yeah it's a good point What's your guys' various takes on the Wolverines as a chassis? I rarely see them.
I'm with Durandal here. Bought me a Stalker-4N: I got 6 LLs on it with a STD-275 engine, and 21 DHS. Gonna burn through some baddies!
Oh, and I did consider Wolverines, and Dragons as well. But both 'Mechs are really focused on that one Right Arm, which is what I hate about them in general. And I always say not to buy a Chassis purely because of quirks, so . . . I'll hold off on them for now. Besides, I'm in the same boat as others in that I need to save my C-Bills for King Crabs (and maybe Mad-Dogs).
I got the Wolverines, now my next mechs will be King Crabs (I have right 3 mechbays left). I was considering thunderbolts and dragons too, but while wolverines are kind of rare and probably will be left alone for a bit more, tdrs are pure meta, so I guess the first quirk who is gonna be changed is the ERPPC one. As for dragons, I'd use only the AC5 one after mastery. The mech that I was overlooking actually impressed me, those SRM and ML quirks are quite good on the 7K, it won't replace the SHD 2K on competitive matches, but since I drop a lot solo it might be a great replacement there (XL340 is too big tho since you have to buff the arm, is there a cbills mech that comes with the xl320 ? ). My first games with each of the Wolvies : PS : had to decline mechspecs group invite because tomorrow I have to work, just got my 2x EXP.
Used the sale to re-buy the Stalker 4N, which I used for stock tournaments 2 years ago. I also bought Zirkon, as this allows me to create some nice FRR camos in combination with the Alpine I already own (and which is part of the Dudesclub's default color sheme).
3M, which is also the best mech of that chassis, and great to own I already picked up the STK-4N, and I'm just a few hundred thousand cbills away from a STK-5M purchase, but none of my Stalkers (Misery included) is upgraded with DHS yet, so I won't be playing them right away. I'll probably delve into cbill farming further to try and pick up the two Wolverines on sale, since the 6K is not at a discount right now, just to save cbills for later. After that, it's MOAR CBILLS FARMING to get ready for MDDs on the 20th.
Even if/when they do un-quirk it a bit, I don't think they'll take them back that far that it wouldn't be playable any more.
So far this has been a profitable weekend...I'm ONLY playing on my Prime/Hero mechs to get as many cbills as I can, in addition to the STK-4N and 5M, I picked up the WVR-7k, and I'm only 1 mil away from the 6R. I'm torn after that...I could fill out my Thunderbolt deck (I got the free 9S phoenix mech before and never did anything with it), buy 3 cheapass Locusts, or start saving for MDDs. Since I haven't outfit any of my new mechs to save on cbills for purchases, I got a way to go before I can use them anyway...also need to get the WVR-6K, but that's not on sale right now, so I'll probably ignore it for a bit. What I wouldn't give for another mechbay sale, now that I have things I want to put in those bays hehe
So I went crazy and decided to pick up a trio of Awesomes, mostly to try out the quirked PPC/ER-PPCs, but I also wanted another XL320 engine that came with the 9M. Not really sure why I thought this was a good idea since I am rubbish with PPCs, but they are kinda fun to derp around in. Probably should have just used the money on weapon modules, though.
I am saving up for c-bill crabs, but I am missing the JM6-DD from my jager collection. Is the DD worth picking up or is it mostly redundant with the others?
It's actually kinda the best of them all (though I'll always have a soft spot for the A). The Jagger-DD has the most versatility, that is, if you like MGs. You can do 2 LB/AC10s with 4 MGs and 2 MLasers. Or you can do 3 AC5s with 3 MGs and 2 MLasers. Or you can do 3x (U)AC5s with 2 MLasers, same as the S. Or 4 AC2s, same as the S. Or 2 AC20s, same as the S and A. Point is, the DD does pretty much everything the S does, only better, so long as you didn't REALLY want those other 2 Energy Hardpoints (and who does?). Quirks are obviously something to consider, and in that regard, the S has more general ones. But I personally say never to buy (or not buy) a 'Mech based only on quirks, so . . . in my opinion, the DD is DEFINITELY worth it.
Yeah, DD and S are the two best. If the A had an SRM quirk instead of LRM I'd like it more, though close range Jagers are rather iffy. And with SRM spread/hitreg issues, you have to be very close to make effective use of them.
Right on both accounts there, Sai. I absolutely HATE that they gave the A variant LRM and AC2 quirks . . . it's what the stock build has for weapons, and it's just pointless for any good build. LRMs are a waste on a Jagger, and you can only do 2 Ballistics on the A, so you can't even do a proper AC2-boat. And yeah, close-range brawling in a Jagger is iffy for sure, considering how fragile they are. But the high-mounts on them are beautiful for shooting over other objects (and 'Mechs) around you. Still, though the Jagger-A has a soft spot in my heart simply because I love an AC20+SRM brawler, I've switched that preference over to the Protector, which does pretty much the same build as my Jagger-A used to fit, except that the Protector has a STD engine, slightly less speed, more armor, and better hit-boxes.
I bought, basic'd and then sold the Dragons that I needed to elite the 1N. I didn't really love playing them so no point in letting them hang round and take up a mechbay. Then picked up both of the sale Wolverines. Have had games similar to FX8230's. Even unbasic'd they seem like pretty effective chasses. You do have to build to the quirks though. The 6k with the two ballistics in the right arm plays like a more nimble Dragon-1N and the 6R is nice little SRM/pulse laser boat (I may have the chassis numbers wrong). They seem to be a little harder to hit that centurians or hunchbacks or maybe I've just gotten a little better at avoiding damage. The real revelation this weekend has been how effective the King Crab is at C-bill farming. Between ripping mechs apart with 4 AC-5's or 4 UAC-5's (with macro) and selling a couple of unneeded engines (how many STD-255's do you need) I've been able to pump out ~20M Cbills. Now to save the pennies for the Cbill King Crabs. No date on that yet as far as I've heard.
Wolvies are great, I had a 1200 damage game I posted in the 1000+ club (and LPL damage is kind of pinpoint too, lots of comp destructions), and already 2x 7 kills on SRM one just a bit away from 1000 damage (posted 1 in most kills). The SRM wolvie is better then the SHD 2K in solo drops, much more range, you can feel it over having and XL340 instead (2K can strip both arms). Weapon mounts are still pretty high. Plus the 7JJ, 1MLas, 3SRM6+A and XL340 build is just too fun, poptarting SRM ftw The funny this is I got them for Dakka one, and I'm liking the others more, should have basiced and sold other dragons too, now I'm out of premium While it's a nice mech, it would really need the armor quirks the dragon much has, more then the 10% advantage the dragon has in cooldown, after all it's a substained dps mech, you need to be facing the enemy to do damage. Maybe removing the missile quirks no1 is going to use on them, and impoving the armor a bit.
Here's what I got this weekend: Locust 1E Firestarter S Hunchbacks 4G 4H 4J 4P 4SP Catapult K2 Jagermech DD Awesome 8V Banshees 3E and 3S
