Favorite weapons

What's your favorite weapon, Mechspecs?

I don't mean most used or most damage dealt. I mean that weapon that you buy a 'mech specifically to mount this weapon.

Mine? PPC. Easy peasy. Any flavor but I prefer the clan version for that sweet, sweet splash damage.

So what about you?

 

(ER) Large Laser. Not to big or heavy, good range, good damage. Just an all-around good weapon.

 

UAC5 if you have at least two. One is just too unreliable, but two will give you performance on par with two AC5's at least. Of course, you can be unlucky but more often than not they pour out more damage AC5's.

I love the LBX10 too, but you can put dual AC5's or UAC5's on so many more mechs.

 

Different philosophy for me, I have found that some mechs have a preferred build where some weapons excel.

I don't really buy mechs for a possible weapons loadout, I'm more into getting near all mechs and trying all builds to learn as many facets as possible.

All that said, I do enjoy a tripple AC5 Ilya build a lot. Under the clans, a Stormcrow with LLAS and MLAS is likely my favourite.

I'm sad to realise I don't have a favourite weapon anymore since the AC/2 has been butchered (rant, rant, rant, I know but this gun was fabulous).
I started to play with clan UAC/5 on the KitFox and it's the closest I came to the feeling I had with the old AC/2 - at least I get some dakka dakka.

Otherwise, the most reliable, balanced and yet powerful weapon is obviously the MLas.

I wanted sepcificaly the Misery for that AC20 + 3 LL Build (and because i like Metallica a lot).

 

Weirdly.... LPL .... favourite not most effective remember.

Luckily the cLPL linked to cDHS is great.

 

IS LRMS > Clan LRMS. I like LRMS. Also IS AC20, I like them too. Infact I like the feel of the IS weapons much more than the clans. But I like piloting clan mechs.

I will also like the King Crab. It will have AC20s and LRMS.

This is such a difficult question for me. I'm usually in a light mech which colors my perspective a certain way. But I also have a lot of fun in my K2 and a couple other heavies.

I've said it before but the straight up Medium Laser has got to be one of, if not THE, best weapons in the game. The power-per-ton simply can't be ignored.

But I also like the wubs of the Large Pulse Laser, the blast of an LBX10, and the face-hugging BOOM of SRMs. That pretty much explains why I don't like assaults. All the large weapons I enjoy are close range. No way I'm going to trudge along with the turtles in a knife fighter.

 

Years ago newb tabletop Lokesh asks someone, "What's a PPC?" and was told, "It's a gun that shoots lightning."

Done and done.

 

The Clan ERPPC is fun. Normal PPC and ERPPC, not so much.
Generally speaking, i like all ACs but AC5 (even though i use it most because my Firebrand has a pair of them). Ultras... the Clan ones are fun. LB-Xes are fun but not really effective weapons, only crit-seekers, indeed i keep my Summoner's LB-X ammo at one ton because that's more than enough for crit-seeking.
The Clan LRMs are fun, they feel nice due to their streaming launch and the sound.
And of course, the good old medium (pulse) laser.

 

BFG all the way. There are some specific Mechs in my Garage which definitely must run the BFG unless they have the HPs and Weight for Double/Multiple ACs.

What comes into my mind: Blackjack, Treb, YLW, Jager, Catapult K2, Cataphract 1X, Orion, Victor, Highlander, Misery, Atlas DDC and also the Banshee.

What i love even more atm? A combo of BFG and SRMs all for one Mission: Surprise Attack on careless LRM Boats and Metapops. Sooo much fun!

 

Hmmm... here's an interesting thing about BFG vs. AC5s.

I had my share of unit internal duels BJ vs BJ. I got bored of the AC20 BJ, because soon after I launched with it... anybody else had it. I tend not to drive what everybody else does.
So my standard duellant has 2AC5 and 3ML.

Till now this BJ has defeated 6 other BJ's armed with an AC20 and is uncontested....

Depends on how it is used I suppose. It has been a while since I had the issue but I know that back in the day part of the reason dual guass and dual AC 20 mechs pissed me off so much is because they were ran in groups. You'd see lances of 2-4 of them and you'd know they were coordinating targets for insane alpha strikes.

Not sure why people like that sort of thing to be honest. Yeah it is effective. But so is taking a shotgun and shooting fish in a barrel. Where's the sport?

 

Being a kid growing up and playing Battletech in my trusty Marauder the PPC was my weapon of choice!!!! I mean, as mentioned above, who wouldn't want to throw a lightning bolt at their enemies?!?!?! AmIRightGuys?

In MWO? I'm a fan of the ERLLas. When I actively played, and I was still considered half competent, I could climb in my Super Chicken and perform surgery with a pair of ERLLas!

 

You know, to this day I still haven't piloted a Raven in the live client? If I keep MWO installed after this week I'll have to buy one.

 

the PPC was my favorite weapon in MW2 (when it was a super slow massive destructive blue electro Ball and the A.I. was stupid enough to not avoid it when i shot several Balls toward them in super far distance.)
