*PLEASE! SOMEONE TAG THIS WITH THE TITLE MACH BAY SALE! SO EVERYONE CAN STOCK UP ON MECH BAY!!!!* Seriously, I don't care much about the hero sale, but the mech bay sale is a must have, is getting MC to stock up on them. I mean, it is something you would DEFINITELY use, right?
I bought 15 mech bays Only one on the list that I don't already have (or don't want) is the Misery. I wish they had the Ember.
I picked up 17 mechbays. The best heros in order: Dragon Slayer Ember Misery the misery is the only hero I have, and since the DS and Ember were missed this time, they might be 50% off in the next sale
MACH BAY SALE! I see it this way, if PGI want people to buy MC Hero, or buy cbills varients with MC (for those who would do such a thing), either of these activities would require people to have mechbays! As such, a mechbay sale is a good thing, they attract people to get more mechs. Either that or they should start selling heros with mechbays attached (actually good idea). For the Hero sale I see it this way. In a way MWO has been around a couple years already, so many players already have a a few chances in the gaming time to pick up the Heros in oen sale or another. The way they do it is to attract many players to collect the Hero they don't have. Well, it is useful for newer players too I guess. As for good heros, IM comes to mind, then it would be HM, Misery and (not on sale) DS, ember. Firebrand is nice, but when it comes to jager those cbills chassis using body mounted PPC is acceptable too at sniper range, just not as good. Protector is good in its own way, at least I have fun with it. Pighead is nice also, if you want energy build, although now you can sort of do many of the builds with that cbills BNC. Grid-Iron is good with the limited edition bobblehead! There are a few unique builds, but most of the gppd builds are shared with a couple of the cbills variants.
I'll be honest, as much as I like 'Mechbays, I can't see myself getting any more until I see more 'Mechs that I want. (Okay, so maybe one or two 'Mech bays to repurchase the JR7-K, JM6-S, and possibly pick up the Jester when his sale comes.) Otherwise, I have the 'Mechs I want. None of the other 'Mechs in game appeal to me, and the upcoming Vindicator isn't triggering my must-have button. Neither are the Clans. Except, possibly, the one we've already seen. But I'm *really* eyeballing that Jester.
None of the hero mechs are worth purchasing. Why? Because the game is lacking end game content, constantly behind schedule, with piss-poor game mechanics that ensure perpetual imbalance. Oh, and the companies behind the product are unprofessional idiots who deserve to be unemployed in the game industry, or at the least, don't deserve your pocket money. But I'm sure you wanted specific reasons related to hero mechs. Ok. Well, most hero mechs are awful by design; those that aren't, are buffed to be slightly imba for a patch cycle or too in order to make more money by people who read into meta trends but are not confident enough in their skills behind a regular mech... of course these mechs are eventually nerfed. Regarding the non-meta hero mechs, well, they are quite obviously uniquely painted shit variants of other mechs. Essentially what I am saying is, hero mechs = cash grab. Of course, all opinions, even well constructed ones from experienced qualified people such as myself, should be taken with a grain of salt. If a grain of salt is not available, instead substitute the schill shamelessly plugging their own product earlier in this thread.
I suggest spending your MC of the season on the mechbays first, Hero Mech are fun, but all of them are always on sale one time or another in rotation, you will see them on sale time and again, if you wait a bit. *GREAT ONES TO HAVE, esp IM: Apr 13 Heavy Metal HGN-HM (Poptart Deluxe, Cheese it all the way) Apr 19 Misery STK-M (only stalker ballistic, and quite useful really) Apr 20 Ilya Muromets CTF-IM (GREAT 3x Ballistic mech) *Nice Useful Ones, if you have random cash to spare and really like them. Apr 11 The Boar's Head AS7-BH Apr 16 Jester CPLT-J Apr 21 Protector ON1-P
Seeing the Ilya sale makes me happy. Not because of the mech since I have it already, but because of the date combined with my liking for r/montageparodies. 420swagmoney blazeit4ilya
I bought the Death's Knell for one reason. So that way nobody could ever say I paid to win, quite the opposite. It was worth it; fuckin hilarious mech. Buy something like that. Only buy shit in this game for the lulz, cuz shit game is lulz... get it.
I already have the several Heroes. I mainly use the Ilya and Ember if I'm grinding. In my opinion, those are the only two Heroes worth the money. The Firebrand has it's place if you're a Jager fan, and, I gave PGI my money for it last time it went on sale. However, the Ember and Ilya are (in my opinion) the only really unique Heroes out there. Most Heroes have very similar variants that can do a highly comparable job for In-game currency. The Ember isn't on sale (thank god, that thing SHREDS! I don't want to see the battlefield over-run with $-happy kids with MGs. That'll ruin my day quick! ) However, I might just pick up a Golden Boy. I've always loved the KTO and the GB has such an awesome paint job. I may just pick it up for the nostalgia and the bitchin' decals.
I picked up an X5 before I realized that the 3M would be the better investment (live and learn), however I can say that it can be a pretty powerful mech even without the ECM. I use a 2xERPPC build in it and have broken 1k damage several times. I will say that a lot of hero mechs that I see generally aren't ones I fear, especially in that X5. YLW's right arm goes down way too easy to be a threat for long if you see it first, and a stock YLW is just too slow until it gets a new engine. My X5, CDA-3M, and Jenner F all tear that one apart. Boar's Head suffers the same way, since the arms are the easiest parts to isolate. Protector seems to be a bit ineffective as well, or maybe that's just the Protector pilots I've been running into. Embers though...god I hate when I see that pop up on my target...
The Heavy Metal, and Highlanders in general, are terrible poptarts now. Their JJ nerf was stupid bad, and at 2 tons per jet you cannot easily modify the build to just add more jump jets like a Victor. I still drive my Highlanders and I can tell you with confidence one jump jet will barely clear the boxes in the water on forest colony. Multiple jump jets will get you up higher, but the thrust is so slow you will spend A LOT of time slowly climbing into the air, which makes you a nice target. That being said the Highlander isn't terrible, you just cannot poptart with it anymore, and I almost suggest to just dump the JJs all together and save the tonnage. The chances of there ever being a Highlander burial are buried themselves.
I'm not exactly a Mechspecs Veteran... but I'll toss in my two cents. I am strongly in favor of buying mechbays if you can. I don't have too much invested in this game (yet), but I do know that I will always want to grab more mechs. I bought 3 more for now, as I try and decide on my next chasis, but I may buy another MC pack to load up on some more. In terms of Heroes, I really don't have much advice there. My only hero mech is the Kintaro-Golden Boy, and I really only bought that because I: a) Had MC/Cash lying around and b) Am proud of my own Japanese Heritage, and wanted to earn extra c-bills while grinding xp for the Kintaros The Kintaro (GB) doesn't get a lot of love, especially with all the other new 55 ton mediums out there, but I enjoy it. If you are interested in the "nostalgia" or "fun" or "suck it, I don't buy pay to win mechs" go for it! I enjoy running it as a brawler, and it does well enough considering the state of SRMs. You can also turn it into a fun medium missile boat. All in all, buy whatever you think you'll enjoy, and make sure it's something you can promise yourself you'll play in, so you can earn those C-Bills instead of having a hero mech gather virtual dust in your virtual (30%off) mechbay.
