The problem with this event...well, I had a "couple" posts on Twitter about it yesterday... That was all without talking about the problems at having groups facing PUGs. Which, it seems, is exactly what decided the event in the end. It would've been very nice if there had been a win/loss tracking that took the entire event into account, not just the last few hours of matches...
It would have also been nice if the drastic IS numbers advantage would have been counted in any way, shape, or form.
I like the game, but refused to take it seriously, got my 50 points, only cursed someone out maybe...5 times got stressed early on, but realized pretty quick 500 damage was all it took, so just had fun. I think what I saw after day two were players doing real well first mech, then just suiciding the 2nd, 3rd, 4th mech, and disconnecting. These tournaments.. make no mistake, I like free stuff. but these tournaments are part of some weird beta twisted research...like offering my kid candy to see if he'll brush his teeth. Giving rewards hoping enough play CW (or pugs) or IS vs. Clan or whatever it has been over the last few months ^ that. they run this thing getting hundreds more to play CW than before to try and get an idea of who what where...but there were 3/4 times as many IS players, and twice that many who didn't play. Pugs were littered with imbeciles, and a smattering of semi and skilled players...SO, the event wasn't clear enough, or too scary to lure noobs in. There were some- they were running trial mechs. Whole drop decks of trial mechs...how on earth could you want to keep the game on your PC after a few matches like that? broke back pugs, broke back CW [/rant]
Oh, p.s. I checked the CW population over the last hour. I'm guessing its going to pretty empty for a while. I certainly got my fill, LOL
If it was 12 IS vs 10 Clanners would we have seen have seen a drastic decrease in wait times for the IS? Perhaps some inspiration can be taken from else where. Warthunder for example balances tanks and planes differently depending on the game mode you are playing. Make Clan and IS mechs equal in solo/group play. But change the numbers for CW, where lore and realism come into play a little more.
It would essentially mean that weapons could have slightly different properties such as heat, burn time, damage etc. Which could lead to a variation in builds between solo and CW creating more work for the player, or requiring more investment from the player in the form of duplicated mechs for ease of transition between solo and CW.
I got my Banshee after 40 battles with 15 hours left of the event so no more games after that. CW was/is fun but 40 games was way to much, and they planed to have us do it in a weekend. Total with 40 battles i got avg 319.7 min 114 max 497 matchscore about 10 of the battles where single/pug drops. Might have some recordings but not much with the massive wait times between battles i ran mostly in fullscreen window so i could do other stuff and then shadowplay wont record.
Yeah, this indeed was a massive grind. Several guys I talked to afterwards were burned out not only of CW, but of MW:O as well and probably won't be back for at least 1 or 2 weeks.
One thing i really like thou is that the 80 point requirement completely removed the no fight gen rushes. Think i had 1 battle where the enemy tried that but failed and 1 or 2 comp teams that cleared all the gens in the first wave but then just fought it out in the 2-3rd wave.
Hmmm....didn't think of that..but yes. I think I only recall seeing one..maybe two of those insane IS light rushes. and yes, burned out..explains it, tried to play last night (kids at the X's for a few days-typically I sneak in more battles) I couldn't break 300 damage, no kills, and got caught by lights not paying attention to lights in that new warhawk. got pissed and watched reruns of My Name is Earl on netflix..now THATS some rewarding shit. I feel way better than trailer trash now! p.s. glad it over, hopefully pugs will repopulate with better players but seems like CW is back to the tiny numbers again, I'm afraid to try and drop thinking its going to be handful of pugs against 8-12 mans again
Yeah, I had one match against a 10-man where they came in with 8 Timberwolves and 4 Hellbringers, and just rolled over all 3 generators in a single push. They probably could have taken Omega during that wave or the next, but they backed off and had a good ol' fashioned slugfest next to the gates. They still crushed us like 48-30 or so, but it was at least somewhat fun for everyone. I can't actually think of any match where the enemy actually made a strong push for Omega when they had the upper hand. I thought at the time that we were just defending decently, but looking back on it, the bigger teams probably made a conscious decision to try to win on kill instead.
We had one knife edge match where we had 4 of us (1 was dc so really 3) versus 3 of them with the timer running out where we were so battered it was scary and they just had two lights and a scarecrow. We took down omega and literally hid behind it and managed to kill their scr and a mist lynx for one of us. Won as the last light came in. That was counter attack of course when usually thr fate of omega is irrelevant! Only one other match in 49 was close.
Even at about 10 solo drops during this even i had fun in most battles, there where a handful of battles that where less enjoyable but that was mostly due to grouping up with random people, some crybabys (1 or 2 for the whole week) but i realized what a luxury it is to be in a smaller group where people understand PUSH TO TALK. I remember a Counter on Hellbore that where really close we pushed in killed about 8-9 of theirs and damaging a few more, before they wiped our 12. 2nd wave we did the same this time push in get the upper hand in kills then getting wiped ending up in something like 20 kills then they wiped our remainder mechs and got the upper hand again. 3rd was a the same we pushed in to the hill close to gamma wiped there first line, then while there remaining mechs backed of to regroup we went for Omega (why waste heat by being at 0%?) after it was dead someone got the ide of just pulling out while we where ahead so we started moving towards the gate, that was just as they started attacking us. We kept moving and fired on the move, passing the gate we had a lead of 4-5 kills but most of our where cored, we formed a fireline just outside the gate around the bend and killed them 1 by 1 as they where rushing out. By the time they actually formed up a group push we got some reinforcement so we held our ground ended up winning the battle.
Sadly, there's always some idiots. If it makes you feel better, I never once DC'd, and gave it my all in every mech, every time...even when it was a lost cause from the first push. What can I say, I want to win. Sadly, I know that one all too well...I'm taking a few days off from the game (although I did log in to equip some of my new mechs before I stream this weekend), and many others are doing the same. However, I've burned out periodically from MWO before, and it's why I keep several other games on standby at all times, so I've just been playing other titles while my MWO battery recharged. That helps quite a bit...and it means I get some time in on Elite Dangerous or GTA5...or my gameboy emulator, as has been the case this week
Winning isn't everything, but maximum performance is. Truth is, I do look at my stats and use those as my value system. I'm competitive, and dont like loosing. I cringe when some nit apologizes, in team chat, before the match starts for his new "build". Who among us doesn't hit the practice map to test something? I'm not talking, dam, thats a good looking build and run it, I'm talking...hey, has anyone ever put 8 large lasers on a mech type. yeah, I took 3 month break last summer. Sadly all but a couple from the original dozen or so who started have taken permanent vacations- they wanted to like the game, but problems after problems we're all familiar with. HELL I Just got a customer reply 32 days late. (my drop deck was NOT saving, I fixed it with some suggestion on some forum) sent march 30, their reply dated may 1...
Battle of Tukkayyid statistics: http://mwomercs.com/news/2015/05/1194-battle-tukayyid-statistics example:
That statistics page naturally left out the one metric I was interested in: who won the most matches. Clan had more of their mechs destroyed (400 more exactly), so it's possible that the IS won more total. However, that points to my previous complaint, that it didn't matter since only the final matches really meant anything...
Oddly enough, the last time I did that, I was in my Oxide with 4 SRM2's for a unit challenge we were doing for fun. Despite my apology...I did over 800 damage and 6 kills lol. Guess no apology needed
