I have played the test server since it opened today. The clan 'Mechs are obscene amounts of fun, and can pack a punch without being too overpowered. All the 'Mechs, Direwolf included, are pretty well balanced despite the incredible amounts of weaponry the can bring to bear on their enemy. However, as I say this I am playing with a Direwolf with a fifty (50!) point alpha, plus a UAC/5 as a backup with plenty of ammo. hear: Lord have mercy on me if they nerf my baby
Well, the direwolf sure is powerful, but it is easy to see the quirks. Those ammo are not nearly as much as you would think, and they run out pretty quickly. You are bound to totally disintegrate the target you can sneak up close on, but at long range, the spread out damage is working against you and your ammo size would be your enemy.
The Dire Wolf is without a doubt the mech with the highest risk of unbalanced builds. A pal of mine wrecked with a tripple ultra AC20 build, it was roughly like seeing a Grand Ilya chugging away. He achieved his highest damage and killscores ever. Me? I've got my Mad Cat down pat. First match? 800 damage using tripple streak sixes. Fourth match with the unchanged prime version? 700. Over 6 matches, averaged 600 damage with the Mad Cat. I took my IS Jester out for a comparison spin (2xPPC, 4xMLAS, 2xAMS), we lost but I dealt 750 damage. IS mechs are still viable though Clans feel more powerful.
I think it's too early to tell about how powerful clan mechs are. Last night I felt most of people didn't know what to do. Give them few weeks to experiment and get used to their mech (for example I saw most Nova laser boat taking no advantage at all of their obscene range). In the mean time:
Well interesting dynamic is that most of the fighting was at point blank range and quite organised due to the similar clan mech speeds. If the side had sense they closed fast in on the inner sphere mechs and then raped them presuming people bothered to spend all those free gxp and had refit from stock.... A horrifying number hadn't. So yes Epikt you were picking on trial mechs/new players you bully!
Had an all around horrible night of MWO on Part 2. Just wasn't my night... Hopefully Tuesday will be a good release day, I'm looking forward to the min/max and theory crafting with you fine gents.
Not just you Solahma... I really struggled to get used to some of the clan mechs and ended up mixing in a lot of IS ones.
Just a little something I was playing with in testing grounds last night. (Yes, I know I should have grouped all the UAC2s to both UAC20 groups and not wasted DPS ) ef7hiZDbX-4 Had an insane brawl match with it on HPG in the last 5min when everyone on both teams knew the servers were going down, so we threw ourselves into theta en masse. Definitely in my top 5 most fun matches ever played. Everybody got dropped the second after the victory music played but before the score screen came up. If I were guessing, I'd say 5+ kills 700ish damage wouldn't be a bad ballpark.
That was a lot of ammo/fire to take down a stationary commando ... And then the message which usually makes your heart drop in a fight "ultra autocannon ammo depleted".
The sheer ton of lrm flooding last night was kind of annoying. I hope people change their loadouts or we get to play hide behind one or two big things that can block lrms all game. I didn't find this to be the case nearly as much during the first PTS test. Maybe with it being on a Sunday, a lot more people were playing the stock loadout mechs.
Yeah, with that obscene amount of gxp and free cbills you can get *ANY* non-hero IS mech and tool it up the yingyang. So running a stock on the test server is just nothing but lazy. As for lrm, that is one thing IS is doing better than Clan. I am still wishing for MRM.
consider that smurfy did not have the clann mech up even now...(seeing the IS sign I think he has worked on it though) I suspect the smurfy posts would be buggy as hell. Currently using outreach http://outreachnews.net/mechlab# Still think smurfy maybe better though, in the long run.
I didn't order any Clan Tech until last night, so, I wasn't able to play them on the PTS, but, I was able to observe and get a feel for the incoming invasion. I must say, it really is the change I feel we needed. The feel of battle is just SO much different with Clan Tech introduced. The screen shake alone from Autocannons and LRMs are TERRIFYING, not to mention the range on most weapons. Playing IS mechs felt very, very difficult. However, that is how it should be. The Clan mechs WERE better. I would love to see some IS Mech Quicks added (reduction of Ghost Heat groupings, further agility quicks for mediums, armor increase for lights, ect) All around, the clans are intimidating. However, I am very excited for the change of pace and learning the new combat styles we much use to battle this incoming Tech.
Yeah that was my loadout for PTS 1. Not the best with gauss though but it was the only pinpoint damage I could theorycraft that was workable.
