. Save the "spray and pray" for when you need a huge alpha in order to save your butt! ALTERNATE XL 300 CONFIGURATION Based on Martel's loadout I put together an XL version that I've been testing out. I did do some tweaks like removing 2x DHS and placing the ammo in more protected spots versus the RT/LT where he had it. PROS - 11 kph faster - 50 rounds more for the UACs - 32 points more armor - Slightly more heat efficient CONS - Expensive (XL engine) - Can be killed through either torso due to XL
I've tried the Bomb-Brand and am now working with this one. This thing requires a good and steady hand to make work properly. Not sure I like it yet or dislike it yet. I will have to check back later. Interesting build though.
I was considering something similar, but keeping an XL engine with more speed, ammo, and cooling. I'm wondering if anyone has tried something like this, before I invest in the new XL engine? http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=81&l=111370beb5d2bf9a585f905010e0b8301791fcca
@Martel66: I'd say downgrade the XL300 to a XL285 for some more armour. (In term of numbers +54 armour and -3.8kph)
I went ahead and built the design. The extra armor I'd get with the slower engine would only help my legs as its already maxed above the waist. In the drops I've done so far, my legs aren't taking many hits. Also the XL300 gets me another double heat sink in the engine, saving me 3 slots. However I am starting to suspect that I have too much cooling as heat never seems to be an issue. I might drop a heat sink and add another medium laser or two.
Let me know how you are finding the XL engine and whether or not you are getting RT/LT killed or not. During testing of this build I did 10 drops with a STD and 10 drops with an XL then I took the times I was killed in each match (or if I was killed at all) and cross referenced them. A STD increased my mech survivability by about 30% and on matches I DID get killed it increased the duration of time in the match by almost 3.5 minutes.
I'm using the XL version of this and it is insanely fun! I always laugh as I am unloading the double UACs!
I am still using the xl engine that it comes with but other than that I'm using the same set as Grimm...granted I copied it lol...and I just love watching parts fall off of other mechs . I also upped the armor ...I only "died" twice in 20 matches ....love this set up . Plus I haven't overheated yet ...nice
Based upon Martel's loadout I put together an alternate configuration using the XL engine. So far the results are pretty good.
I run 6 med lasers and an xl280. This mech has become my Muramets replacement "Ran it for days" -Mech Jocks Magazine
